I find it an improvement over Up. Married life was portrayed too ideal in that film. They've been together for so many years and they never had an argument or a disagreement? Come on. It would had been much better if they had shown them having a spat at some point and how they managed to get through it and move on afterwards. That would had given an interesting insight on how relationships actually work.

I'm pretty sure there are couples that rarely fight. Also, I think their life was far from ideal. I've never thought of Up portraying married life as ideal. The way they kept procrastinating their dreams was pretty damn depressing. Especially when she died.

They're announcing the BAFTA winners at the moment and Best Animated Feature went to:

Brave. Keep in mind Wreck-It Ralph didn't open in the UK until after the eligibility period. Still, I'm surprised Frankenweenie didn't win. But Brave is set in Scotland, so maybe it got bonus points for that. I'm still predicting Wreck-It Ralph to win the Oscar, but Brave's chances went up today.

I agree with that gif. It's pretty much what i think too. Brave is an okay films but there are others such as Wreck It Ralph that are much better films and Brave hardly deserves these awards. Especially with Brenda Chapman not getting invited to the Golden Globes which makes me ticked off

It's a good thing the BAFTA's are not a precursor to the Oscars. Emanuele Riva winning best actress was the biggest surprise to me. I figured since she already won a BAFTA for Hiroshima Mon Amour, I'd figure they'd skip her this time. It was kind of awkward because Chastain and JLaw were kind of ready to get up and Riva wasn't there.

Good show though.

Don't think WIR was eligible, it not being released in Britain until 2013.

Thaaaat is certainly very subjective. I think most here will tell you that Frankenweenie was a better film and Paranorman was a more impressive filmmaking accomplishment. While I personally like Brave best of the three, I would bet against it winning anything.

Just going by my own opinion here. All of us around here pretty much do.
Brave has the Pixar name behind it and the backlash has made it easy to forget that it did get good reviews. Won't be surprised at it winning any award including the Oscars after that GG win.

Pfft. No, it wasn't. And the critics agree with that. ParaNorman and Frankenweenie have a higher score than Brave both on Rotten Tomatoes and on Metacritic.

Using critical reception to back you up when it's convenient, eh? I am sure that a lot of your opinions differ significantly from the critics. You can't have it both ways.

BAFTA's and Golden Globes are NOT a precursor to the Oscars. Look no further than the film critics awards, the Annie's and the Producers Guild. Who've all overwhelmingly voted in favor of two films:

Paranorman and Wreck-It Ralph. With Frankenweenie as the underdog.

Brave and Pirates: Band of Misfits are NOT winning. I will eat my shoes if one of them does.

I don't have it both ways. Even if I happen to like a film that was not critically acclaimed, I can certainly recognize its flaws and understand that my taste is subjective since I have no professional knowledge on the subject. I don't go on about pretending that I know better and insisting that the critics were wrong.

You are using the Annie's as a reliable indicator? Didn't we complain quite a bit when they gave previous awards to Dreamworks films which didn't end up winning at the Oscars with accusations that they had been bought?

You are putting too much stock in what the critics say. The majority of them are not noted for any particular insight or analytic ability. A good portion of the reviewers on RT aren't even genuine critics at all. Even the Top Critics aren't that professional, the Guardian for instance writes reviews about 200 words long with absolutely no insight.

No need to be afraid of our own opinions, it's just movies. We don't have to submit to their authority on something so subjective.

Don't think I am anti-critic though. I still favor their opinions over general internet reaction which tends to be fanboyish and hyperbolic.
