Rudy Matt, I hate to go off-topic and I really hate saying this, but really, do you realize how incredibly rude or condescending you sound in half your posts? $100 isn't exactly loose change to everyone. You don't know any of the members' financial situations, and even if you did, it's still in bad form to tell anyone how to spend their money.

And it's not just this thread. I mean, the past few days alone you've had remarks like "ignorant communist douchebags", "Get the hell off our board, you ignorant slanderous asshole", and the various "chimp (something)" towards Eisner (regardless of his business decisions, he's still human. Cheap name-calling is just beyond immature). Attitudes like that do little to keep the forums a friendly environment.

It makes me no less of a fan that I cannot afford your fancy gadgets. I'm more obsessive and devoted than at least 90% of D23 members, but I can't buy a membership. I drool over the WDCC statuettes, but the closest I've ever come to one is images on the Internet. I love Disney so much, and it hurts that I can't participate, or go to parks, or anything! You are just rubbing it in, Mr. McDuck, and I hope you and your piles of money are having fun buying Disney fandom, instead of simply coming into it by loving the films, and letting that be enough.
I try to be a kind person, but there are certain things I can't abide by, and trying to make someone feel bad for being lower-middle class is something I can't abide by. Ever wonder how many groceries you'll be able to afford for a family of four on one rather small paycheck, Rudy Matt? NO!? Didn't think so. If you did, you wouldn't be worried about affording every Blu-Ray players and Disney Park tickets. You'd be dreaming of the far-off day when you'll earn enough money on your own to afford them, and stop having to pay for your parents' mistakes.
Until you've walked a mile in my shoes, don't talk to me about this kind of thing. I know the features are badass, and you don't have to rub that in my face. My collection of Disney DVDs and Disneyana is small compared to most UD-ers. But my love for Disney is just as large. So, to get right to the point, in the kindest possible way: Zip your howling screamer.

To Margos, I sympathise and I agree with you 100%.
With Rudy Matt...just read what Escapay and Margos said.

As for me, I like watching dvds on my computer, not on a tv, so blu ray isnt even a possibility for me. And as I said in my previous post, DVD is far from dead, and blu ray is barely born. And there is NO REASON other than to force people to get blu ray players not to include the special features on the DVD.

I dont disagree that special features should come at a cost. If disney wants to do that, they can release a barebones dvds of snow white, and a higher priced edition with a second disc with bonus features. That would be more fair if you asked me.

3 1/2 years can hardly be considered "barely born" and some features actually CAN'T be contained on the DVD, Hyperion Studios notwithstanding. I don't think the ratatouille DVD would have supported a game in which you had to select the right recipes/ingredients and meet orders while keeping you're star rating up and with animation of linguini cooking it all at the same time. It's actually quite a bit challenging. The Car-finder game on the Cars BD is also pretty advanced, and Picture-in-picture commentaries always have something of worth.

That said, I don't care if you only buy DVDs. You're just not an extremely credible source for listing features.

Well, I would never expect for Disney or any other studio to put a feature on a dvd that would only work on a blu ray. That would be absurd.

But I seriously doubt that all the extra footage in the hyperion studios thing couldnt have been added to the DVD. As for the games...who cares?

And 3 1/2 years....well....dvd's came out in 1997, and the first platinum edition didnt come out till late 2001. Thats quite a gap to let the medium find it's audience.

THis is from wikipedia, about the history of dvds "mass retailer sales of DVD Video titles and players began in August 1997.[25] By June 2003, weekly DVD Video rentals began outnumbering weekly VHS cassette rentals"

IT TOOK 6 YEARS FOR THE FORMAT TO TAKE OVER. And dvds provided many more possibilities compared to VHS, than DVDs compared to blu rays.

Some of the people aren't coming here picking fights. The one literally asked about critical reception to "Snow White" and you immediately assumed that they of course meant to criticize the film as an anti-feminist picture. It's one thing if you were to complain to a person who came on and said "WALT DISNEY WAS OBVIOUSLY A RACIST. CROWS IN DUMBO!" but entirely another if someone wants to ask an unrelated question.

Anyhow, even if someone did want to come on and debate the possibility that Disney was racist, it still wouldn't be justified for you to call them "ignorant communist douchebags". Walt Disney wasn't some perfect human being to be held on a pedestal. He had flaws. I'm not saying he was racist or anti-feminist or whatever, but every time someone flies into a tizzy when someone asks about some sort of potential racism, it just makes both sides look ridiculous. I myself can't justify his extreme willingness to testify in front of the HUAC.

and Rudy....when someone does post an ignorant post about Disney is Racist/hates women/gay/etc....it doesn't help to add insult to the person....because basicly when they post those dumb posts they are playing with or fighting with fire......how do you put a fire out...not by adding to the fire with dirty language.....you get water or a fire extinguisher and thats how you put it out....though trust me when I read those ridiculous posts it makes me feel like they are crazy (to which they are) but....arguing with them or try to debate or prove them wrong is just going to be like running around in circles because at the end of the day they still will stick to their dumb conspiracies....

$100 is A LOT of money to me right now. I'm a poor college student, so every dime is a big deal. If it wasn't a lot of money to me, I'd probably get the last two Disney Treasures I'm missing.

To change the subject slightly, I'd like to say that while the Hyperion Studios tour on the BD does have a lot of great content in it, I personally found it somewhat of a chore to work through (even with the full-index - press down on the navigation bar). As normal for me, I found the galleries to be the best features, but somewhat illogical to access (if you do the full tour and don't use the index, but even then they're not collected together and require several remote key presses)

If you have the Platinum DVD I wouldn't say you are missing much - at the end of the day pretty much everything to say about creating Snow White was said on the old Platinum - the Hyperion Studios tour says much the same thing. What's nice about the new features though is there appears to be more content from the actual creators - even though they have passed on, there's still sound recordings and archival footage.

Its also nice to have the shorts in HD, but again, I'm betting some of the people here have the shorts already in some form or other.

Personally, I cannot recommend the Platinum Edition enough, and as I said before, now is the time to try and snag a second-hand copy at a reasonable price if you don't own it. Yes, it's different from the Blu-ray, but just as filling. Perhaps, if we're being honest with ourselves, more filling than the Blu-ray (but I admit, I haven't viewed 100% of the tour yet).

I just have a few things to say about the last page.

Whether one wants Blu-ray or not is a personal preference and one shouldn't feel like they have to get it to "keep up with the Jones" so to speak. DVD quality content is great so if one chooses not to go to Blu-ray they still have a quality product and shouldn't be made to feel otherwise. The Walt Disney Treasures ,for example, feel definitive to me. I can watch them and feel like I'm watching something of quality (both content and specs wise). With this Snow White DVD, with the film itself and its transfer, I don't feel like I'm losing anything. It's a great restoration and looks great to watch. I don't and shouldn't think of it as bad because it's not higher resolution. If one chooses to go to Blu-ray then great. Good for them. They shouldn't care if there are people who choose not to. It's not like we're blindly watching a crappy quality format for principle since DVD is high quality format.

and yes, I have been growing weary of Rudy Matt's inflammatory posts. I was actually about to say something in the 'Walt Disney...a racist!?!' thread about that.

That's all I have to say on that matter.


@On Topic: Yes, I also highly recommend the Platinum Edition of Snow White as well. I've recently got it and to me it was definitely worth getting.

I'm glad that my first "Snow white" dvd contains a "making of" featurerette, it's not on the present 2 disc release.
I think it's to much right now to try and purchase an old platinum edition, my guess is that these are up for reselling for a very expensive price. (resellers are not to shy to ask $ 80.00 or more for a copy)

The price for the Platinum seems to be dropping now as people think that they can off-load the Platinum and get a "better" new release. However, once people fully realise how poor the new DVD is, I expect prices to go back up.

If you're lucky, people will have off-loaded the Platinum to local used-DVD stores to get cash to put towards the new release.

It may be a bit more difficult to purchase it at such a price if you don't live in the USA. But indeed I haven't looked any further yet than Amazon.com. Any advise?
