Disney announced Planes: Fire and Rescue will be released on July 18, 2014. They must be pretty confident about Planes to not only schedule a theatrical release for the sequel, but put it smack-dab in July.

It seems this person was right about Planes 2 being released in 2014. I'm guessing then that Planes 3 will be released in 2015 also in theatres.

It sounds like this war between FOX/DWA is real and heating up as we speak.

I hope Disney/PIXAR aren't sacrificing quality all over the place. Because on that front FOX and Dreamworks have less to lose.

Yeah, good luck going up against X-Men: Days of Future Past... When the sequel flops, Planes 3 will be landing directly to home video in 2015.

It looks much closer to the spirit of Cars than Cars 2. That's a good thing.

In my opinion, the nostalgia in the original Cars was its greatest aspect. This looks to be the case with Planes so I suppose we've come to the moment where I think a DisneyToon film looks better than a PIXAR film.

Things are.... changing.

Disney is collaborating with American Airways (and with British Airways in the UK) to promote Planes. They've gone as far as to create a new character named Tripp and produce a Planes-themed commercial for American Airlines as well as a new trailer featuring the character.

I really dislike the stereotypical characters in this film... It's like they had poorly written, cliche characters, and then exaggerated them further. I think Monster's U suffered from something similar with their second tier characters as well.

Q: How will Planes, a Cars spinoff, fare overseas?

Dave Hollis: The Cars franchise has been very successful. And there has been a nice localization effort in 11 countries where the character Rochelle has been localized in terms of the flag on the plane and the color of the skin, so to speak.

Even though I can't understand a thing I'm really loving how much effort they're putting in the voice acting.

You need to watch this new short featuring Ishani voiced by Priyanka Chopra where she sings and dances Bollywood style!

That was fun! I guess we should've known they would reference Bollywood, especially since Ishani is voiced by an actual Bollywood actress

I love how the casting director in that clip says about four times 'over the last three years working with these actors'.

Classic Disney propaganda covering up the fact that they had the entire cast replaced mid-production.

Priyanka says, “From the first time that the team from Disney proposed that I sing Fly High, I was hugely excited. I love the song and believe that it is a great way to introduce audiences across the world to my character Ishani. The song captures the essence of who Ishani is — sassy and strong and on par with all the boys! It’s actually the first time that I have lent my voice to one of my films and this is very exciting for me! The response has been fabulous and I’m humbled and happy!”

Q: Tell us about your role in Disney's upcoming Planes.

Priyanka Chopra: Walt Disney is my favorite filmmaker in the whole world. They came to me with Planes three years ago -- even before I was signed to Interscope -- and I thought it was a really great idea. I loved Cars and I loved how they were going to extend that concept with Planes. My character Ishani is a pan-Asian champion from India and the romantic interest of the main lead Dusty (voiced by Dane Cook). It's a really great part and I gave her a desi (Indian) flavor. For me it was important to do that because I see a lot of Indian characters on television and in films in the west and they usually have over-exaggerated Indian accents. And it troubles me as an Indian who also spends time abroad, because that's not how we really talk. So while portraying the character, it didn't mean that I had to have an American accent, which I don't, but just talk the way we normally do in India. Giving an animation character life was a way of pushing boundaries for me as an actor. It was great just to be in a sound booth and say lines to give Ishani a personality.

Q: And you also get to sing?

Priyanka Chopra: Well that was a crazy idea they came up with. We were planning the trailers for all the characters and it was just a creative discussion to have a promotional song. So Ishani breaks into this Bollywood-style song to reply to a question. I thought that was super cute and she has this super funky attitude -- like, 'why should boys have all the fun?' That is so me.

Q: The Indian dubbed versions of Planes should offer interesting possibilities, don't you think?

Priyanka Chopra: That will be fun for sure. We haven't done that yet. It will end up as a whole new movie with a new approach.

Planes has been rated PG for "some mild action and rude humor."

Considering the Cars movies are rated G, I'm surprised Planes was given a PG. I wonder what makes the action more intense than in Cars 2, which had a lot of spy movie-esque action sequences and yet still managed a G.

Also, is this the first Disney Toon production to get higher than a G rating?

Well, that's surprising. I was expecting it to be G.

I would laugh my ass off if this movie gets better reviews than Cars 2.

New trailer, clip, and featurette. Also, Disney launched a new YouTube account dedicated to Planes called Racing Sports Network.
