Idiot post awful again, I suppose. Were the discs damaged inside? In which case you need to contact Best Buy.
If it's just the tin, there's this marvelous new device called a hammer...

Seriously, put the damaged part of the tin facedown on a counter or something that you won't damage. It has to be hard underneath, but make sure there's nothing that will scratch the surface of the tin. Get a washcloth or thin hand towel and put it on the side you're going to hammer. Tap gently with hammer all over the surface of the dent until it looks better.

Well I would hammer it out, but the dent goes from the embossed printing down through the middle of the Annette picture. It's a sever dent, and yes the idea of a hammer has occurred to me, but I think it would do more damage in the end. I have a few tins that are actually perfect, and most of mine have minor dents, but nothing like this.

Well, my Dr. Syn & Chronological Donald 4 should arrive tomorrow or Tuesday from Amazon. Of course, as with my luck, I see that Amazon has lowered the price of Donald from $24.99 to $19.99. Just my luck.

No question about it. I would send it back! There is no way I would accept a tin in that condition.

OK, is it just me or is there something seriously mental with the reds during "Donald in Mathmagicland"? They're virtually blinding!
The red chess pieces are just a solid block of red half the time. They lose all their detail!, The same when Donald is wearing the red shirt and when he is playing basketball. The reds are so overpowering and all the black lines just disappear!
Is this just me?
Something is wrong with "Working for Peanuts too". Again it's far too oversaturated yet also quite dull and it's obviously from the dull, grainy opening credits it's not been restored. What's more, the clips used in Leonard's intro don't match the actual short itself. The clips used in his intro, are much brighter and natural looking. So it looks like WFP was restored given the clips in the intro, but the wrong version was used for the short itself.

I noticed that on Working for Peanuts as well and I mentioned it earlier in the Bee on Guard thread. It loooks like it didn't get a restoration. It's way too bright.

Well it obviously was restored, given the much better looking clips in the into, also the framing of the clips in the intro is even so slightly different.
Also I'm kind of wishing that the 4:3 composites of the cinemascope cartoons had been inclued too. Anyone else think things are skirting too close to the top of the frame in "Bearly Asleep"?

So I have long since put Donald 4 on my wish list from Amazon for Christmas when I receive the news that the Dr. Syn DVDs there are now out of stock thanks to its extremely low print count and that could Donald 4 be far behind. That's one of the things I most would like for Christmas. And if it gets out of stock too soon, what will I do?

What kind of television are you watching this on? The Cinemascope cartoons are Anamorphic Widescreen encoded and look just fine to me. Don't understand what you mean about things getting to close to the top of the frame - it is a cartoon, and it was probably drawn that way. Why would you want a 4:3 of a 16x9 picture anyway?

1. Kick yourself for not buying it sooner.
2. Check brick-and-mortar stores in the area and see if they still have copies.
3. Order it from Disneyshopping.com as they still have it in stock
4. Steal it from someone who has it.

It's just in that one particular short
Bearly Asleep, that to me things just seem annoyingly close to the top of the frame, like at times the bears heads will be up against the frame etc.
Also the 4:3 versions were not pan and scans of the cinemascope frame, they were completely recomposited. If you google some of the cinemscope cartoons on youtube,
Bearly Asleep for example, then compare it to you DVD you'll see what I mean.
It's a bit like with
Lady and the Tramp where there are equally as legitimate widescreen and full frame versions.

Dr Syn clearly had greater pent-up demand for years now - - and that's with NO general public advertising - - Every year the Disney Home Video folks are always expressing surprise at the popularity of these titles.
They shouldn't wonder - - the aging baby boom population is HUGE and looking now to relive their tender moments of nostalgia. And the best titles play to the next generation too.
I hope one day WDHV awakens from their resistance to understand that they are leaving money on the table in regards to Walt's library in general.
(They should quickly offer a mainstream movie-only version of "Dr Syn Alias the Scarecrow" for the many boomers who still want it).

If it were up to me, I'd definitely do just that, and I'd also ban all mass media of HSM and Hanna Montana!

I think Disney is well aware of Dr Syn's popularity. By releasing such a limited number of titles they are creating an urgency in the public to buy the title as soon as possible. They also prepared the film in HD which should make the transition of DVD to Blu-ray much quicker than the VHS to DVD transition. My theory is that in a year or two Disney will release a standard movie version of Dr Syn to Blu-ray with maybe a few more bonus features so that everyone who hasn't bought it will have a chance too and maybe the 39,500 who did buy the WDT set will double dip.

Well, there's no reason they can't serve both markets.

So I went out and bought Dr Syn today. It was really expensive like 40 bucks (canadian $)!!!!! But I Bought it for my dad for christmas so I think its worth it. He hates my love disney and of dvd collecting Especially things like the Treasures. But every once in a while he would stop and watch My Host WD or Disneyland USA with me. He used to watch Disneyland on tv when he was a kid and he really like historical themed things so i thought this set would be perfect for him. Its better than the boxers I have gotten him the past 5 years. And its also somthig we can watch together too. I really hopes he likes it (and I hope I like it too)

I know this is off-topic, but what has your father got against Disney?

I think its mostly that most of the money I earn (baby siting and allowance) goes towards some sort of Disney DVD (I just started collecting the Disney movies in march and I already have up to 85). He really wants me to start saving my money for university and stuff. So for him I think Disney is just like another thing I waste my money on.

Dr Syn is still available on Barns and Noble . com as well.
I disagree with those who feel Dr Syn deserves another release. This is a perfect presentation of the film/ series and I think it would be unfair to collectors to do something like that. Im sure the ppl who really want it have gotten it by now and if they havent they better move on it. Im sure it will be the first from this wave to sell out. Besides, there are plenty of copies left out there at this point ....you just have to look...

How on earth is it "unfair to collectors" to have a more widespread, mainstream release of Dr. Syn available. It in no way takes away from anyone else. It doesn't make your dvd less enjoyable to have other people be able to see the movie. It's a very shortsighted and selfish point of view in my opinion. I have the treasures collection, but I think it would be great if a similar mainstream release was made available just like Disney did with the Davy Crockett and Mickey Mouse Club dvd's (and to a lesser extent with the b&w mickey cartoons).
