Disney Live On wrote::o I just finished revisiting this classic film today for the first time in years and it really made me think.

When I heard this was coming out again I was unusually excited about it. Of all the Disney films Pinnochio is one of the ones that never captured me as a child. I dont know why but it was never that great to me. Yet when I heard it was coming out again I instantly remembered 'When you wish upon a star' and 'I've got no strings.'

So I've been meaning to revisit it on my old video. And when I did I couldnt believe how much I had forgotten about the film, nor how many issues I would have with it.

Firstly I'm 19 years old and I dont scare easy but this film really made me feel uncomfortable and freaked out whenever one of the multiple villians attacked or acted meanacingly. Also the children turning into Donkey's was just horrifying.

The multiple villians also weakened the film as there was no ONE villian who could be defeated and for that matter no villian was. The movie ends with Pinnochio happpy but all the little boys who turned into Donkey's who learnt their lessons were never rescued and that villian went unpunished. It just made me feel the film had no closure and no real reason to celebrate.

Finally Jimmy Cricket pissed me off! I got tired of his wise cracks and constant complaining. I was begging for the blue fairy as she was the only character who maintained any control. But after she saves Pinnochio the first time she disappears.

I like this films for Pinnochio's cuteness, the songs and the very beautiful opening scene where he is bought to life. Other then that I find it an episodic mess with lots of issues. I now understand why I didnt like it as a child. It just doesnt have the charm or well defined structure of the other Walt classics. I dont like saying it but its how I feel
I can understand and agree with some of your points, but overall Pinocchio still remains my favorite Disney classic of all time.

What other Disney classic captures such a dark atmosphere and has such a unique story, not to mention it's simply beautiful? This film seems more like an epic film, and it's a genre Disney has barely touched upon with it's animated classics.

How many princess films are there? Pinocchio doesn't follow the regular formula, which includes the film's multiple villains. This is alright however, as it can be taken as a metaphor for the evil in our world, or taken as a symbol of the innocence of youth. Though these villains may be scary, it adds to the atmosphere that is found throughout Pinocchio, which is a very refreshing one.

Pinocchio didn't have physical strength or magical powers to actually defeat any of the villains so his best defense was fleeing them. There are loads of obstacles Pinocchio has to get through but how he handles them is more imporant than the obstacles themselves. He basically makes lemonade (finally at home safely with his father and becomes a real boy) from the lemons thrown at him (bad people, bad temptations).

It's just like in real life, not every villain out there gets caught or punished for what they do. It shows that there will always be evil in the world and no matter where you go (your hometown, Pleasure Island etc.) it will be there. It's a tad grim yes but also rather realistic. Some villains were dealt with enough so that they were out of the picture, Stromboli left town and Monstro was given a large headache I'd assume. But there will always be villains like Foulfellow, Gideon and the Coachman out there no matter how many times you catch them.

I see Pinocchio more as a victim of society than say, some unsympathetic villain of obscure motive that requires "defeating".

Pinocchio's ability to 'grow up' from his childish ways and mature into someone who understands the importance and love of his 'family' (something most people can't do until they become parents themselves [according to my tv shows]), despite the fact he wasn't even human, is reason enough for celebration.

Here is the cover art that Amazon has up
<a href="http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/ky ... occhio.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a13/ky ... occhio.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I still think it looks weird. What do you think?

It's pretty much the same cover, it's just promo art for sites like Amazon and such....

well... you can tell they touched up the characters and they do look less clip-art like. Pinnochio looks computer generated lol. It doesn't look like it'll change much more than this (except the logo, the fonts and everything are obviously promotional).

I guess overall it's grown on me a lot and I like it a lot better. I give in 3.5 stars out of 5 on my personal cover-art chart.

His finger and the bit of the apple should be in front of the banner And I hope they make him look a little less like "cheap CG" and more like the 2D character he is.I'm glad they kept the banner off centered though (and they fixed Figaro's crazy eye !)
diego14_1992 wrote: i just dont know why the main focus is jimminy cricket!!?
How exactly is Jiminy Cricket the main focus ? He takes up maybe a square inch of the entire cover. He is smaller than every other character on the cover and he has a bigger role in the film than all of them besides Pinocchio. So I would hardly say the main focus is on Jiminy.

I'm sure that on the final cover the characters will look more like they did on the artwork that was originally posted. On that version the characters looked more on model, and on Amazon's they just look...strange.

This is a re-worked version on the original cover art posted, i'm pretty sure that beside the title this is exacty what we're gonna get. In other words it is the final cover art.
