Also i wasn't one of those people who said "Pixar made Toy Story so only Pixar has the right to make a sequel". Since Pixar's only part with Toy Story was the animation, Disney have created the characters and done the script had more right the Pixar to create a sequel IMO.
What? Where did you get that idea? Pixar came up with the ideas, Pixar wrote the script, Pixar designed every single set and prop and character, Pixar did everything except the distribution of the movie. All Disney did was give notes (and distribute the movie and advertise, of course). Don't believe me? Watch any bonus feature on the TS DVD. None of them imply that this was Disney's project; in fact, they all imply the opposite.

I think it's sad news, but I hope that they'll change their minds and produce Toy Story 3 someday.

I for one am actually quite sad, Toy Story 3 sounded like it had a good script and seemed to be in good hands with Circle 7.
Anyway, thoughts?
I agree that it really sounded like a good script! I was looking forward to it. Maybe it's right that they'll just start the project over from scratch, but I really hope they carry over some of the ideas from the original script and get all the voice-cast back! We'll just have to wait and see now, huh? It seems like Pixar is not wasting any time in making big changes/announcements.

The story that was to be used was, in my opinion, tired and rehashed. I'm glad they're relooking into the whole Toy Story sequel idea. I'm also glad that Pixar now gets to make the shots about what gets made into a sequel! Here's hoping for The Incredibles II. That was one movie that just screamed out for a sequel.

Let us assume the current version of of saving Buzz Lightyear is probably out but Toy Story 3 still has possibilities. I don't mind, since it seemed like retread to me. I would say the quote does make it clear that the Disney team won't be making any cheapquels from Pixar titles.
I guess A Bug's Life - In Search For The Hidden Fortress is not going to happen.

This is great news that Toy Story 3 is cancelled! That Lasseter guy really knows when to stop making sequels even if it means he can't write another sentence of what Buzz and Woody could do.

Circle7's Toy Story III IS CANCELLED by Lasseter and Catmill.
bslutely great news indeed, now maybe Pixar and Lasseter will do their own final chapter of Toy Story as they always thought.

I suspect they will have Andy grow up. It would be good, but just be very sad. I'm sure they'll show a happy place where the toys end up just to lighten the audience's hearts.

And hence the fact why i hated the bonus features on the Toy Story disc, it is a known fact that Toy Story was to be produced in traditional animation by Disney. It was their baby before it was handed to Pixar.

No, you're wrong. Here's how the story goes: Pixar creates Toy Story and Disney visits them once in a while to see how it's coming along and gives them suggestions and such. Well, the downfall came when Pixar took Disney's ideas which lead to Disney hating the movie and almost shutting it down. But John Lasseter asked for a week or so to change it. So Pixar went back and got rid of all the things that Disney had suggested. As a result, Disney executives loved the end result which became what Toy Story is today.
So...Disney did not make nor create ANY part of Toy Story. It is just believed that they did because audiences saw the Walt Disney name with Pixar and they spread gossip that both companies worked on it. Also, because Disney gave them suggestions and such which was believed Pixar included it in the movie when they did not.

John Lasseter 's idead for TS3 was to have Woddy and Buzz end up in a child centre or something close where there always be children to love them and play with them.

i think i really really really like the idea of Andy growing up and the toys haivng to find a new home. this would be a good soulition to that. The only problem is it might sound a little The Brave Little Toaster-esc. but instead of Andy growing up and bringing them to college, he donates them to the children's centre. it would be a beautiful story!

Why not just have Andy keep them and bring them out after he gets married then gives it to his son.

Well, wether it gets made or not, I'm glad Pixar is behind it, because if it was just Disney, it could end up being a lot worse than in could/will be.

Cancelled!! Awesome!!! They DON'T NEED a TOY STORY 3. One and two were just so good they will mess it up if they come with a 3..just my opinion though.

I may come off as a swivel eyed conspiracy nut here, but I think Toy Story 3 was used to "blackmail" Pixar into joining Disney. I remember at the time it was announced relations had soured considerably between Pixar and Disney.Toy Story is inextricably linked to Pixar, so if this film was bad it would reflect on Pixar instead of Disney. Pixar would lose their reputation as a great film studio. As good as Disney artists are they cannot hope to match the other Toy Story films with a third film. This is simply because they have not been involved in the development of the characters and scenarios for the previous films. They don't know the character's like the Pixar staff who bore them. So if Toy Story 3 were to be substandard story wise, it would not be the fault of the artists. The development of Toy Story 3 seems to me like a shocking waste of artistic talent. Think about the original films these artists could be producing instead of this bogus still born project. This really does illustrate the dark side of corporate entertainment, where artistry is compromised for money.

Quote From Jon Stewart on the Daily Show:
Pixars noted for such hit movies:
Toy Story
Toy Story 2
Toy Story Monsters
Toy Story Under The Sea
Super Toy Toy Story
Toy Story NASCAR (I added the last one)
I do like the Pixar movies but I thought the joke was funny.

actually i do agree that disney may have used Toy Story 3 as something to convince Pixar to come back. i don't think it was a hoax though, Circle 7 did exist and they were working on this project. But to comment on Pixar losing their reputation... The people who don't know any better think that Disney pretty much made the original film, and the people who do know better would know that pixar had no involvement with the production of this film. if not by the way it would have to be advertised, it would be for the simple fact that pixar's name wouldn't be on it anywhere. Unless Disney was to advertise it as "Based on the Pixar classic"
