I'm pretty sure you are overreacting (ALOT!).

Trust me. I've been scammed before and I've seen plenty of bootlegs on eBay and I'm almost positive this is an original. First off, the things you are complaining about are unrational. For instance, the re-wrapped plastic, and no security tape. Now I have this local store that sells used DVDs and they come just like this: wrapped in some cheap plastic, provided by the store, and because its used, whoever opened it before obviously took off the security crap. Also about the glossy insert. Yes, it is a shame but Disney is cheap and on alot of the Gold Collection DVDs in addition to a few more, their inserts are glossy (some of them don't even have inserts! ) and their Disc Art is printed on some cheap glossy sticker that is just slapped on disc. Another thing, this DVD was released in a cheasy white case!

I find it funny that if one person thinks its a bootleg then everyone else just assumes it is. This guy had 100% feedback. Come on. Instead of jumping to conclusions why don't you actually consider that this is an original copy.

A bootleg would look like this:
Bootleg #1
Bootleg #2
Bootleg #3

These are authentics (like yours ):

Authentic #2

Oh, and does this one look like yours? Because its authentic too! (Okay. I'm having too much fun with this! )

Okay, but seriously. Don't overreact like that. Next time research about what you are buying before you just buy.

Seriously goofy108, all the "real ones" that you linked to were in my oppinion fake. What are you looking for when stating that it is fake or not?

"Authentic #1" - The picture is way to bad to see anything and the seller never states anything about region coding or text. The seller has also sold hundreds of OOP titles like Lade & the Tramp and Little Mermaid. FAKE

"Authentic #2" - Language: English and Asian. No real region 1 discs comes with Asian language. FAKE

"Authentic #3" - The picture is way to bad to see anything and the seller is only selling OOP titles from Disney. Highest bidder info is also keept private so nobody can tell them that they are bying fakes. FAKE

It is people like you that are buying these and providing the good feadback for fake discs.

Regarding the disc that this thread is about please read my post about it. I list lots of idications and one profe that it is fake.

Not really. I've bought plenty of DVDs worth more than 20 0r 30 dollars. 20 dollars is like te average price of a DVD at Best Buy. When you compare 20 dollars to the price of a car, it ain't much at all

I feel bad for you. You have a good chance of getting your money back since that guy has good feedback.

I agree that you should contact the seller beforehand when buying these type of items as well as checking past items sold.

Most of the bootleggers I've seen on Ebay will give you a refund immediately as opposd to risking a negative. They can only continue to sell their crap if they have a very high rating. I imagine that your average soccer mom could care less if it's a boot or the genuine article, so long as it plays when she pops it in the DVD player.

I believe you can still post a negative after receiving a refund. Most buyers don't do this. You're probably safe doing it. (I've done this a couple times, but a while ago.) But it's true that the bootlegger has your email, your phone number, your home address, etc.

okay. First off, whether it is a bootleg or not cannot be "your opinion". It is either a bootleg or not. AKA a fact. What I look for in stating it is fake or not is if it has any foreign language is on the cover, or if I know that cover I'm looking at does not look like the one released. If it has a foreign language track like Asian, Chinese, Korean, etc. Things that obviously state it is a bootleg. Chances are, if the DVD you are loooking at on eBay looks like the one that was released in stores then it is probably an authentic copy!

Ummm...Maybe your monitor is messed or your eyes or whatever but I can see this Authentic copy just fine. What exactly do you need to see? Sure he doesn't mention anything about region coding but does that make it fake? If someone says "not a bootleg, authentic" does that mean it is authentic? And actually the selling of tons of OOP DVDs means nothing. Just because he has sold "tons" of OOP DVDs doesn't prove that this Toy Story 2 is a fake.

Now I will give you this one. A Region 1 DVD would not come with an Asian track and this definetly proves a bootleg. I must have missed that early. But the picture is the picture of an authentic. I've seen this before. A bootleger will place a picture of authentic copy to get people to buy it and not pay attention to the rest of the details (like I just did ). Good catch!

Again the picture is not that bad. What are you trying to see? You its too hard to see anything. And the selling of alot of OOP DVDs doesn't mean anything. The private auction is used to just to keep bidders information safe and enclosed.

Actually I have only bought one fake before and it wasn't even Disney. It was a James Bond DVD and I should have realized it. It was coming from China! O well. My bad. I was new to eBay.

This one looks exactly like the ones I have provided (except #2). The only difference is it is sealed and the seller says it is authentic and definetly not a bootleg. Well that dosen't mean anything! A used DVD can still be authentic, too! And I've seen auctions for bootlegs when the seller claims it is 100% authentic.

Actually alot of people have these DVDs. Type in Toy Story 2 in the search bar and you will find almost 8 pages of auctions. Alot of OOP DVDs and not all fake. People actually buy several sets of DVDs when they are in print and then sell them years later for alot of money. Actually people in this forum do that.

This one gets me. I realize that there are no such things as these. Maybe he owns like a used DVD store. Therefore he is a licensed seller and he sells Disney products. I dunno. But that doesn't really matter.

This DVD was not fake, it was authentic. I'm curious Karlsen. You continue to ask me what I look for when stating if it is a bootleg or not. What exactly are you looking for? Obviously, if it has foreign language on the cover or foreign language audio tracks. If it is from an Asian country. These are all red flags. Just because the picture is "hard to see anything" or the seller sells alot of OOP DVDs does not mean that the individual DVD is a fake.

I hope I helped your confusion. I've learned through eBay that researching about the DVD is key before bidding on it. For instance jfig24, if you had researched you would have known that this DVD comes with a glossy insert and it comes in a white DVD case.

I just started a new thread, the eBay thread, where I figured we could all discuss subjects like this or give each other tips or....well I talk more about it here. Its now in the Trade section. Why? I dunno.

Goofy108, I appreciate your advise and input. Although some of the signs I mention might not signal a bootleg to you, they do to me. If someone says that their DVD is Brand New and Sealed....I don't know about you, but to me that means that it will come with the security stickers and the wrap that we are all used to....you know what I mean....basically, I expect it to look like a DVD I would buy at my local Best Buy or Circuit City. I was aware that the DVD would come in a white case, so this was not a surprise to me. The style of the case however was my issue since it does not match any of the cases Disney would use. My other problem was with the look of a DVD that was supposed to be NEW and sealed. Thankfully, he has sent me a refund which I am happy about. Just because a DVD does not have Asian print on it or other tell tell signs of a typical Asian made bootleg, it does not discount it as a bootleg. Not all bootlegs come from over seas. Again, I do appreciate your input.

just as a side not, I also purchased a copy of Toy Story 1 from another seller. I just received it. It did not come wrapped, but the seller said the wrap had been removed but had never been opened. It came with security tape on the top, bottom, and side. The biggest difference between this DVD and the Toy Story 2 DVD is the chapter insert. The chapter insert for this DVD is not glossy like the other DVD. Looking at the DVD itself, it just looks like the real thing...it doesn't look like some cheap plastic DVD like the other one did.

Its true that the DVD either are or aint a bootleg but as long as nobody of me or you have seen it in real life the views in this post are only oppinions.

Asian countrys also make real DVDs so the fact that it has asian print does not say the same as that they are bootlegs. The thing is that the real Asian discs are region coded for Asia not America. But what makes you belive that if the disc are like yours then it is real? If people in Asia can copy the Asian discs why can't they copy the American discs as easy?

I bet there are thousands of bootlegs selling on Ebay every day that are copyes of US editions.

You can never see from a picture if it is real or not by itself but you can see if the cover is badly made or if there are security stickers on it. My monitor is great and so are my eyes but you are only looking to see if it looks like yours and as long as that you will get swindeled.

If you have bought OOP titles of Ebay I am sad to say that the chanse of some of them being bootleg are way high since you show now knowledge at all when it comes to spotting them. You should take the time to read several of the other bootleg threds here on the forum to educate yourself a little in that field.

Thanks for your sincere concern karlsen but I think I'll pass on your tip. I've bought many OOP Disney DVDs on eBay and none of them have been bootlegs. So it looks like I'm doing fine.

They might not be real just because you belive them to be?

Just like Bono's (U2) autograph. A magasine had his autograph on the wall for display untill he saw it himself and stated that it was fake. If anybody had asked the staff they would have sead it was real. Beliving doesent make it real.

But the main thing is that you are satisfyed with what you got, even tough I like it more when people educate themselves so they don't sponsor the pirates that sell the bootlegs.

I do not support pirates of bootlegs nor do I sponsor them. The few I have bought were sealed with Buena Vista stamps, stickers, coupons, and all! Not bootlegs. Let it go!
