This is going to be another DMC exclusive. It seems that Disney has decided to make standard 4K editions of their films since Strange World (with the exception of MCU) exclusive to the DMC. It's a shame cause while I didn't plan to get Elemental, there's a possibility that I will want to get Wish. Not impossible, but more laborious.

I'm disappointed in how limited Disney's recent releases have become, as well. If the Blu will be more widely available than Strange World's, I'll be happy as I'm not a 4K collector, but it really does feel like the studio is leaving physical media behind. I sincerely hope that the US doesn't follow Australia's suit any time soon.

As always, thrilled to see this movie getting more of the love it deserves.

I will always wonder if Onward would have had the same box office legs if it hadn't landed on the most inconvenient release date in cinema history.

I’m glad that Elemental got a major boost at the box office thanks to the international market. Thanks South Korea and Japan.

The movie itself was also good. I enjoyed the visuals and how well thought out the world is. I watched it with little to no expectations even if I saw the trailers for it. (Disney, you should be marketing your original and animated projects well or else ) Ember and Wade are good protagonists and are a really good couple :D. I also like the metaphor of the movie, how immigrants are treated and sacrifices for your family, even if it wasn’t subtle which is fine but could have been executed well.

Also, if Ember’s family’s shop was real, The Fireplace, I would like to visit it multiple times. (Make it real in your parks, Disney!)

I don’t have that much to say other than it’s a cute film and very romantic for a Pixar movie.

WHAT this cant be true!!! Disney is really quick with such decisions! Tbh i still have to watch it but it was a decision between watching AtSV or this in theatres and Spidey wins of course! :P I can catch Elemental still on D+ anyways I still cant believe this news! A PIXAR movie turned into a D+ Series? Why Disney??? It SLIGHTLY got away of being a flop and thats why they quickly decide to turn it into a huge franchise 2 months after its release? Wow Disney is REALLY desperate for money after releasing flops  :P

Get ready guys next year Disney will announce a Wish D+ series with Valentino as the main character and a spinoff series of the 7teens, 2 theatrical sequels and multiple shorts of the Star as soon as Wish turns out profitable😍😍😍😍

I question the validity of this story, but I won't put it past Disney to try this.

But it would actually be the ultimate irony--Elemental landing on the scene as this beacon of original storytelling that transcends the insatiable hunger of the Hollywood capitalism, even being martyrized for it at the start, only to be immediately inducted into the franchise machine the moment it turns a profit.

September 13. I'm surprised they're announcing it with just one week's notice, and that they're putting it so close after "Mermaid"

I just finished this on Disney+. I really enjoyed the vocal performances from the leads. Wade in particular was a really… er, refreshing romantic male lead. I think the storytelling was a little contrived at points so I can’t say it was more than mid tier Pixar for that reason. But it was cute. Of recent Pixar, I’d rank Elemental below Turning Red and Luca but above Onward (haven’t watched Lightyear yet). I think they went a little overboard with the punny swearing and sexual innuendo, though.

“Punny swearing”? “Sexual innuendo”? I didn’t really get that, and for the latter no less innuendo there another Disney movies which have much more prominent (including Flubber which may be the first and possibly (one of?) Times to have an actual start of Sexual intercourse in a Direct banner Disney movie, and it’s not even mentioned in the MPAA rating) of that

There were several moments in the movie when a character would use an “expletive” but the real life word would be replaced with something related to the elements. It happened enough that it stuck out to me. There were fewer instances of sexual innuendos in the movie, but coupled with all the fake swears it just felt a little weird to me.

I don’t think we need to go all “protect the children!!!!!!111,” because the jokes will go over their heads and as you say it’s happened in other Disney/Pixar movies, too. Just thought there were too many jokes like that, it wasn’t funny and a little juvenile.

I agree with you. It got annoying at some point. I thought Wade and Ember's relationship was cute but the plot about the leak and the flood wasn't interesting enough.

For me, it’s the opposite, I do think how they “censored” the swear words with words that relate to elements was clever. I also do think that we need to bring back jokes that go over kid's heads and appeal to older audiences like what Dreamworks or Sony Animation did with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, though the latter is known for its edgy comedy. However, them using Cloudpuff or Fireball as racial slurs were kinda off and weird to me, like I get it, they’re elements but I almost didn’t take it seriously because of how genuine they were using it.

It was also weird that "Hot" or "Smoking" in slang would mean the same thing that they do in our reality. Especially considering that the fire elements face discrimination, so you would think these words would be offensive in their world. The world building doesn't feel as well thought out as Zootopia's for example.

Well, Ember reacted quite harshly to those words, So they definitely are offensive in their world

I only remember one eyebrow-raising instance, and that was in the end when Ember's dad said he and her mom would now have more time for hanky panky. It made me chuckle though.

The movie was a pleasant surprise. I skipped it in theaters because the trailers were awful and what I read in the official storybook didn't impress me at all. Parts of the world-building felt somewhat off but I tried not to overthink it* and just enjoy the movie. Gorgeous visuals and well-developed main characters, although the crying/emotional water elements were a bit too much and giving them all that characteristic was certainly a choice. The story was all over the place at times and some of the plot points were contrived, presumably as an excuse to give the leads more time to spend together and develop their relationship. Overall I think I liked it better than Turning Red, Lightyear and Onward, about the same as Luca, and slightly less than Soul.

*How are their surroundings made and why do they sometimes appear fire-resistant and sometimes don't? Are Wade and Ember supposed to be the first inter-elemental couple?
