To
SWillie!: You apparently didn't understand when I said "cliffs" in KH
2. (I was more specifically thinking of the rocks at Hollow Bastion in the sequel, for anyone whose played it). Not an
island from the first game made in
2001.
Besides, anyone who could say this:
No video game art has ever come close to the shot from the teaser.
...is not someone I feel ashamed to disagree with.
Btw, I actually
don't make posts to see how many people agree with me. Strange enough, I make them to give my
opinion. Foreign concept, apparently.

Divinity: Point taken, and that's my mistake that i missed that you were talking about the sequel. Although I would like to see a side by side comparison of what you're thinking of, because honestly, I haven't played it. I simply took a what seemed to be a good environment screenshot.
But why is saying "No video game art has ever come close to the shot from the teaser" such a preposterous thing to say? I think a lot of people would agree... not to bash video game art or anything, I mean I have nothing against it... but it just simply isn't feature-quality animation. More recent games are certainly getting there, but I would stand by the fact that especially any PS2 game that I've ever seen doesn't come to close to the teaser.
If you can give me a specific example, please do so. I'm not disagreeing with you just for the sake of disagreeing with you.

Wow, in HD quality it still looks like a painting. In fact, close-up it shows how painted-looking the flowers are.
Now I know that we share opinions here, but let's not ignore the hard work of the artists and the steps they have taken.
If you compare this CGI to any other CGI, you will see a difference, it looks at least a little more like a warm, lush painting.

Wow, that really is quite amazing. I honestly have a hard time seeing them as 3D objects when I'm looking at a still frame of it. I can't wait to see what the characters look like fully rendered and in movement.

I check in on this thread off and on so I may have missed it but there is a trailer/teaser for this movie with rough animation art in it and storyboard stills. Is it really from the movie or is it a joke made by someone. If its legit this movie looks like it could be awful. I was disappointed in what I saw....

That was for an online survey that some people took, I guess to see if people are interested, what they liked/didn't like. But that's not the trailer that they'll be using, probably. For now, the only legit trailer is the teaser trailer. So, while it wasn't fan-made, it was just for marketing purposes to a small group, not for the world to see.

Thanks so much!

Thats good news. I really didnt like what I saw and I hope a lot of it got the thumbs down from the voters. Im looking for and hoping for something more along the lines of what the teaser suggests. That was awesome and exciting to see. Thanks again for filling me in!

You're welcome! I wonder, though, if certain aspects did get the thumbs down, will they just change things for marketing purposes? Like, they'll just tailer future trailers and posters and TV spots towards what people in the survey said? Because surely it's too late to change anything as far as the actual film content is concerned, right?

Well ...Assuming how rough the animation was and how storyboard sequences were used for some parts ....Im lead to believe that this may have been put out really early in the production and story development of the movie. Heres hoping!
Did anyone like what they saw in the rough preview?? Swining like Tarzan by her hair? Using her hair as a defense wepon?? lol PLEASE. I really hope this is not the picture we are going to be seeing in theaters. It really looked bad and it was just very disappointing.

I did like what I saw. At the same time, there have been people saying that the movie really is like a classic story, so I think that particular trailer maybe showed more of the modern funny bits...I wouldn't mind a mix of humor and classic fairy tale.

You can bet your life that those scenes will be in the movie. They would not have gone that far with the animation if it was just a rough version of the story. We've known for quite some time, and it is safe to assume that it hasn't changed, that this isn't going to be a movie without some "modern" humor. But keep in mind that this is only a trailer. A rough trailer that might never be shown in it's final form.

Besides, it's meant to make the hair a bit more interesting. Aside from certain plot points, giving the hair multiple uses keeps it from just being the thing trailing from her head.

It looks.....ridiculous tho. I dont know maybe it will all work and it will be cool. Based on what I saw in the rough trailer tho....It looks like it COULD be an awful movie. Most ppl Iv shown it to agree. We will just wait and see I guess....

It doesn't look awful, as much as it looks like it's been done already. I mean, I can count 10 CGI movie trailers to compare it to, at least.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that those people you've shown it too were introduced to it with a bias.
"Hey so you know how Disney changed the title of Rapunzel to that stupid "Tangled"? Well, look at this: this is supposedly the trailer for it. It's not even close to what a story about Rapunzel
should be. She even uses her hair as a
weapon, for God's sake. Okay, watch this..."
I'm not trying to come off as accusatory, but it's just that not one person
I've shown it to thinks it looks remotely bad. In fact, most of them get more excited about the movie afterwards. And I think that has a lot to do with the fact that I don't give them any of my opinions before they watch it.
I'm actually in agreement with you personally on the trailer. I hate the whole tone that comes through. I love the newer teaser, but the rough trailer, in my Disney geek opinion, was not nearly what I'd hoped. But honestly, I think the general audience of today, not including us fans that check for news about the movie multiple times a day, will think it looks great.

Ok,let's forget the rough draft trailer.
Here's what I'm concerned with the teaser:"Once it's cut,it loses it's power"
There is something symbolic about her hair.According to my research,a girl's long hair symbolizes her maidenhood, virginity,or youth.
This IS an element from the original story. The original story is about a witch trying to preserve innocence. It's not about Disney fans getting the "Classic" fairy tale they want.
Flynn is a screen stealer, but at some point of the moive, he is going to screw up.Rapunzel might be in distress, but Flynn has no idea of taking care of a teenage girl.(This excludes seducing)

Lol well im glad that you werent trying to be "accusitory" because I actually didnt comment on it at all. The feedback I am talking about came from people on a non Disney forum. It was interesting to hear what the reaction was from people outside the Disney fan community. Believe me I really hope I am completely wrong and my concern is for nothing. I guess after seeing what I saw in that rough trailer my high hopes for this movie came crashing down. I just had to vent. lol

Ill keep quiet about it until we see more.
