I got to wondering . . . is it one of the only ways to get a tour? I remember reading that D23 members can also get a tour if they are lucky enough to sign up before all the spots are gone, but is a private tour something a member of the general public can get (like with a ticket admission) or do you have to know someone?
Disney does not give regular studio tours like other studios in Hollywood do. Pretty much the only way to get on the studio lot is to

a.) Know someone with power
b.) Be a D23 member and be lucky enough to get in to a tour
c.) Get a private tour through DMR.

I was lucky enough to get a tour of the archives in 2008 because I know someone who knows Dave Smith, but I didn't get to see the rest of the studio. I am a D23 member and have tried to get into a tour, but haven't been successful. However, I am 700 points away from 15,000, so I think I'm going to cash in my points for one of the DMR tours when I have the time and money to go to Burbank. My boyfriend and I are looking into doing the Radio Disney tour because it appears to include everything from the studio tour in addition to a tour of Radio Disney, all for the same amount of points.

Goofystitch- Cool, thanks for the info! I practically started drooling when I realized they had the tour as the award (and was also wondering about the radio one). And when I told Rey about the possibility of a tour, to my surprise he seemed more excited about the idea than I was! I'm not sure how many points I possibly have, but I do have tons of Disney DVD's. I'm going to be watching for the double code days and see how many I can build up.

One of the best parts of all this is that it's gonna make Rey encourage me to buy more Disney movies so I'll probably be picking up on lots of titles I've been holding out on. :)

I put the tour on my DMR wishlist, in case I win that contest where you win something on your wishlist - I wanna go on a tour!

Do you guys really think the tour will really be worth $500.00/15,000 points? I figured from all the backstage Disney stuff and through the making ofs on the DVDs I've seen enough to be satisified.

The Southern California Adventures by Disney trip costs $2,289 - $3,669 per adult and $2,069 - $3,309 per child and you do get a tour of the Walt Disney Studios, but there is no way to take that tour without paying that price for the trip, which is 4 full days and 2 half days and 2 of those days are at Disneyland, which can be visited for MUCH cheaper per person, even when staying at the Grand Californian.

So there is no way to buy a studio tour, not even for $500 per person.

Just a heads up on the tours from DMR - I spoke at length to a couple of their representatives at the expo and DMR only gets one each of the tours to give away as a prize. Evidently the studio gives them a special time allotment per fiscal year (the explanation was kind of complicated and also reveals why the program always has an expiration date but keeps extending). That's why the big tour with the trip to the off site archive storage facility hasn't been offered again.
Oh and you have to prove you own all the titles you have redeemed for points to claim the prize - so be prepared to send in all those proofs of purchase from the back of your DVDs.

Thats the vacation now. their use to be one with just the tour of the studio. with no hotel stay. it was about 500 for 4 people. it was around the time that the tour came up the DMR. because i was debating to either pay or redeem.

I'm waiting, for certain. After spending 2/3 of my points on the apple, I gotta rack 'em back up!

That's an outrageous thing to ask of someone. I know that I've given a number of dvds as gifts to nephews, nieces & others but always removed the code sheet before they got it. I bought them and so I got the points. Now if I were to win it I would have to try to figure out every gift I've ever given and ask people to cut up their dvd packaging to prove to Di$ney I've bought them. I'm glad I kept going for the sculptures. That is beyond the pale.

I got a question, because someone at DMR didn't answer my question correctly when I got an e-mail back from them...

When you send in for points from a DVD that's missing the code, I know you have to send in the proof-of-purchase tab and the receipt.

Can the receipt be a photo-copy?

I don't want to send them the original receipt as it has data for other products I purchased on there.

I sent them a copy of the receipt and they accepted it. Of course the receipt was from DMC where I had ordered the disc so...

I just received my DMC packet in the mail for the UP release, and there was a DMR code included. I have no idea how much the code is worth as i'm saving it up for the next double points day, but just a heads up. It was mixed in w/the rest of the non-movie offers.

Personally, I think it would be a great bonus way to reward members of the club each month by including it w/the montly mailing.

The DMC code is for 50 points. I'm assuming this was sort of a Holiday bonus and that it won't be a recurring thing, but it would be nice if it was. They sent me a bonus 50 points last November when I placed an order, so maybe this year they just decided to send it to everyone.

Glad I read this. I just glanced through the DMC literature & tossed it in the trash yesterday. Just grabbed it out of the circular file and found not one, not two, but three holiday code sheets. Got other family members who can use the other two. :D Guess I'll hold them until the double code day (doesn't appear to be an expiration date on them).

Anyone who has the Baby Kevin Plush or the Mommy Kevin Plush (or both), could you tell me how big they are? My parents won't get me one until they know if they're worth 19 bucks. Also, does anyone know any ways to get additional codes for this month or the next? I've done the survey, Blu-ray, Refer-a-Friend, and HEART and the E3-something, but I think there might be more.
