The difference between a movie show and a tv movie!! It is not the same to be able to pause it and watch it at home!!

I really loved Ashley Tisdale as Sharpay! I really think she completely owned the role and showed Tiara who was boss! It was so cute when they had their feud on stage. I loved the matching dresses!

oh! The French Maid thing was so hot! Wow, I loved that scene...
Anyone know whats so sexy about a French Maid costume? I sure don't get it, but Vanessa looked great in one! Kay, I'll stop now. I'm so happy she was in this, I would have been so mad about the Adrienne Bailon replacement rumor was true. I know everyone says Vanessa can't act for nothing...but shes just so adorable!
Honestly though, I think Ashley Tisdale owns the role of Sharpay, she owned all them.
And don't worry
Akhenaten, my toes were tapping to the music too.

Now You Can Duet With Troy and Gabriella
On Friday, High School Musical 3: Senior Year will follow in the box-office steps of Hairspray and Mamma Mia! and offer a sing-along version, onscreen lyrics and all, in 125 theaters, Disney said today.
HSM3 has been the No. 1 movie the last two weekends, grossing $61.8 million through Sunday. The sing-along version will hit theaters as the movie ventures into the hyper-competitive holiday movie season, which kicks off Friday with the arrival of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.

My mom's birthday!
It will be out sooner than I would have expected, then again, I could also expect Disney to release it by Christmas. I hope it's a two-disc.

I'd buy a triple-feature of all three HSM movies... and I think it would be totally awesome if they were all in widescreen (I believe I've seen pics on a thread on this site that showed widescreen shots of the 1st one, don't know about the 2nd).

I saw HSM3 a couple of days ago and loved it! The songs weren't particularly memorable as the songs from the previous two movies, but they were still good ("Now or Never" was my favorite). I liked all the little hints to previous movies, like in Sharpay's introductory scene, when the instrumental, guitar-heavy version of "Fabulous" plays as she enters the school.
And did anyone else really liked the writing? It was really sincere, that Troy-Chad bedroom talk ("Everyone knows you don't bring your high-school girlfriend to college") in particular. It looked like an actual conversation between two real 17-year olds (well, sans the profanities), and not something out of a pretentious indie-flick (I'm looking at you, "Juno"!). Troy-Ms. Darbus conversation was great too, it could have been really cheesy and yet they managed to avoid it.
One thing I didn't like: the plot revolved around their prom and we didn't even get to see it

. Maybe it will be a deleted scene on the DVD?
The chemistry between the actors was amazing as well. Great movie and a perfect ending to the franchise. Too bad Disney's making HSM4.

Incredibly, though the HSM franchise is very much a money-grubbing scheme by the Disney company aimed at young teens, it seems to have turned out all right ... which is a rarity in franchises motivated by nought but dollar signs. I haven't seen any of the three films myself, but I believe both the original HSM and HSM2 were warmly received.
Unless I am mistaken they were even reviewed on Ebert and Roeper and each got Two Thumbs Up!
And with HSM3 I was surprised once again. I thought the critics would roast it as an infantile, squeaky-clean, disguised rabid Disney marketing - when lo and behold, it gets a 67% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a very good rating!
I still have no personal interest in seeing HSM, but if the films really are as good in quality as the general public and movie critics make them out to be, then that's darn refreshing!

Well, I'm not sure how true this is, but I just discovered it:
http://community.livejournal.com/ohnoth ... 31390.html
It's supposedly a message from Matt Prokop's Myspace page:
Date: Mar 7, 2009
Subject: HSM4
Body: Not only will HSM4 not feature your loved Wildcats: Troy, Gabriella, Sharpay, Ryan, Chad, and Taylor, but I will also not be a part of it. Disney decided to go with a completely different story line. I'm so thankful to be a part of 3 before they decided to change everything. Enjoy the new characters......whoever they will be.
Matt
I liked his character. And he was super nice when I interviewed him. And, a 13 year old girl I know will be heartbroken; she thinks he's hot.

Sorry for bringing this thread again, but I just saw the movie last night and I want to post my thoughts on it...
Believe or not...I loved it. Yes, I am as stunned as you are. I merely liked the first two movies but thought they weren't THAT special (the first one, in fact, made me question the value of the main characters). But the third one...wow.
One thing I noticed is that this movie is more of a musical than the first two movies. Yes, the first two movies had songs and thus were musicals, but they were more about the story and characters than they were about the songs. Yet the third one its more about the songs. It feels like there are a lot more songs in this movie than in the first two. So much so that little emphasis is put on the plot.
Really, its as if the tension of the story doesn't come till halfway near the end. The drama is surprisingly light and not even Sharpay is light and toned down(though, on this aspect I applaud the creators since I thought she was too over the top in the second one).
Also, you guys remember all those rumors about Ryan being gay? Well, if it wasn't for the fact that he was trying to get something started with Kelsie I would believe the rumors. His mannerisms are very different from the first two movies and he was over the top, especially with his hand gestures.
The music, dare I say it, was GREAT. To me, the first two movies didn't feel grand enough. It felt like the characters just stopped to sing karaoke, even if the songs were catchy. But IN HSM3 there's a real sense of music and grandeur. They literally stop the show to deliver amazing musical numbers.
The sets and costume design was also amazing. They were highly fantastical, with small details that truly made the film a spectacle (like how the students were seated so that they spelled E H during the graduation scenes).
So save for the light plot, drama and character development HSM 3 was great! I almost feel ashamed saying that, but it truly is a Disney spectacle.

Finally got to see High School Musical 3 (without paying for it) via some free channels this weekend. I'm always behind everyone else these days. I might finally get to see Bolt in a week or two.
Anyway, I thought the music was probably the best they’ve had, if you’re looking at their overall soundtracks. “Right Here, Right Now,” “Scream,” “Now or Never,” and “HSM” were especially good. The “Fabulous” instrumental playing over Sharpay’s intro was also nice. And Troy and Gabriella seemed a lot more interesting in this movie than they did in either of the other two. I also liked the new “under-study” characters, particularly the one who was obsessed with being like Troy. The Brit girl played her part well, too, but I didn’t like the character once she turned on Sharpay (I’m a loyal viewer—lol). And Ms. Darbus returned—best adult figure in the movies!
There were some bad points for me though. First of all, the movie definitely screamed made-for-tv despite having been released in theaters (sort of like The Jungle Book 2). The musical numbers kind of stuck out because everyone was always so stationary onscreen—the only ones that didn’t do this too bad was “I Want It All” and “Scream.” I also thought Sharpay looked really weird in the first half of the movie (just walking around the school). She gave off a “spoiled, rich girl” vibe instead of the usual “diva” one I like. Of course, she went back to normal in the second half, once she was dressed up. I also thought Ryan was kind of off in this movie, too, in the very few scenes he got (grumble). Which is sad, because these two have been the most interesting in the past wo movies. Here, they kind of seemed a little re-invented for the big screen. And the ending dragged on forever, though I did like how they jumped in front of the curtain at the end.
A few wtf moments:
- Gabriella nick-naming Troy “wildcat” in the last 20 minutes. The way she said it so serious and non-smiling just made me laugh.
- Troy speaking at the graduation—wouldn’t Gabriella have been valedictorian?
Regardless of the flaws (as could be expected from a HSM), I enjoyed the movie overall. It was a pretty good send-off to those characters. I have no idea how a sequel could work with all the main leads but Sharpay off. None of the new characters could hold a whole movie, even a TV one.
On an unrelated side-note, concerning Ryan's ambiguous sexuality, I think the movie definitely leaves him open to viewer interpretation. Because, even though it shows him asking Kelsi to the dance, it never really comes off romantic (they never kiss or anything). I mean, he danced with the chubby girl in the past movies, too. But they could easily just be going together as friends. In fact, for some reason, it made me notice that Kelsi could easily be the other way, too. Unimportant, but I enjoy seeing characters representing me and friends now and then (stated aloud or not).

Well, I just discovered it, and wanted to share it, it's kinda old, but for the people (like me) who didn't know.
Kenny Ortega is out. Jeffrey Hornaday is in…for High School Musical 4: East Meets West.
While Kenny will be busy directing the upcoming Footloose, Jeffrey will take on the Disney franchise that became a worldwide phenomenon. He shared with the press early this morning, “I’m excited to be part of a franchise that, thematically, encourages kids to believe in themselves. Like the first three movies, my goal is to keep the art form of the traditional musical alive, yet bring a contemporary emotional response to the story and its characters through song and dance.”
Jeffrey Hornaday choreographed Flashdance, A Chorus Line, and also directed Madonna and Backstreet Boys world concert tours.
High School Musical: East meets West is a classic love triangle set against the cross-town school rivalry between the East High Wildcats and West High Knights.
As previously reported, the three sophomore Wildcats introduced in HSM3 — Matt Prokop, Justin Martin and Jemma McKenzie-Brown — will not be back for the continuation of the franchise.
Hmm...First Grease and now Romeo and Juliet.
Couldn't they come up with something else? (I still love HSM!)

Actually the first movie had a Romeo and Juliet story. I'm disappointed those characters won't be back; don't get me wrong, i didn't like them, but that means those characters were completely useless on Senior Year.

Wait a minute. The super annoying underclassmen added to HSM3 for the sole purpose of continuing the franchise won't actually be continuing the franchise? What what what?
