unprincess wrote:DisneyEra, the Forbes article was really good (and very detailed with all those BO stats!) I just hope Disney takes what it had to say into consideration. I like this part:
The reason any of this matters is that, while Zootopia and Finding Dory were both technically female-led animated features, Moana is the one that was both a princess-ish folktale and explicitly marketed with the female lead’s name in the title and with no shame about its “girl power” elements. So, if the film is perceived as an underperformer, it may well have consequences for an industry looking for any reason to view said “unconventional” release as a box office miss. It is important than the consensus views Moana as a relative hit, which it is, if we want more of its ilk.
the singalong is a good sign that they still have faith in the film, maybe it will help increase its BO a bit. Id love to go but the holidays have really left me bankrupt.

Id also love to see a short or tv special like they've done with Frozen but Im not sure thats something theyd consider worthy of the expense since again the movie's performance & impact hasnt exactly been of Frozen level.
I'm still waiting for Disney to release a statement on what they think of Moana's B.O. performance. I just can't see them calling a feature with $226 million domestic & counting that it was a disappointment/lackluster. As for oversees once it hits that coveted $500 million mark, it's a success, anything more is just gravy. It will hit that mark possibly befor the end of January, then has Japan in March. That could be the market to push it over $600, so Disney really needs a strong marketing strategy to sell Moana in Japan. Also, the Sing-Along version being release to me shows that Disney is pleased with Moana's performance, because if they were not, why release a Sing-Along? With this weekend being another Holiday weekend , "MLK birthday" Moana should pass Pixar's Brave domestic gross of $237 million!

oh cool, at least we're getting a little short for the Blu-ray!
and I feel better about Moana's BO performance, I didn't know it was tracking very similar to Brave and WIR.
while I wouldn't exactly want a sequel, I hope Disney doesnt eventually ignore this movie and keeps it alive somehow. I really think it deserves more success and cultural impact than its gotten.

YAY!!!!!!!
Pardon my juvenile behavior, I couldn't resist! Finally a animated Blu Ray release from Disney with an Audio Commentary! For some reason I had the indication that it would include it, due to it being a Ron/John movie.

These are the running times of the bonus features according to
a Spanish website:
• Theatrical Short Film: Inner Workings (7 min).
• Maui Mini-Movie: Gone Fishing (2 min).
• Voice of the Islands (31 min).
• Things You Didn't Know About...Ron, John, Auli’i and Dwayne (2 min).
• Things You Didn't Know About...Mark, Opetaia & Lin-Manuel (2 min).
• Island Fashion (5 min).
• They Know the Way: Making the Music of Moana (13 min).
• Fishing for Easter Eggs (3 min).
• The Elements Of...Mini-Maui (3 min).
• The Elements Of…Water (4 min).
• The Elements Of…Lava (3 min).
• The Elements Of…Hair (3 min).
• Deleted Song: "Warrior Face” (4 min).
• Deleted Scenes (26 min).
• “How Far I’ll Go” Performed By Alessia Cara (Music Video) (3 min).
• "How Far I'll Go" Around the World (3 min).
The new short is only 2 minutes long, similar in running time to the short on
The Good Dinosaur Blu-ray, but it's nice to get more of the characters. The rest of the bonus features are quite short too, but "Voice of the Islands", the documentary about the inspiration for the film, has a decent running time and there are a lot of deleted scenes. And it's great that we are getting an audio commentary for this film!

Yeah, at least
Voice of the Islands will run 31 minutes, which is good. Perhaps a cue taken from last years The
Jungle Book release, which had a documentary which ran 35 minutes. Perhaps Disney have gotten involved with a crew who has little more care for bonus features?

With LLL getting two songs nominated in that category maybe there's hope for a vote split
Not counting on it though. But still happy it was nominated in both categories. I was worried it'd be the one to be left out of the Disney three, but Pixar was thankfully left out, even if that makes sense since it was just a sequel.
yay Moana!
