The CGI looks very bad when Ariel's sister appears

Damn, just release a trailer already.

They released this teaser because people is very upset about the super bowl trailer. I think that they tried to mix the scenes where the cgi looked better and this is the only thing that they can offer us. I don't know why the movie is not already finished when they've been working on it for years..

I liked it. I agree they released it just to satisfy people after the Super Bowl miss.

Does anyone heard that we'll get a trailer for Quantunmania? It's the next big release from Disney to have a trailer like this.

The teaser is ok. The CGI seems to get weird for me during the Jellyfish part. Maybe it'll still get cleaned up, but I'm assuming what we got in this teaser is finished product.

Flounder looked grotesque, some shots looked very fake and green screen-ed, and I didn't like Ariel's dress and headband in the Kiss the Girl scene. However, I did like the shot where she was reaching towards the surface.

When do we see Flounder?? Other than from behind when she is swimming towards the surface/fireworks...

The whole thing looks.... like what I expected. Fake super CGI. I find the underwater shots a little too bright... doesn't feel like bottom of the ocean.

That blowfish is not flounder, it's just a random fish in Under the Sea, will probably appear during the line "And oh that blowfish blow".

Everything I saw was just atrocious, why is the lighting so bad?! No wonder they haven't released a trailer by now, and it's just embarrassing that it comes out after Avatar: The Way of Water. You know, I don't have a high opinion on Cinderella 2015, but that movie is a masterpiece by Disney's standards nowadays.

My bad. I mistook the blowfish for Flounder. Still a very unappealing design for that character and I'm afraid Flounder won't look any better.

I’ve been really rooting for this and was fairly impressed with everything I’ve seen until this teaser. After seeing this, I’m genuinely concerned. This has a huge budget, I don’t understand how this can look this bad this close to release unless it’s actually going to look like this once it hits screens. Why they chose those shots in particular is beyond me. Even the Kiss the Girl shot looks CGI’d somehow? I’m a little baffled. I’m hoping a full trailer proves me wrong, but the fact that we are 100 days out and don’t have one is incredibly concerning on so many levels. I thought maybe this meant that we’d get a full one tomorrow with Ant Man but it’s looking like that won’t happen.

I played the trailer on YouTube on my 4K tv and it looked significantly better. Especially the shot with the sisters gathering.

They must have given us this teaser to satiate us after the Super Bowl, and I'm glad we got something! Ariel's acting with that blow fish is so cute, and I actually am fine with the CGI. I think the movie looks mostly beautiful! I agree with Sotiris that mirrored shot of Ariel going to the surface is great, and I love her blue outfit save for the headband. The headband reminds me of, well...what Black people wore in older times. Is that why she did that? I would have rather something different if it would work. I did also like Eric's outfit though, and that we got at least some of Ursula!

Some of those underwater shots... they are so bright and colorful they remind me of the old kids show Lazytown, if anyone remembers it. Fake backgrounds, crazy bright colors.

Seems to me that the real highlight of this movie will be Melissa McCarthy...

Everything looks like it’s in a swimming pool and not in the actual ocean. The mirrored shot is silly because there’s no natural explanation for that phenomenon other than they’re in a swimming pool or in the clearest waters of Polynesia or something. I’ve never even seen that in the most HD National Geographic documentaries.

But maybe it’ll all look amazing on screen. Who knows. Halle looks gorgeous and beyond perfect for the role.

You probably don't remember me, I can't remember the last time I posted here. I have many fond memories being an active member here many years ago and still friends with some members to this day.

Just thought I'd chime in and say I'm SUPER excited for this film despite the polarizing thoughts on it. The Little Mermaid is one of my all time favorites and I'm excited to see this new version of it.

I recognize some of you in this thread, good to see yall are still around! I'll definitely try and stop by more often

I did, too, and it looks really nice, like you said, especially that shot with the sisters. Halle looked super cute with that blowfish. But I wonder what the moment with Ariel and jellyfish was supposed to be.

I'm for one glad it's brighter. I was worried if it looked too much "real world" we'd lose some of the magic and it would overall look dull.

My complaint is that in a world post-avatar, the CGI just looks out of date. Not that they had the same resources, but it's kind of the difference between the DTV sequels and their original classics. They tried... but not really it.

If the story is good enough, I think we'll forget about the visuals and just accept them for what they are.

I thought the new trailer had some pretty striking visuals. Did it look as pristine as the underwater scenes in Avatar? Well of course not. But I found the footage pretty memorable, which is good. The shot of her heading towards the surface is cool and I like how colorful the under water scenes look. The shot of Ursula was obviously tacked-on to appease people (like me) who are anxiously awaiting her. McCarthy seems great even in that one-second amount of footage.
