So soon! I don't know if you guys have seen this yet, but here is an extensive behind-the-scenes video. It really shows you what happens on set. It even shows you Jeff Bridges when he's filming his part as Clu.

I bought the soundtrack last night, and it is phenomenal. My third favorite original score for 2010 (behind Inception and The Social Network). Less than a week until my midnight showing on IMAX!
Cheers,
JM

I think that people will enjoy this film if they go in to see it for the action and special effects. I think that Ebert enjoyed the film because he can see it for what it is, which is good. The negative reviewers are going in expecting a deep script and some kind of dramatic character study. This is definitely not going to be that kind of film.
I only stress this to try to keep people's expectations in check. I'll be seeing it Friday night at 7 and I'm sure I'll have a great time. We can all exchange notes then. Yeah!

basically...It seems like critics are missing the fact that this is a sequel to TRON...so why are they expecting a plot heavy film when the original itself was mostly a showcase for computer technology in film, rather than some profound novella. If that's not ones cup of tea, that's one thing, but it sounds like a lot of expectations are misguided.

So, according to this logic anybody who didn't like Transformers 2 is a moron.
Disney knew excatly the risk they were taking when they decided to make a sequel of a movie that was made two decades ago, this isn't somethig like Indiana Jones that is ingrained into pop culture that anyobody knows about it, this is TRON, a movie with cult following and a fanbase yes, but not a very big fanbase, it's risky to make a movie that caters only to certain part of the audience, so they can either make the movie good and fun, or at least fun to gain the rest of the audience.
A movie can have great visuals and neat action sequences, but also have a compelling plot and good character development (Curse of the Black Pearl anyone? Any Pixar movie ever made?). Also, you can't fault the critics for noticing the flaws of a movie, that's kinda their job. I agree we shouldn't expect certain films to be more than they are (Transformers example again), but what are people supposed to do? Not have expectations whatsoever? Do not expect movies to meet certain standards? A flawed movie can be entertaining, but just because it's entertaining it doesn't mean it's good.

You're right, that was out of place, I apologize.
But I stand by the rest of the post.

No probs and thanks for the apology.
You bring up a good point that this film is going to be seen by a lot of people who don't even know Tron #1 exists...so I may be jumping the gun a little on what the general public's expectations should be.

Just got back from seeing it and I really enjoyed. While some critics might be saying there isn't much story behind, there's a bit more heart than they give it credit, but I'm not sure you can add much more story than they did. CLU did have a few face problems though.
Spoilers: It did seem a shame that Kevin got killed in the end, I think they could have ended it so that he could have survived and come back to the real world. Then again they could bring him back, if they worked on the assumption that they don't know what happens when a user is deleted. It is interesting to know how Quorra is going to help the world (I'm not explaining that one, you'll have to see the movie).
