Didn't actually get a new DVD, just wanted to point out something strange this weekend:

We went to Acme on Saturday night, just browsing, when we saw a very large display of Aladdin DVDs for $19.95, and we kept thinking, "WTF? It's not Tuesday!".

So I'm just wondering, why do some stores release DVDs before they're officially out? Cause I remember back in early-September, I bought Star Trek: Generations before the 7th, but after they were already recalled.

Certain stores break the street date, for one reason or another. Typically, its not a chain store or a well-known place.

Why didn't you get Aladdin there, Escapay?

They aren't supposed to, and some stores can actually be fined for it or have action taken against them. Some large retailers sign big agreements with distributors that this won't happen (I think Target is one such retailer). It's usually the result of store employees having no idea when a product streets. That's actually part of my job w/ BVHE, to ensure that product isn't placed on the floor before its street date, as it sits in the backroom (which is usually a mess- no wonder there's confusion) for a while before that date.

Believe me, I wanted to, but didn't have the cash at the time.

Also, Kram already pre-ordered it at the Disney store, so we saw no point in having two copies (although...we could buy the one at Acme, then get the pre-ordered one at Disney Store, then return the pre-ordered one later w/o a receipt, hopefully receive store credit, and use that credit later in October to get Mulan!)

Like so many others, I got the Aladdin DVD on Tuesday. I also picked up Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, and Melody Time. There are three reasons for that.

1. Triple reward points at Best Buy
2. Three films I have never seen before
3. The Buy 3, Get 1 free offer, which will get me The Tigger Movie

I got Amy Grant's Greatest Videos 1986-2004 today :D, along with the CD. All the audio and video have been digitally remastered and look/sound like never before, and the commentary and bonus features are fantastic. It even has two of the "banned" videos!

Shoulda said this on Saturday, but wasn't on the internet (at least I don't remember being on the internet...), but my Aladdin: Platinum Edition came in the mail from Paka, for DDb.

Also, yesterday I was browsing around Sam Goody and they had ONE sign saying "2 for 20! All reg. priced $14.99 DVDs!", so I picked two up and bought them, but the ignoramus at the register said "No, we don't have that sale anymore", and I pointed him to the sign, and he said, "oh, well, we don't have that sale anymore" and I said, "then why do you still have the frickin sign up?", and he gave a rather dumb look so I didn't bother buying the DVDs anymore.

The reason some people street DVD's early is because they have overstock and get permission from the studio to put it out early. This is what happened Sunday when I went to Wal*Mart and picked up The Day After Tomorrow two days early for $20.37 (expensive, but well worth the two-day early street). Also, they had a special Warner deal- all older DVD's $7.00, so I took advantage and got The Majestic, Alaska and the long hunted for Carpool for $21.00 all together.

There you are! I was looking at the topics yesterday and thinking: What's happened to Aaron that he hasn't posted an "I got the new Amy Grant DVD and here's the review!" :P

I almost made a new topic which i was gonna call "Where on earth is Aaron and his Amy Grant dvd review? Probably too hypnotized on front of his TV to come here and play with us ;)" :D

 A review?? We'll see what I can do. :P But yeah, I've definitely had ears glued to the CD player and eyes to the TV. The question is, though, did deathie buy it??
