This isn't the first time they had songs in full on soundtrack, but not in film. For a few examples, there's "Why Don't You Do Right" from Who Framed Roger Rabbit and "Streets of Gold" from Oliver & Company, the latter literally cut down to a minute.

Here are the DAILY numbers for this weekend between HP7.1 and Tangled...

Friday: HP7.1 - $20,940,000 & Tangled - $19,700,000

Saturday: HP7.1 - $18,730,000 & Tangled - $18,700,000 (extremely close)

and Sunday: HP7.1 - $10,675,000 ($220 million total gross to date) & Tangled - $10,700,000 ($69 million total gross to date)

That's right...on Sunday, "Tangled" was #1 at the box office, just edging out Harry Potter!!!

Okay, I get that a lot of people love the movie way more than I did, but let's please not exaggerate.

To pap64, I'm not sure that's what Mobje was expecting or not. S/he said they were hoping they'd love it. Sometimes people just don't get a movie, and it doesn't always have to do with high/low expectations. I hear that excuse thrown around a lot.

About the plotholes, I know there was some review on rotten tomatoes that pointed them out as one of their biggest flaws with the movie. I'll try to find that review later. Of course, we all know that most Disney movies have a few plotholes.

I recall 'Gaston' being longer on the soundtrack than in the final film. That bit with Le Fou stuttering towards the end got cut.

I personally felt the movie worked on all levels, even without these bits of music. It's great to be able to listen to them anyway and maybe they will appear as deleted scenes on the dvd/BD.

And honestly, I think Flynn did Rapunzel a huge favor by cutting her hair. If it's already 70 feet long by her 18th year, can you imagine how long it would be when she was 25? 30? 45? (Someone with math skills can probably factor out the growth rate and provide actual numbers, haha!) It would be a terrible burden, physically and otherwise---she'd be pressed into service healing everyone who knew about her, and be threatened with kidnapping constantly.
But most of all, it's just more dramatic and romantic the way it is! Flynn's growth as a person is summed up in one selfless swipe, and I love it.

This is actually a good explanation, Phan. I guess I must have zoned out while Gothel was chaining Flynn up, because I don't even remember her doing that or seeing him in chains. But yeah, it makes sense that Flynn would not want to get stabbed again after he got healed.

You're right, I'm sure that last bit of the movie with the lights was part of the wedding celebration, but... we'll never know. Unless they decide to release a cheapquel, like when we saw the ending in Aladdin thinking they were just married wearing fancy clothes flying on the carpet and then we found out they were not married in the sequel

The only thing I Did NOT like about the ending at all was that they made Pascal a murderer!!!!!! a cute disney sidekick Killing the villian!!! OMG They should have made that hair strand already set for Gothel to fall... bad chameleon, bad chameleon!

BTW, I noticed that Mother Knows Best used a bit of a Broadway reference; a lit-up staircase. Kinda ironic, considering one of the guys who worked on the movie's music works on Broadway/Broadway-style shows/movies.

Okay. Okay. I know that Fangirl hasn't been around lately, but I'm going to take her typical use of angry smilies to try and express my absolute anger and frustration, then I'm gonna rant. Apologies in advance for having stooped to such banality...here we go:



Okay. I am extremely angry/upset/annoyed. No, I haven't seen the film yet. And while I'm not the world's biggest Disney Princess supporter, I really want to see this, and have done since the project's inception. But it looks like the fates are trying to prevent me from seeing this film! As some of you know, I'm living in France at the moment as part of a teaching scheme. I was really looking forward to coming back at Christmas and seeing Tangled, but no, Disney UK in their usual "let's tit things up" mode decided to release it at the end of January/beginning of February. Granted, I am actually going to be back in the UK for a bit at the end of February, but it'll have been out for a month already, and as usual, I predict that many cinemas would have finished running it, and the US DVD/Blu-Ray will only be a few weeks away.

Of course, there is a cinema playing films in their original versions where I live (albeit with subtitles, but still); The Social Network, Red and Harry Potter were all presented in this fashion. But Tangled isn't, and it seems that nowhere remotely near where I live is presenting it in this fashion. True, I could man up and see it in French, but I don't want to, as I cannot normally stand dubbing, whether the film was made in English, French, German or whatever. So, while you're all gleefully discussing the film and raving about it, I'm gonna have to sit and wait seemingly forever for it, and may not be able to see it on the big screen, which is a pain, because this really is one of my most anticipated films of the past few years. I simply don't want to wait for the DVD, like I do with seemingly every other film from WDAS.

That sucks, it really does! Can't you see it somewhere else than the UK? Holland or so? They have the original version in English there as well... Don't they in France?

Saw the movie, it was just alright, not great. I would probably be more disappointed if I paid to see it (especially in 3D).

First of all, they should've left the title Rapunzel, as this is still very much centered around her more then anyone. Anyways, I'll give a brief review (I may make a more detailed one later). I'll start by saying I didn't like the way they bookended this movie; just didn't care for the execution. As a whole, the movie feels very generic, with nothing highlighting that more then the songs. It just seemed to steal from other movies and make the sequences bland and uninteresting. I personally feel this movie would've been much stronger had it not been a musical. I also feel the movie lacked a distinct personality as it was trying to showcase every Disney princess trope that we've seen. On a positive note, both the main characters of Flynn and Rapunzel were charming and interesting but it was just the story I really didn't care for. The sidekicks were pretty worthless, with neither having an arc or real significance that couldn't have been substituted with some very minor tweaking. I was also underwhelmed with mother Gothel, as she felt underdeveloped and single minded. Maybe if she developed feelings for Rapunzel after 18 years of raising her that would cause internal conflict, IDK. I feel there was some really well executed sequences pared with some no-so-good sequences (mainly the musical numbers). The animation was excellent, as usual, but I was really bothered by Rapunzel's character design (on a number of occasions, she looked inhuman, with her eyes being too big and face too wide, like the cute lemur from Madagascar). While the story and characters are a little more organized then The Princess and the Frog, I feel it lacks any kind of distinct personality that will leave an impression, like the former.

Really? I thought she looked fine with shorter hair. I think they were thinking that she would look too much like Belle, so to set the two of them apart they had Flynn cut her hair shorter than most people would think. Besides, Snow White and Mulan (after she cuts her hair to be in the army) are two perfectly fine Disney princesses with short hair. Why is long hair always steriotypicaly beautiful anyways?

Why long hair is stereotypical beautiful? I guess because people think it's more feminine. Especially in the old days you could pretty much seperate humans by looking at their hair. Short = men, Long = women. Ofcourse nowadays those things have changed and i am definitely not saying I don't like short hair. i think it looks cute on Rapunzel and it fits in the story.
