Yes.
Everything happens for a reason. And "Snow Queen" probably is shelved only temporarily until they can resolve story problems and take care of other higher priorities.
Asking for too much and biting the hands that feed you is not the smartest thing to do.

You know, if it had "story problems" way back when, and it has "story problems" now, I ask again. Why is the story even being filmed? Why not just do something different? Why does everybody assume its a film worth making?
Presumably its aspects of the original tale causing the problems in the first place, so in order to sort out these "problems" it probably won't even by "the Snow Queen" to all intents and purposes. [shrugs]

I joined. Not sure if it will make Disney change their minds really, but I want to show my concern for Disney's future in so why not join such a group I thought^^
(Perhaps you should edit the group so that you don't have to approve of all new members, let people join without having to request membership I mean.)

People CAN join without request. Maybe I'll run an edit, maybe I won't.

A story person related: "The main lot decided now was not the right time for another Princess movie, which is what they considered Snow Queen. That's why it was put aside. John Lasseter hopes at some point it can still get made ..."
And nobody I talked to knows how many hand-drawn projects (if any) will be happening after Winnie the Pooh wraps up the end of the year.
"There's several people working on projects to pitch, but so far nothing's been greenlit. Chris Buck is working on another feature idea [after Snow Queen], but that's going to be CGI ..."

Well, I can understand the thought process behind this decision; I'm sure even the animators enjoy doing more than just fairy tales. I just worry that the film may not get made at all--or at least not any time soon.

It didnt have to be a Princess movie. It has the potential to be very dark, cold, and focus on the boy.

To tell you the truth, I really think that Disney is waiting to see how Tangled performs before they choose whether or not to continue production on the Snow Queen. Yah there may have been story problems, etc, etc, but I'm pretty sure Disney could easily hire new story people to fix that. I just think they want to see if the audience still wants to watch fairytale stories, before they pick.

Apart from "Snow Queen" being shelved, Disney's two other upcoming productions have been canceled: "Joe Jump" and "King of the Elves". It makes me wonder; what HAS been greenlit for the near future? Considering that it takes (at least) 3 years to produce one of these films, Disney may run into a dry spell after Winnie the Pooh 2, and will have to rely soley on Pixar for at least half a decade more. Unless they have products up their sleeve that they haven't revealed publicly yet. (I sometimes wish I was a fly so I can stick myself on the wall of one of Disney's corporate meeting offices.)

Dang, is Anything on the horizon at this point? 2d or 3d, they dont seem to have anything after rapunzel and pooh.
Even Pixar looks to be running into a bit of a rut, with the bear in the bow being the only original movie on the horizon. the rest appear to be sequels. even though Im sure they'll all be worth watcing, its still looking a bit grim for feature animation in general.

I think Disney's really gonna have to pull a Wild Card to insure the future of Animation. They always play it safe, but now's clearly the time to do something different.

I can live with that... except- I wish Disney would just leave CGI alone... That's really Pixar's arena.

Anonymous #1 wrote:So does anybody know what's next for Disney or Pixar?
Anonymous #2 wrote:Right now I believe nothing's definite. Mainly rumors as of now. 'Monsters Inc. 2' for Pixar and 'The Snow Queen' for Disney.
Anonymous #3 wrote:Actually, even though people say its shelved there are still rumors floating around out there. The lastest ones are:
1) Kirk Wise (apparently a long-time friend of John Lasseter) expressed interest in directing The Snow Queen.
2) Linda Woolverton (screenwriter of Beauty and the Beast and Alice in Wonderland) was offered to write the screenplay. Unknown if she accepted or not.
3) Glen Keane has also expressed some interest in the film by filling the roll as Supervising Animator of The Snow Queen and Gerda.
4) John Lasseter is still very interested in making The Snow Queen into a film.
5) Michael Eisner offered the rights of The Snow Queen to Lasseter so Pixar could make it.
Anonymous #4 wrote:Regarding 'The Snow Queen' rumors: Every single one of these rumors is false. Don't believe rampant speculation generated by animation fans.
Anonymous #5 wrote:Even though they're rumors they do have some truth to them.
1) Kirk Wise did work with Lasseter on the Brave Little Toaster. Not sure if they're friends though.
2) Linda Woolverton, this one sounds plausible. There was complaints from the female community about how Disney portrays Queens as villianous. So a feminist writer writing the film could resolve the issue. But I'm sure she's already working on something else by now.
3) Glen Keane, now I know this one's false or maybe old news made new. This was Keane's old project, but I highly doubt he would take it on again. Makes me wonder if anyone would want to take on a film like The Snow Queen.
4) Now I don't know if he's that enthusiastic about it, but Lasseter is still interested in making the film.
5) I heard this one too but I wasn't sure if it was true or not. I mean if Lasseter wanted the film then I don't think Eisner would object. I mean he didn't seem all that interested in making fairy-tales look at "Rapunzel Unbraided".
Anonymous #6 wrote:For the last time, Lasseter is NOT interested in making Snow Queen. Look, not to be rude, but you're telling people who work in the same building as John Lasseter and have meetings with him and hear it straight from the source that you know better than us?
Snow Queen. Not being made at this time. Move on.
Anonymous #7 wrote:Exactly, people are already moving on from the film. In fact nobody stated the film was being made at all. IN FACT, all they stated was some rumors. And just like the users above have done, I will say those rumors are just GUESS WHAT? RUMORS.
Anonymous #8 wrote:It is a FACT that Snow Queen is dead. That is not a rumour. Stop your fanboy rumouring. It's a horrible idea for a movie, too.
Anonymous #9 wrote:Talked to a principal at Disney Feature who said that Snow Queen got shelved on orders from the lot. That Lasseter hadn't looked at it yet.
Anonymous #10 wrote:Hahaha! Yeah, Disney execs don't bother to show anything to Lasseter until it's in full production. Wouldn't want him to have a say in what actually gets greenlit, and what gets canceled. Exactly.
Who's your Disney principle, one of the gardners?

Less good news with another movie on his slate: The Snow Queen, an adaptation of a classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale that was rumoured to be Disney’s next hand-drawn animation. Consider those rumours now well and truly nixed. “It’s actually been tabled right now,” explains Don Hahn. “It’s on the low shelf – we can’t reach it! But seriously, we don’t have the story. It’s a bit like Beauty And The Beast, which sat there for years. We cracked Beauty finally by putting in the objects and creating more plot. The Snow Queen we’ve had a lot of trouble with and I’ve spent years on it. I love it and I think it’s one of the last great fairy tales. It’s kind of crappy that it’s just sitting there right now.”

Where did you hear THAT? Last tme I heard "Joe Jump" had been revived.
Me, too...in October, the Animation Guild Blog announced that the film was back in production...unless you've read something that we haven't...the
Joe Jump thread hasn't been updated in months, so unless the news was posted elsewhere...

I'd prefer them putting "King of the Elves" back in production over "Joe Jump". The former seems a much more fitting film for Disney but that is just my opinion.

Definitely. Granted, we haven't got very much info
at all about Joe Jump... but King of the Elves just seems so much more exciting. I really hope Tangled blows everyones socks off, and then they get Snow Queen and King of the Elves back into production.
Also, everyone... don't forget that there's been talk that Clements and Musker are working on something new, also. Although that's the only info we've got on that, it goes to show that just because the only ones we know
for sure are in development are Tangled and Pooh, that doesn't mean that Disney isn't working on all kinds of ideas besides those.

I would love to see The Snow Queen as well . I would like it to have a Christmas feel to it. Has Disney ever done a Christmas Film Before ?

There's Christmas scenes in
Lady and the Tramp, as well as
The Nightmare Before Christmas and the featurette
Mickey's Christmas Carol (not to mention various live-action films), but I doubt that Disney would want to associate one of their major animated features to much with Christmas as it could limit the year-wide appeal, which so many other classics have.
