Maybe Humans: Rise of the Cars would be a better title? To explain the extinction of our species and everything.

Dawn of the Planet of the Cars maybe?

Didn't we discuss this already? They'll eventually cross over into objects like computers, space shuttles, couches and cutlery.

THINK OF ALL THE MERCHANDISE FOR CUTLERY: THE MOVIE!!

Sorry I'm tired.

:)
And then they'll move on to School Supplies, Lawnmowers, Shoes, and the inevitable Clothes

No offense, but I'm really tired of the "Cars 2"-hatred that is going on. I thought it was an enjoyable film and that it really haven't deserved the hatred.

My apologies. I just didn't like it. At all.

Mater is the Jar Jar Binks of the Disney/PIXAR character universe. Larry the Cable Guy is as funny as watching paint dry to me.

Well, while I don't hate Cars 2, per se, I don't think it was good. It was more mediocre as a kids movie, and yes, a disappointment for Pixar.

According to the member adrienc10 on Disney Central Plaza who works for a company that distributes licensed merchandise and attended a Planes presentation on March 12th, the sequel will be released in 2014 (it's not yet know if it'll be a theatrical or a DTV release).

Impressions of the film from a test screening here:

Apparently it is decent. The Rotoscopers do tend to be a little lenient, though.

I just noticed that the director of Planes is another TV animation alumni with credits ranging from Family Dog and The Simpsons to King of the Hill and Father of the Pride.

Clearly this is another friend of Lasseter, like Rich Moore. He's also a major plane aficionado. I have this feeling Planes might be way better than any of us are expecting it to be. That voice cast is also pretty impressive. Does anyone know what the budget is on this thing?

Also, is Disney adopting a new strategy with three theatrical animated features per year? This is the second year in a row with three major releases.

All these follow the initial report that Lasseter was the one who pushed for a theatrical release.
The film has been in the can for months ready to go straight to video. When John Lasseter watched it and decided to release it theatrically, they recast all the roles.

Honor Hunter wrote:The film, the first part of Disney Toon Studios' animated follow up to the "Disney Fairies" series was deemed good enough by John Lasseter that he and head suit, Bob Iger felt it was worthy of a theatrical release. Now, we don't know if it's as good as they say, but the reports we're getting in, are that the screenings have gone very well, and it's a cut above what was expected to come out.

Honor Hunter wrote:It sounds like they're going back to the well with this one, but I do know that the Bothans that have seen it say it's impressive enough that John Lasseter felt it worthy of a limited theatrical release. And the male demographic will love it.

I think it's just a coincidence. Interestingly, Disney released four animated films in 2011: Winnie the Pooh, Cars 2, Mars Needs Moms, and Gnomeo & Juliet.

And if you want to get technical, Disney distributed The Secret World of Arrietty to North American screens last year, too.

Well, technically Gnomeo & Juliet wasn't a Disney release.

Crap. I'm just reminded they're making a sequel to that.... thing.

I forgot about that one. So, Disney distributed four animated films in 2011 and 2012 and will distribute three animated films in 2013 and 2014.

I didn't hear of this until a few months ago, but it looks interesting. I loved both "Cars" films.

The animation sure does look nice. I'm very interested to know what the budget is on this thing.

I mean, Cars 2 cost a whooping $200 million to make and that's excluding marketing.
