That's not true.
Pinocchio (which is only a couple of minutes shorter than Beauty And The Beast) took up approx. 22 GB of it's 50GB (actually about 46 GB) disc.
They could easily fit two versions of Beauty And The Beast on disc one and the third version on disc two, without using seamless branching and there would still be 90+ minutes of HD space left on the second disc.
Another option would be to put the Theatrical version and the Work In Progress version on disc one with seamless branching to save space and the Special Edition on disc two.
They could put all of the HD features on disc two since there would be more space left on it and put the SD features on disc one.
So in case anyone is confused...
DISC ONE
- Theatrical version (23 GB, give or take)
- Work In Progress version, using seamless branching (9 GB, give or take)
- SD special features
DISC TWO
- Special Edition (23 GB, give or take)
- HD special features
Only time will tell though.
You're forgetting that Pinocchio had black pillar boxes, Beauty and the Beast will likely fill the entire screen. So that will give it a bigger size. And of course they could seamless branch the two different versions. There's only a couple of different things. It can be done, if they want to.
Well Sleeping Beauty (which is shorter by 15 minutes, but has a wider frame than Beauty And The Beast) took up about 18 GB on it's disc. So 23GB for Beauty And The Beast is a pretty good estimate.

Thanks for the info,
JDCB1986.
I was browsing Blu-Ray.com's list of upcoming films and noticed this.
May 04, 2010
Fantasia Blu-Ray
Fantasia 2000 Blu-Ray
If that is true, than both Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 will have separate Blu-Ray releases.
And then there was this:
October 5, 2010
Beauty and the Beast Blu-Ray
So if that's true, than Beauty and the Beast is still coming out in the Fall.

Yes this release should come in the fall, best time for it. I mean, most of the movie feels like fall anyway and winter too there's the big falling in love in winter scenes...
JDCB, why the Special Edition on the second disc? The Work in Progress version is much more like a bonus feature...
Kubrick, did you forget that Pinocchio aslo had that "Disney View" which filled the whole screen? Though I guess that was seamless...view expansion?

Another thing to remember about films like Pinocchio that were filmed in fullscreen is that on Blu-Ray, the black bars are letterboxed onto the film. Blu-Ray can't output fullscreen. It will just stretch the image into widescreen. So anytime you see a fullscreen image on a Blu-Ray, it is letterboxed. So a film like Pinocchio that is the same runtime as a widescreen movie should take up the same amount of space on the disc.

Because there wouldn't be enough room to fit all three versions of the film on one disc without compressing them and compromising picture quality.
Since the Work In Progress version and the Theatrical version use the same finished footage, it would make sense that those two be on the same disc to allow for seamless branching.
Since there wouldn't be enough room to fit the Special Edition in it's entirety (with the fixed scenes and alternate colour scheme,) it makes most sense to have it on a separate disc.
Hope that makes sense and answered your question.
It doesn't really matter though, cos I highly doubt we will get the unaltered Theatrical version anyway. It will probably end up being just like the DVD, all three versions on the same disc, using seamless branching and ignoring the fact that the "Original Theatrical version" is really the Special Edition minus the "Human Again" sequence.
Another thing I think a lot of people have been over looking is the fact that it's very possible we will only get one or two versions of the film and that we won't even get all three options. I hope this isn't the case and I know it would start a fury all over this board, but until there is confirmation, we shouldn't assume that all three versions will be included just because they were on the Platinum Edition.

Fantasia Blu-Ray
Fantasia 2000 Blu-Ray
Meh, May will do.
March would have been nicer, but ah well.
Ooh, I'll be back from Japan just in time for Fantasia!

I had exactly the same thoughts. I actually doubt that Disney is going to put the work-in-progress version on the new set. They didn't carry over the deleted scenes from Snow White, so I guess to stop the old PE from flooding ebay they will not put the work-in-progress version on the Diamond Edition, although the Blu-Ray-Format would have been the perfect opportunity to do just that. The sheer capacity of BluRay discs should me argument enough to put all versions out there without compromising picture quality.
Maybe a 3-Disc set would be the best option:
Disc 1: Special IMAX Edition (whatever color scheme they use)
Disc 2: Original Theatrical version + seamless branching with the work-in-progress
Disc 3: Bonus Material

It would be fantastic if we got a 3-disc Blu-ray set for this movie, but we'll just end up having a DVD copy as the third disc in the pack.

Thank you SO much for the trailer, Matt!
What's with the British announcer though?

Actually I searched that on youtube lol. That's not the US speaking guy. The trailer is the same but it's doesn't say fall 2010 at the end, it says only coming soon. I can upload the US one if you like?

I was going to comment on the colors but I think everyone and their mothers on these boards has already expressed their opinions (I think I've already commented on the trailers colors somewhere else).
I will, however, comment on the trailer which is obviously the one for the UK Diamond Edition. The narrator sucks compared to the one for the US trailer, why did they even change it? They're both speaking the same language and if they needed to have the accent, they could've had our narrator just throw on a british accent.
As far as this being a real 3-disc edition (DVD not included), I doubt it. We'll probably get the same thing that was on the Platinum: Work Print, Imax, and cut up Imax called Original Theatrical shoved on one disc. We might not even get the work print version this time.
Having never bought the DVD, anything they give us on Blu will be better then not having it, even migraine inducing colors

I agree. I think Disney isn't really going to put much effered into this re-release. The trailer gives it away. The only thing new will just be a music video and a few bonus features throwen in, here or there and that's about it.

Regardless of "effered", I wouldn't sweat about colors until you see the Blu-ray. Just because they look like that on the trailer is no indication it will look like that on Blu-ray. It will be much brighter!

You want BRIGHTER?
Everyone else wants DARKER!
Well not to much darker, but you know.

So, does the trailer finally resolve the issue over when this gets released? Because, I am just as confused as everyone else on that matter.

Thanks for the trailer. This was taken from the "Snow White" Diamond Edition Blu-Ray/DVD and I will not be getting it next year, because I still have my 2002 Platinum Edition DVD which I had it for a long time. I'm keeping the 2002 release and not be getting the Diamond Edition. "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000" will be coming out first in the spring of 2010 and I will be getting it.

I didn't say anything about them not putting any effort into this upcoming releases, only that I don't think it'll be a 3-disc release; not the same thing.

No, as goofystitch has said, the disc was mastered months ago, so any recent changes to the release date would not be reflected in the trailer (which was the case with Monsters Inc.'s Blu release).

You certainly make it a point of letting us know that you will not be getting these Diamond releases and that you're happy with your Platinums. Makes sense, as there is no point in upgrading to Blu/HD if you don't have an HDTV, but you don't need to hammer us with the fact that you're against buying these Diamond releases in topics devoted to discussion on them. Your opinion is appreciated though.
