DisneyVillains wrote:Any update on this release? I thought we were suppose to get it sometime this month. At this point maybe they are planning it to accompany Snow White in October (although I was hoping for the off chance it would be Hercules or Hunchback)
I actually heard it's gonna be released in late August.
And to be honest, I'm not holding my breath on seeing all the completed scenes that were cut from the movie. But it would be so awesome if that were possible!
Reminds me. What kind of game do you suppose will be on the DVD?

Usually a DAC comes out in July or something, maybe then?

The last couple of years it has been mid-June. Plus, I think if it were July we would have heard something by now.

I had a thought today. You know how new release movies are being paired with a rerelease so that consumers can save $6? What if The Black Cauldron is being held for October 27th so that it can be the movie that you save money on if you buy it with Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure?

Or September 8th with Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
October 27th however, would be closer to it's 25th anniversary year, if Disney decided to re-label it as such (or delay it until next year for that reason).

And October 27th would be closer to Halloween, so Disney could market it as such.
But they could market the "magical aspects of it with
Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
I guess I get nervous when Disney announces that a release is coming, but never tells us when, because they can easily just never release it.

Well, they're probably planning a halloween release, but I can't see them getting that close to halloween. Remember last year on Nightmare Before Christmas they were saying fall, then released the thing in August.
And another problem with the October 27 date you mentioned, that date is starting to look a little tight. Disney just announced the new Tinkerbell movie for that date. And also, that date is starting to look like its gonna be when we get the new Star Trek movie- which I say is probably the best family film (for families with children over the age of 4 or 5) in years, and has a very similar market as Black Cauldron.

Ooh, I know what I'm buying on October 27 then...and it's not a Disney DVD!

I wish they would at least release cover art or something to give up some kind of hope of this release.

I don't think there's any need to worry about this release being cancelled or anything of the sort. I just got my UK Region B BOLT Blu-ray/DVD in the mail (which was released yesterday) and it has a Black Cauldron trailer, with a British voice-over. So the DVD is coming to Region 2 too.

Yeah, but Disney is also the company that released both a trailer and cover art for a 2-disc special edition of The Aristocats, only to push it back a year and make it single disc. There was even a date announced for that one. I've learned to only believe a non-Platinum (or Diamond) rerelease is real when I can hold it in my hand.

Not to mention the re-releases of Tarzan on DVD and TENG DVD (The Emperor's New Groove DVD) Fiasco that happened.....don't even get me started on those two things

Good thing I snagged the original SEs when I had the chance.

waiting for this with bated breath. It's always been a film that has a special place in my heart. I sat at a local library to watch a film print of this in the late 80s because I didn't think it would ever hit home video...

I'm really hoping for an uncut release with the deleted scenes as well! I have a little more hope that it will come out soon, 'cause I found this pic from a Thailand booklet that showed upcoming releases in 2009 and the Black Cauldron was one of them.

I got the pic from this thread about the (hopefully) upcoming release of the DVD:

That was our first news of the release - that's back when it was 'questionable' - we have a much better confirmation now, with a trailer:

We just haven't heard anything since the above ad.

Okay, I wasn't sure if the ad had been already posted. Thanks for the link the trailer, I'm even more excited for the release now!

I check the site listed in the trailer often but it isn't active yet. I'm also surprised the Disney store online still stocks the original DVD.

Yeah, that is surprising. The Gold Collection Edition is the one I have and I was surprised that the Best Buy I went to carried it.
I wonder why the site's still not active? It seems a little silly to me to put the link the the DVD trailer if it's not functioning yet.

I don't think stores are still stocking the Gold Collection version of the film, but rather they still have copies in their inventory. When movies go out of print, Disney doesn't have retailers send back old copies until they release a new version, and even then they often don't. My local Best Buy still had copies of the 40th Anniversary Edition of Mary Poppins the same day that the 45th Anniversary Edition came out, but the old version of Air Bud was pulled weeks before the rerelease. I would imagine that Disney will call back and destroy the previous release when it gets closer to the new edition (if it happens).
