Apparently, while most of us have indeed moved on, a small group (including me and Mickeyfan1990) still clings to this thread.
Oy, you're missing the point.

This is exactly why I weep for what this thread has become. I rarely post here anymore because I know that even if I do add an entry, only that "small group" will read it, while the majority of readers will skip the thread entirely whenever it gets bumped up, since as far as they know, it's just flooded with two posters who do nothing but make a random listing of some movie franchise or TV episodes, the existing bonus features, and only a scant few new ideas topped with the damn "and much more!"

Seriously, this thread is no longer being used the way it was created to be used (mainly, that it would contain actual discussion as well as the wishful-thinking ideas of many posters, and not just the same lists of TV episodes with a few repetitive features by two or three people). That's not what I wanted this thread to be. It is not meant to be just some half-assed typed up list of X-amount of episodes with the same listings over and over again ("audio commentaries on every episode", "trivia track on every episode", and maybe one documentary...) without actually delving into details such as who's interviewed, who gives the commentaries, what a featurette is about (be it an existing or new one). That's not creative, and it's certainly not fitting the idea of "Ultimate DVD".

I don't want to hear any BS or excuses about how someone can't think of good ideas for what to add. If you can't think of ideas for a set, put it on the backburner until you do have an idea. Don't make a new post every time you think, "Hey, what movie/tv show haven't I not done yet?". Seriously, it's a waste to have this thread bumped up like once a week only to find that the latest post is just another list of 13 episodes from some random show nobody else gives a sh!t about, or just another list of 23 DVDs in a movie series, with the special features jammed into one disc instead of the 10 they originally were on.

I don't like the direction this thread has been going in over the past several pages, and while there have been a few standout entries, most of them are not (IMO), which is why there is little/no discussion. If it continues in this manner, then I'll simply request again what I posted nine months ago...

As of late, this thread really has had little/no discussion and every time it's bumped up, I can't help but utter a sigh of discontent. Could it (and the Ultimate Disney DVD thread) be moved to Polls & Games, since neither garner that much discussion anymore?

Scaps
My request still stands. This thread really is more of a game now than it is a discussion, so can it (and the Disney version by T-SoD) be moved to Polls & Games?

Scapsta
I still feel the same way now. As the creator of this thread, I have every right to request its movement and/or closure, since I feel that both this thread (and T-SoD's Disney version) has suffered in quality and neither garners any *real* discussion anymore and as such, is not necessary to be in one of the forum that generally calls for discussion.

But I'll hold off for now, in the vain hope that perhaps someone out there can contribute something that's worth discussing. However, if things continue the way they are, I have not choice but to ask for this thread's movement to Polls & Games.

In the meantime, hoping to get this thread back towards what it used to be...

I fully agree with Albert. Mickeyfan and BDF, this thread is pretty much the ONLY thread you post in. And posting just to say "WAIT THERE'S MORE HOMESTARRUNNER AKA SOME WEIRD ONLINE SHOW THAT ONLY .5 PEOPLE WATCH!" is just unnessisary.

Well, I happen to find this thread fun. And while it is true that BDF and I post alot in this thread, it's always fun to post our ideas around. Plus, I finally found a topic that's right for me. I think of DVD ideas all the time when come a remake, anniversary, the right time, etc. That's why I post alot in this thread. I hope this answers your question.

I feel the exact same way as Mickeyfan1990. Just because we post a lot of the content does not mean that this thread should ever be altered in any way, shape, form or location. This thread should be about any DVD ideas, not just big fancy ones. When we come up with a DVD idea, we'd like to put it down someplace and this fits the bill just fine.

And besides, I'm not copying anyone else's work at all, except my own.

You guys are still missing the point.

Regardless if it's just the two of you posting here, there is no DISCUSSION anymore. It's become nothing but list after list that really is not that creative (IMO). Thus, why I think this is better in Polls & Games. It's not contributing to any discussions, it's not even a game either. But since you guys still post in it, the Games forum is better than it getting locked. Because I've seriously considered just asking to have the thread locked as I've become extremely dissatisfied with the direction it's taken, and would rather have this kind of..."stuff" be in a thread that doesn't have my name associated with it.

However, as I already said earlier, I'll refrain from officially requesting for the thread to be moved to Polls & Games. Consider this the final chance for the thread to prove it's worth discussing. Stop making just lists of the existing DVDs and adding a vague "new documentary!" or "and more!". And for god's sake, stop changing the aspect ratios. If it's meant to be seen in 1.85:1, it shouldn't have an all-new 2.35:1 ratio.

If there's still just lists and not-very-creative DVDs (it is "Ultimate" after all, most of what I'm seeing here...isn't.), then I'll request the move to Polls & Games. Be grateful I'm not requesting that this thread be closed, and that future threads not be created (because as BDF so masterfully pointed out, apparently I created the idea of Ultimate*, so I guess that gives me the right to say whether or not new threads for it could be created). And since this thread has *not* been about a truly Ultimate DVD, my reason for disappointment. There have been a few good ideas thrown around (for example, I enjoyed reading Mickeyfan's Child's Play sets, but would like to know more beyond the names of a few documentaries), but they are still too vague and not fully expanded on, which is the whole idea of "Ultimate". This thread is meant for the "big fancy ideas" not just any ideas. If you want an "any ideas" thread, make one, but don't call it Ultimate.

Okay, please don't flame me for what I'm about to say, please!

Here it is, another DVD ideas thread, one that has absolutely nothing to do with the word "ultimate". You can be as vague as you want with your DVD ideas in this thread. Why, even the thread title is vague. Anyway here it is: Make your own DVDs.

And now I guess we can get this thread back on track if we can.

BDF, as your thread is just a rehash of this thread, I have merged the two. I see no need for multiple threads based on the same concept, no matter how the thread title is worded. However, I do think a bit more effort should be put into any dvds created for this thread. For example, tell us why you choose the features you listed. That is one way to make the posts more interesting to read, and maybe it will bring discussion back to this thread.

Escapay, sorry that I've been neglecting this thread again. I'll move it to polls & games if that is what you want, or we can wait a few more days to see if any discussion pops up. Whatever you decide is fine by me.

Damn. The main reason I suggested a different thread was so that one could have the past 10 pages of disappointment while another could be devoted to the real idea of ultimate.

Then again, I'm always grumbling about merging new threads with old threads, so suggesting a new thread probably wasn't a good idea! :P

Ah, don't worry about it. Chances are that my request last December was ignored completely for the same reasons that other people ignore the thread: they figured it's just another list.
Ceej wrote:I'll move it to polls & games if that is what you want, or we can wait a few more days to see if any discussion pops up. Whatever you decide is fine by me.
I waited nine whole months, what's a few more days? :P If by this time next week it's just still a list thread and nothing that's meriting discussion, I'll finally be relieved when it's moved to Polls & Games.

To start off the discussion, Mickeyfan, who's interviewed in your Ultimate Edition Igor featurettes and how long do they run?

Also, Panfan and Ceej, I haven't seen any Ultimate Editions from you guys yet! I wouldn't mind seeing your thoughts on a wishful-thinking DVD of your favorite non-Disney movie (even if it already has an excellent DVD).

To start off the discussion, Mickeyfan, who's interviewed in your Ultimate Edition Igor featurettes and how long do they run?
Answer: John Cusack, Steve Buscemi, Sean Hayes, John Cleese, Molly Shannon, Eddie Izzard, Jennifer Coolidge, Jay Leno. You know the cast and crew who worked on Igor. The Igor documentary runs about 30 minutes long and the featurettes run about 10-15 mnutes long. Interviews are mostly 5 minutes long. You see where I'm going this. I give runtimes mostly on documentaries since thier the grand enchilada of the DVDs. Featurettes and Interviews I don't give out since we know they're short. Not short-short but just like 15-25 minutes short.

The truth is, I'm not much of a "give featurttes a runtime" guy. I try to be specific/give a description to the featurettes. The point is, is that we like to make our ideas differently. You like to give your ideas description, specs, runtime, etc. I like to give my ideas with some new stuff, add everything that was on previous DVDs (since there will be no reason to keep the old), maybe give disc art, exclusive items, and what-not. It's also the same with BDF except he gives descriptions to certain featurettes/easter eggs. We all have a system and POV. You did a great job starting this thread Escapay and I thank you SO much! Just let me make my ideas my way, you make your ideas your way, and everyone makes thier ideas thier way. Thank you for listening. Hope I wasn't harsh. I look very foward to make more DVD ideas for the thread soon. :)

Don't worry, you weren't.

I'm just the type of person who would rather have those extra details and specifics like runtimes and interviewees. It's one thing to say "Craziness: The making of Doctor Gulley and the Dalmatians of Doom", but (for me) it's more interesting to read a description about the documentary, as well as who's featured in it. Because even though "cast/crew" can usually apply to featurettes, it's often nice to know which members. After all, a little-known member like the steadicam operator may have a few good stories to tell. ;)

Same with featurette descriptions. While it's interesting to read a title like "The Animation of Doctor Gulley", what exactly would it be about? Is it just animators talking about the inspiration behind their character design, or just them saying "this is how we did this scene". It's fun to have descriptions so readers get an idea of what the writer wants the featurette to be about.

After all, anyone can imagine something, but it's fun to read what others have imagined.
BDF wrote:Escapay, let others do things their way and not your own.
I never said I wanted them to do things my way. I am merely saying that I've been disappointed in how little effort seems to be put into making what's really just a list, and that sometimes things like details and descriptions, runtimes and names, etc. can enhance them.

For example, vague descriptions of "audio commentaries by the cast and crew on every episode" could mean that there are 500 people at once commenting on a half-hour sitcom episode. Or it could mean that particular episode's writer and two stars are discussing it. Which version would be a more interesting read in this thread and which version is just too vague?
Panfan wrote:Okay, I'll do a DVD within the next day. I think I may do one of my favorite movies that has only one practically barebones release...Romy and Michele's High School Reunion! :P
Cool, looking forward to it! And make sure to include Romy and Michele: In the Beginning as a bonus film or something!

:) I'll gladly accept that elephant. Now, all I need is to find somewhere to put him.

It's been several days now, do you want me to move the thread or leave it alone for a while longer?
The Tracker wrote:Also, Panfan and Ceej, I haven't seen any Ultimate Editions from you guys yet! I wouldn't mind seeing your thoughts on a wishful-thinking DVD of your favorite non-Disney movie (even if it already has an excellent DVD).
I don't have much free time anymore, as I have been working a split-shift for a while now. If I were to do an ultimate dvd, I would want to take my time coming up with one, possibly several weeks. As a detailed oriented person, I hate doing anything halfway. So, I will get around to posting an ultimate dvd one day, but not anytime soon.

Hehe, I'm the same way too (which is why my Ultimates have become few and far between). Totally understandable.
