Tarantino is a fan of the old 70's martial art movies especially Jackie Chans, so there is no suprise there with Hero. Many Disney animators are big fan of Miyazake, some of them study his films.

Augh the Tarantino/Hero thing was brought up. (augh just because this makes me reply everytime I see it)

Without Tarantino's name on Hero I don't think it would have done as well as it did... which is a shame. It's a shame his name was so large on the cover while the director's should have been larger. I couldn't believe how many people I have come across that believes it is a Tarantino movie. He presents the movie to North American audiences but so many nincompoop's believe he made the movie.

Back to Miyazaki... I still haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle since it's not playing in my area but I cna't wait to see it.

It's a shame (yes that word again) that more people won't go and see his movies. I have friends who won't see them because they are too thought provoking and they are foreign and won't read subtitles. I told them that you can watch it dubbed but they make new excuses.
Yeah as I have said before I like my friends but most of them go for sappy mindless drivel... okay maybe not that bad... they go for the entertaining movies with little thought which isn't bad but come on, go for some movies with a little more thinking involved sometimes!

I just rented Steamboy and it was so awsome! I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to watch it regardless if you're into anime or not. I just wish I could've seen it in the theater with the big screen.

i thought i saw on somewhere in the forum that there was going to be a 2 disc release for totoro, but now i cant find the thread anywhere...did i jsut dream it?

Wow, a 4-disc set. Ghibli sure knows how to treat their films right, even if one of the discs will be superfluous for many viewers.

It's too bad those of us in North America will probably get one of Disney's typical Ghibli DVDs; which don't even justify the second disc for the content they have. Spirited Away has been the only exception to that so far.

I'm going to go ahead and wait it out until next year. Hopefully my money will help boost Howl's Moving Castle's Oscar campaign. What is so startling is that Madagascar continue to make money. I fear that Mr. Miyazaki may actually loose his slot to Dreamworks this year. Why? Well, it's not like they owe him. He's already won, so theoretically he never needs to get nominated again. Also, most directors nominated in the Animated Feature category will probably never get nominated again, because American animated directors don't work exclusively in animation. I think the Academy may be resistant to nominated someone twice in three years. Also, The Corpse Bride and The Wallace and Grommitt Movie seemed to have a reserved seat, on account of the Academy never having nominated claymation or stop-motion before. Thirdly, we haven't even seen Chicken Little! Unfortunately, it's becoming very apparant that Howl's Moving Castle will get snubbed!

I've preordered the Ghibli ga Ippai Short Short DVD along with the regular Howl 2-disc including the filmcell. When these arrive, my Ghibli collection will finally be as complete as it possibly can!

The animation was really quite stunning - I think you are judging the animation solely on how the characters were animated. The movie was a feast for the eyes, while the story was okay. The Polar Express is a good animated film, while Shark Tale was utter crap. (Madagascar looks a lot better than Shark Tale, but I'm not holding my breath.)

I really hope Miyazaki gets nominated again for Howl's Moving Castle - the trailers look promising, and it's going to be shown October or November in my area. (I think Wallace & Gromit, Madagascar, and Howl's Moving Castle will be nominated for Best Animated Film.)

Though this fall is already packed as hell, I really do wish that the Howl DVD was coming sooner than spring 2006. It is by far the best film I have seen all year, and I can't wait to own it.. Still, I can only play Region 1 discs on account of the fact that I don't have a region-free player, so I will regrettably end up having to wait. Hopefully it will have a quality release to rival or exceed Spirited Away's exellent disc.

I think it's a shoe-in for the Oscar, with Corpse Bride being its main competition if it has any at all.

The last week Howl's went up 10 theaters to 35 across the U.S. Maybe it will continue to go up to about 200 in time for Oscar time. Hopefully something like that will happen.

If Madagascar or Chicken Little (sorry, but dosn't look shattering) make it and one of the above dosn't, it will show you something is wrong.

Hopefully you're right! I actually had it in the local theatre and intended to see it...then it seemed like it disappeared the next week! Made me wanna cry

I really want to get that film clip but I'm not sure if the extras on that 4 disc Howl set will have subtitles. There is also a lot of other stuff I want to get in November Looney Tunes Gold collection, Harold Lyod Collection, Wizard of Oz, Huckleberry Hound collection, Yogi Bear Collection and Disney Treasures.

I may just end up waiting for the region 1 release. Ghost in the Shell Innocence should've been nominated instead of Shark Tales. I highly doubt Madagascar is going to get a nomination this year. The film critics don't really like it. I'm guessing Chicken Little, Corpse Bride and Howl will get the nominations.

What a beautiful ad! I'm sure any voter who hasn't seen it will after looking at this enticing ad. It makes me want to see it again! Anyway, I'm glad there focusing on the score, but in a way, I think that's a misdirected step. First of all, Buena Vista needs to realize that they are in an uphill climb for a Best Animated Feature nomination. There's way too much competition to ensure an indie gym gets in this year. Second, the music branch is highly familial. They don't generally give nominations to new composers, or composers who do work for small, crafty films, or composers in general who haven't been nominated before, unless the music is coming from a huge Oscar-bait Best Picture candidate. I would love to see Joe get in, but I highly doubt it. You never know, there could always be a change of heart.
