To be fair, it was the international market that preferred The Croods over Wreck-It Ralph. In the US, WIR was slightly more successful.

Don't judge the film based on the trailers since I'm assuming that you didn't watch the film. Disney frequently puts out lousy trailers as well. The movie did have reasonable positive critical reception and Dreamworks does have a good recent track record.

I didn't have any interest in The Croods and didn't expect to like it. Rey took me and we both loved the film; it had some great emotional moments and wasn't a chocked-full pop culture-fest like everyone assumes of Dreamworks. Not sure if I prefer it over Wreck-It-Ralph though as I love that one too; they just happen to be two very different family-friendly animated films in competition against one another and I'm glad to have seen both.

Thanks for sharing Sotiris. Lovely to see.
Let's hope you'll be able to share Frozen's pencil tests when Disney's nazi marketing department has moved on to lynching everyone leaking Big Hero 6 artwork.
Til then, you should know all your hard work does not go unnoticed around here!!

Also, did you see that artist's Tangled pencil test? That was from an earlier version of the film with a character I'd never heard of.
Fascinating!

Nice catch. I hadn't noticed that. Yep, it's from Glen Keane's version of Rapunzel. Apparently his name is Grifol. He was supposed to be a villain. I remember Jin Kim had posted some
concept art of him.

I'm enjoying the comments from those that don't understand how one of the audio clips was pulled from Step Brothers.

Good on Americans for preferring the better movie though.

True but trailers are meant to be
designed to make you want to go see the movie. That's what they're made for. Not make you want to run away in the other direction !!!
And yeah I don't really care too much about positive critical reception because everybody does that for the Shrek series.

So, I went to the Disney Store and got a great big mug of Ralph (their usual) and a small Vanellope one for my mom.
I´m pissed I didn´t went the movie was in theaters since I loved it and could have found merchandise from it.
Still, I wanted to mention how they´re cleaning that merchandise. And of the the things they´re basically giving away are the plush toys for the Sugar Rush racers. Very cute ones that even smell like their names.
If I recall they´re for sale like for $3 each. And still they have lots of them there and I couldn´t bring myself to buy a single one.
Why? Because you don´t know these characters at all! The only screen time they had in the movie was when they met Vanellope outside the race and at the end of the movie. Very briefly.
So, how come Disney expected to make a profit around them?
They should had focused on a few and made them stand out.
Why would anyone get these plush toys is beyond me.

I have seen this movie two times in theatres and it got better with each viewing.
I really liked how Disney was creative with the animation (especially with the candies) and the art direction by Mike Gabriel and Ian Gooding was done very well with many sorts of different worlds (with Sugar Rush being the predictable favorite).
The characters were enjoyable and I never expected Sarah Silverman to be a good voice actress for Vanellope. That scene where Ralph smashes Vanellope's cart was the one that sold me when it comes to her character.
King Candy/Turbo was an enjoyable villain even though he's no where near as creepy as Mother Gothel is. But the line: "Let's watch her die together shall we?" made me shiver in a good way.
If there is one element that I disliked was Gene... I have no words for him really.. sheesh I can't stand him.
Wreck It Ralph was a very enjoyable movie and a sign that Disney was getting better at their CG movies. It was a shame that it lost the award to Brave (which was okay).

That is kind of the point isn't it? Not just with Gene but with the Nicelanders. What ironic names they have.

Hmm maybe because it looks way too nightmare fuel-ish for a modern day Disney movie ?
Even during the 90's doubt that would be okay to put in a child's movie. Just a opinion though.

That thing would work well in Epic Mickey though!
The fact that they cancelled those games...
