Just to reply to a few issues...

Somebody in the thread said that Dumbo wasn't available on DVD. Actually, it will be available on both DVD and Blu Ray, but as a Special Edition for both:

Fantasia will also be released on Blu Ray on March 2nd according to Amazon.co.uk - I contacted them directly, and they said thats the date there supplier had. This has also, not coincidentally, been updated on Wikipedia which I'm surprised so few people have checked.

This makes perfect sense on the contrary to other views expressed on this thread. B and The Beast is released in October on both standard and 3D formats. Since the film is also being re-released in the cinemas in February, it would be far far too early to release the film again just after its been theatrically re-released. DVDs/Blu rays are never released in tandem with a film in the cinema.

The idea of having two Diamond Edition releases per year is that they can be released at separate times of the year - not back to back.

Also, in response to the author who asked whether Fantasia is coming on DVD, the trailer only states 'Diamond Editions' so far. The Diamond series, according to Disneys press release, is Blu Ray only - the DVD's, however, are released under a different title.

Use the recent 'Snow White' release as an example. The 'Diamond' was the Blu-Ray, and the DVD was the 'Platinum'. Again, this makes sense because while they are both part of Disneys "12 treasured films" to be re-released, their needs to be a way of separating this DVD away from the Special Editions. Because the only difference actual is the format of the product itself; Blu Ray or DVD.

This is why non-Diamond films are simply 'Special Editions', and they keep this title for both blu ray and DVD.

When Snow White was marketed, the adverts here in the UK made no mention of the Platinum release that was alongside the Diamond. So it will most likely be the usual format - the Blu Ray will have a 3 disc combi (Blu Ray+DVD+extras disc), while the standard DVD version will have just the two discs.

I see no reason why Disney would not release DVD versions of this film. As much as I love blu-ray, there are far too many petty geeks who are already classing DVD's as inferior or out of date, not realising what a lucky age we live in to have DVD's alone. Disney wouldn't just single out "Fantasia" when there are 10 more Diamond Editions to come.

Anyway, hope that makes sense!

I agree. Disney isn't stupid. DVD's are still selling better than Blu's and Disney knows it. Disney loves money . Therefore, Fantasia will be released on both formats.

No its not. The only benefits are the increases in picture quality, audio quality, and some interactive features (some online). Its still a disc that come with the same advantages that the DVD brought and you can't make a whole argument on pixels. The benefit from VHS to DVD was increased picture quality, audio quality, bonus features, no more fading tape (lasts forever), no longer a big bulky tape but a nice small disc, no more rewinding a tape when your done (or fast-forwarding to get to a scene) but now you get scene selection, and you could fit long movies on one disc (no more two tape sets like Pearl Harbor and Titanic taking up so much room). I own Blu-ray and understand the benefits just fine but there is no way it hell its as big a leap. I think scene selection and lack of fading tape was so much a breakthrough that nothing on Blu-ray can be considered as much a leap as those alone.

I am a huge Blu-Ray supported, but please guys can we stop making this a Blu-Ray Vs. DVD topic!!! Who care is it comes on both!! I just want Fantasia to come out in March, along with Dumbo, and the Toy Story movies!!

Speaking of Blu-ray, press conferences are happening like crazy at CES right now announcing all kinds of 3D capable Blu-ray players and TVs. Dreamworks is partnering up with Samsung to giveaway 3D copies of Monsters vs Aliens with their TVs. Unfortunately in all this excitement, not one word from Disney. I'm sure they'll talk about a 3D Alice in Wonderland release and Beauty and the Beasts 3D theatrical release (maybe some promotions of their own with Panasonic) but we all really want to know these release dates. An explanation of Fantasia World, something. They just have to hold out until CES officially begins.

Why can't they let something slip

So how do these 3D TVs work? Still with polarized glasses like the ones in the theaters?

Yup that's exactly how they work. I saw a clip online, and the glasses look identical to the ones you would use at a 3D movie (not the red/blue ones. I don't think I've seen those for a while). It's basically the same technology they use at 3D movies.

2 things:

1. Are we really that entertainment starved that we need to resort to wearing 3D glasses in our own homes?

2. Is there anyone from this site who is attending CES this year? I would love to have some real-time updates. I've been amazed at the lack of upcoming Disney DVD releases on Amazon.com and I now realize that they're going to be announcing something soon and wanna know now, darn it!

The glasses don't sound bad, but it sounds like we'll have to get used to them...

I know I am going off topic, but I truely believe that 3D TVs will be a BIG FLOP!! Back to TOPIC!! When will Disney release some information on all their movie releases for 2010?

Actually that's not how it works. It uses active shutter technology which blocks off sight to one eye at a time back and forth so fast that you cannot tell. the glasses are electronic. they will create the sense of depth and therefore you get the 3D visuals. if they were just like that then there would be no reason for the televisions to be any different.

Yah I know I saw that once I read the article, but when I watched a video clip prior to the article, they claimed it was the same as the movie theatres, but I guess they meant the dual images was the same. So sorry for the confusion. I do think that 3d Tv's will be a flop. But back to the topic, is there going to be a specific time that Disney will release all their information? I looked on the CES website and I couldn't find a Disney session...

Yeah I know! I was checking a few days ago also. This is getting on my nerves on how they are doing this! They are starting the decade off really bad if you ask me! I am one confused Disney movie consumer in decade!! LOL

"And Walt Disney Studios (that studio I mentioned yesterday) officially announced their first Blu-ray 3D titles, including Disney's A Christmas Carol and a special 3D Showcase Disc. A Christmas Carol will be available in the 4th quarter, while the 3D Showcase Disc is now available to manufacturers to enclose with their Blu-ray 3D players. The disc includes (but is not limited to), "Disney's 1953 animated short Working for Peanuts, promotional trailers of upcoming 3D-enabled Blu-ray releases like Disney's A Christmas Carol, Alice in Wonderland and Disney-Pixar's Toy Story 3 plus original content created exclusively for this disc."

Nothing about Dumbo, or Diamond Editions so far....

Okay....in order to watch 3D will I have to buy a whole new tv? or will my Pioneer HDTV 60 inch be good enough? and I have PS3 so i'll get the firmware update....and the glasses if I don't have to get a new TV.....So will I need to get a whole new TV or is my current Tv good enough

Actually, Blu-ray has a much better market share now than DVD did 10 years ago.

3D TV will be kinda cool, but will probably flop due to most consumers not wanting to replace their current sets.

I don't know why all these companies are trying to make 3D TV next generation TV!? I think it is SO stupid if you ask me!! I will buy an "regular LCD TV" before I even think about going 3D! All these 3D TVs will be in the market for a long time, and the big corporations will realize they really messed up!! We don't need 3D! I am not supporting this non-sense!!

Add me to the I WILL NOT SUPPORT 3D TVs LIST!!!
