Saw Christmas Carol at my favorite theater, The Alamo Drafthouse (where you get to order dinner as you watch) in Austin this past Saturday! My family loved the film! It was a bit of a sensory overload to see a 3D film and have dinner at the same time, ha, but here are my feelings...

Overall, I enjoyed it a lot, and the 3D was the best I've seen so far outside of Disney World (the new Toy Story 3 trailer was awesome too!). However, I can easily be nit-picky. The film at times didn't seem to know if it wanted to be humorous or not, as sometimes it was super by the book and stiff. While Scrooge and the ghosts looked fantastic, many other characters did not, some having that crappy "humans from Shrek" look. I still do not want to see the humans in a Roger Rabbit sequel done like this. Also, Bob Cratchit's big head freaked me out, but I loved his bit of narration to the camera in the end. Like I said, overall I liked it a lot.

I know this is a little off topic...but

I just thought of someone who would fit the perfect scrooge for a new live action version of A Christmas Carol that could be made someday in the future.....

Bill Maher should be scrooge in live action version of A christmas Carol...

Though then again...that might be considered the mother of all type casting roles in history if that were to happen :P

Yeah, at first I didn't like his design, but it grew on me, I guess.

Huh... I thought they would wait till November 2010 to release the film on video, considering that's how holiday films are handled.

Oy. What a terrible cover! Why couldn't they use something that really captured the magic of the film? Yes, that scene did take my breath away, but that still is not particularly majestic or Christmas-y.

My guess would be that they might release it for rental before they release it for general purchase. I mean, waiting an entire year to see the movie again is just harsh, I can't wait to watch it again! So, maybe they're giving people a way to see the movie again, even if they can't own it until next Christmas. That's just a guess, since Pick specifically said that that hideous version is a "rental edition." Perhaps it's completely different from the final DVD. Who knows? I certainly hope so. (Although it would be great to get this DVD sooner than November!)

Hey, Margos! Like you, I cannot wait to see it again! My favorite movie from 2009, it really captures both the magic of the book and Christmas.
From what I understood, this edition will be released this soon only for rental... I believe that the general release will happen only on november/december... and I just can't wait to own it, specially in BD. But God, I hope the general release have a better coverart. This one doesn't represent the movie AT ALL!
When I get some more info, I'll be sure to post it here!

Yes, I just remembered. If I am not mistaken, Disney WILL release it in November/December, just in time for the release of the 3D ready Hi-Def TVs. I recall that when the announcement was made it was confirmed that Disney would include a Blu-Ray featuring 3D trailers for A Christmas Carol and other films.

The Norwegian releasedate for A Christmas Carol is in March, so I hope that stores will push the Blu-ray/DVD-sale in November/December. I can't imagine that that many people will want to buy a Christmas-themed movie now when it is spring.

I'm subcribed to The Dickensian (a magazine for Dickens-lovers) and in the latest issue there was a favourable review of Zemeckis' movie adaptation. If UD'rs are interested to read It may retype it here or scan the article and place a link on this forum.
Let's hear it from a real fan!

I would love to be able to pre-order this soon on Amazon. For those of you more in the know about DVD release schedules - any guess on when the pre-order will be available for this?

I know it's not going to be released until around Christmas. I'm just wondering about the pre-order.

I wish I could see it in 3D again in theaters. :(

An insert in the Alice in Wonderland Blu-ray confirms an 11/14 release date for a Christmas Carol.

Since they are going to start including 3D Blu-Rays, I wonder what the DMR point value will be?

Couldn't they just have both 3D and 2D on the same discs, ala Coraline? I mean, it is Blu-ray, there's plenty of free space. I believe Coraline is longer than A Christmas Carol, so that really wouldn't be an issue, right?

But it isn't the red/blue 3D like Coraline.
This is the real, genuine 3D (with polarized glasses and such, like in theaters) that works only with the very newly released 3D TVs.

I much prefer the artwork for the single disc, so I'll be nabbing that. If, in the very distant future, I get a 3-D TV and player, I'll get the 3-D version and stick the single disc art over it. By the time I make the switch, this title will probably be dirt cheap, anyway.
