Watched Beaver Valley off my True Life Adventures DVD yesterday. It was pretty interesting.

It's Tuesday and "House" had two reruns on so we watched American Idol 2006 on Fox Reality TV. They are down to the Top Five, tonight will be the results show, this is where we say goodbye to Paris "Lttle Miss P".

A few days ago I watched "The Hardy Boys" from the Mickey Mouse Club. I'm not sure which episode, but for some reason I've begun to watch different Christmas presents.

Doctor Who: The Runaway Bride
Well, this was disappointing. Even the average rating on WHO fan sites lists it as "average" on the whole. Such a shame, as I was obviously expecting more. The story was fine, you can't expect much for Christmas Day viewing really - something as complex as The Girl in the Fireplace or even Doomsday would most likely confuse the turkey stuffed half-asleep general public. But I was expecting more laughs from Catherine Tate, who performed wonderfully with the comedy she did have ("I had a hangover" and "I was in Greece... scuba diving" when quizzed by The Doctor on her lack of knowledge of the Sycorax and Cybermen/Dalek invasions being my favourite) and of course the irony of flushing giant spiders down a giant plughole isn't lost on me either. And "Mr Saxon" was mentioned too, boding ill for the future!

6/10 - It must be said, the upcoming Sarah Jane Adventures, although being for kids, looks far superior.

Harry Hill's Christmas TV Burp
What is it about Harry Hill? Even without badger parades, savlon making him come over "all channel 4", his little brother Alan or Finsbury Park (his chief inventor) the guy is still one of the funniest men around. His talent for spotting the surreal is quite spectacular, and his TV Burp Xmas special didn't disappoint, as Harry cast a wry eye over this year's festive television. However, its a shame he's doing this, and not more of his excellent "Harry Hill Show". I also felt a bit left out with all the soap references (like I always do) being as I never watch soaps.

Jam and Jerusalem Xmas Special
Again, this was kicked hard by the critic of my parent's newspaper, describing the whole series as a disaster. Whatever. I must admit I didn't find this episode that "funny", but I don't really care. I just enjoy spending time with the characters and know that, in the end, the episode will finish with a "feel good" moment. Just like the appeal of lesser shows like Monarch of the Glen or Heartbeat. I feel J&J runs rings around other shows of its type and it would be a crime if its not allowed to continue.
8/10 - and sadly, the final episode, with no annoucement of a return made by the BBC continuity announcer at the end.

The Vicar of Dibley Xmas Special
I only caught the end of this, but it seemed to be back on form, after what I thought was a poor showing with it's last Xmas special. Nothing was particularly new or original, but it plays well enough. I do look forward to the concluding part tonight.

Little Britain Abroad - 1 & 2
Well, they keep churning out Little Britains, and they all stick to the same general formula. This was no exception, with even the relocation of the characters to overseas locations bringing little originality to the table. But, I did enjoy it, predicatable as most of it was. Stand out sketches involved Alice Beer as a holiday rep, Mr Mann looking for Pirate Memory games in Morocco, and (much as I hate to admit it) much of Lou and Andy's bits.

High School Musical
Yes, I've finally seen it, and can sum it up in one word. Superficial.
4/10 - and that's just for the staging of the musical numbers.

It's a big Doctor Who based day of TV today - The Sarah Jane Adventures is on in the late afternoon, followed by the final two episodes of Torchwood later at night.

The Sarah Jane Adventures

This was obviously aimed at the kids, but in a Demon Headmaster sort of way, so that everyone could find something to interest them. That said it wasn't perfect, but as a piece of children's drama I couldn't really fault it apart from it perhaps being a little slow. I crave 1 hour slots for Doctor Who, but I feel this could have benefited from a 45 minute slot like its parent show.

Loved the WHO references, lots more than in Torchwood - but there is obviously more crossover of the audience for Who and Sarah Jane. That said, a lot of the stuff, such as photos of Harry and the Brigadier (not to say obscure references like artron energy and 'narrow-hipped') wouldn't be spotted by any one other than dedicated fans.

I look forward to the series, which I'm sure to record. I wasn't so taken with Kelsey (but I suppose that was the point: "All ignorance and noise") so I hope she has a lesser role in the series, and I also look forward to the long proposed K-9 Adventures series falling flat on its face so we can have K-9 back where he belongs... with Sarah Jane!

8/10 Escapism for the kids, with plenty to amuse grown-ups.

Jennifer confirmed a couple of weeks ago on the Paul O' Grady Show that a second series has been commissioned and will begin filming sometime in the spring!
