Are you guys saying the bottom is a tin like WDT (Treasures) but the top is a hard plastic like a CD jewel case? Or is the top like an opague less brittle plastic like a black Aramay DVD case? I need to know what exactly the packaging is made of to decide whether or not to trust Amazon. Every tin I have ordered from Amazon arrives dented, so if this is another WDT type packaging, then I might as well see if I can find a brick and mortar store that sells them. Why couldn't they have just put these in a black Aramay case - I would have been perfectly happy with that.

When I was at Walmart they had 2 of the 4 True-Life Adventures. So maybe you could call your local walmart about this to see if they have some there. If your walmart does not have all of them I am sure they could special order them for you. Also Sams club might have them ( Sams club always has my Walt Disney Treasures at the lowest prices )

Where did you hear this from? That seems way low. It would be about one third of the other waves and I just can't see where 40,000 would be profitable enough.

I have been curious about this myself. Maybe this is not a limited edtion or if it is a limited edition maybe it's based on time and not numbers. I saw nothing that said this was a limited edtion. Also this is part of the Walt Disney's Legacy Collection and inside the package they had an advertisement of 3 more Legacy Collections and the only one that said it was limited was The Adventures of Oswald.

Maybe the Adventures of Oswald will be the only Disney's Legacy Collection that will be limited and all the others will keep going for a while. But I don't know. Also when I say maybe they others are not limited I don't really mean they will go on forever. It's hard to explain, but I guess I mean that Disney might plan on keeping this out for a while or something like that.

So, what was the deal with "Emperor Penguins?" Did it make it onto any of the sets? I'm assuming no, because I didn't see that title in any of the reviews, unless I missed it. Forgive me, because I haven't seen the true-life adventures in a long time, and I want all 4 of these sets but haven't had the chance to get them yet (getting the Treasures sets first), so I don't really know the details. If this program wasn't included, does anyone know the reason? Maybe it's not officially a "True-Life Adventure?" Or maybe it is just a short made from a section of one of the TLA films? Can anyone let me know the situation on this one? All I know is, it was included in an earlier announcement of the Legacy contents (I forget WHICH set), but doesn't seem to have ended up on any of the sets.

No and it's not an official TLA. It was, however, a theatrically-released live action short about wildlife from 1955. Many other productions of this kind (also not designated TLAs) did end up in the sets, so it seems an apt a home for the short on DVD as any. Not sure when else to expect it to turn up. No idea why it was dropped either.

Funny how we were the only place to report on "Emperor Penguins" being planned for inclusion and yet that news made its way all over the Internet (often being the only reference to this little-known film), with very few places actually giving us credit. Funny but not too surprising.

I bought volume 1 a couple days ago and the shorts were interesting. I was kind of disappointed by the whole lemming hoax though. It ruins the purpose of "True Life Adventures". My favorite so far is Beaver Valley.

I bought Volume 3 today. I did not get Volume 2 because the films on that one did not interest me. I do plan on buying them all at one point.

Volume 2 didn't interest me very much either, but I have to say that I couldn't take my eyes away from "The Living Desert" and I can't wait to dive into disc 2 tomorrow, so despite a lack of interest in subject matter, I'm really enjoying it.

I love these sets, but I hate, hate, hate the packaging! I don't mind the Treasures tins because I can put them in a drawer, but with these Legacy sets you can't see the titles on the spines and the packaging is awkward on my dvd shelves.

I have to say I also didn't think volume 2 look as exciting, perhaps it was the buffalo on the cover that made me feel that way , but I have to say it is far and away my outright favourite of all four! The two features The Living Desert and The Vanishing Prairie are definitely the two best True Life Adventure features in my opinion!

Anyway with a note to the color issues on volume one. I have to say that I thought that something was odd when the opening shot presents a red RKO logo and the writing is yellow rather than blue/green. During the actual feature, it's apparant that something is not quite right, but I don't think it's that distracting. There is in fact some clips of an unrestored version of Prowlers of the Everglades of Volume 4, where the color does look more correct, so it would seem this issue is real and is not just a figment of the imagination of some.

Three other things that have irritated me about these sets are:

On volume 2 Nature's Strangest Creatures looks awful, the color are faded and washed out and it's grain galore. I understand it's not technically a true life adventure, but it's only 15 minutes long, surely something could have been done!

First of all during the bonus features on volume 4, the fact that the final reel of Secrets of Life in cinemascope is mention numerous times. However the actual print of the film on the DVD is pan and scan. Could Disney not have given us the cinemascope footage even as a bonus feature?

Second issue with volume 4. The print of Adventure in Wildwood Heart is in black and white, yet when it is being discussed in the bonus features, the clip footage is in color, even a clip of the title card is color! Even if it is not available in its entirity in color, could they not have spliced in the available colore footage?

Oh and I'm still bitter that Emperor Penguins was not included!

ToyOtter love the coverart, I've already downloaded Volumes 1,2 and 4. I am having trouble getting volume 3 however, are you still working on that one?

Doesn't it say in the beginning that only the last reel was shot in cinemascope? And indeed, the very last minutes of the film are presented in letterbox format.

I agree completely. Your custom covers are gorgeous. Pity I already made my own ones, and don't feel like replacing those I didn't use any artwork from the original cases on the front cover, because I didn't really like the design and images they used. Instead, I scanned some pictures from my (quite old) True-Life books.

I thought the alternate artwork was good as well, but I think I like the tins better.

Yes I know it was only the last reel that was shot in cinemascope, but on the DVD the last few minutes and not in cinemascope, they are pan and scan!

I'm pretty sure the volcano sequence is letterboxed on the DVD I have. It's not anamorphic, but it's definately widescreen, not pan&scan.
