Oh thing though is I’m hoping positive reviews will help bring in some money in the box office even if it’s not a lot as the marketing took the saying “quantity over quality” by heart let’s be honest.

That clip made me smile. I've liked all the clips so far. I pre-ordered tickets for this Saturday; is anyone else seeing it this weekend?

I'm planning on catching it on Friday.

Haven't seen any of the clips, though. I generally like to walk in with as much of the menu fresh as possible.

Here are also a new featurette, the lyric video for the end credit song "Steal the Show" and the music video for the Chinese version of the song.

I'm glad it has gone up. Right now it has a 78%, which is not bad.
Farerb wrote: Sun May 28, 2023 2:16 pm I can't believe that Disney, in their hubris, decided to screen both Indiana Jones and Elemental at Cannes only to be crushed by critics. So humiliating.

I don't know what's gotten wrong but I think there might be some echo chamber at all the studios under Disney where people tell each other what they want to hear rather than give the hard and honest truth in order to make the best possible movies. It's not surprising though, considering we live in the age of oversensitivity.
Yeah, screening them at Cannes was a really bad idea. I've heard Disney tests its films internally with employees from other divisions and their families as public. Apparently, that way it's easier to avoid leaks, but a downside of that could be what you say. Perhaps their feedback isn't completely honest since they work for the company. It's also possible these are movies the general public finds more enjoyable than critics. The Flash, for instance, reportedly tested amazingly well, but its critic reviews aren't that strong. This could be a similar situation.

I wish I could, but I still have to wait a full month since the movie's released in my country. I'm excited for Elemental, but not as much as I usually am for a new Pixar film. The good thing about that is that the wait will be a bit easier for me this time. Have fun, blackcauldron85! :)

I like it. Not as much as the Raya song, but it's catchy!

Is this true?
I just saw a video on YouTube that said the water guy character has a sibling who’s referred to as “they”. The character is voiced by a Latina (“Latinx”, of course, actress) and has a girlfriend.

No comment....

I have a similar opinion. I don't think it's among the best end credit songs from the studio, but it's not bad.

What video was that? I haven't found anyone talking about this yet on YouTube. But yes, it's true. Disney didn't publicize this at all, because they were clearly afraid of the backlash. They didn't even do their usual pat-on-the-back press coverage about it like they did with Strange World or Lightyear. I believe this information got out from some tie-in storybooks. When more people find out, it will only give more credence to conservative audiences' belief that they can't trust Disney at all now and they'll start boycotting every new Disney project regardless if it appears to feature LGBT representation or not.

I’m back from the movies and Disney Pixar’s Elemental is a beautiful well-done story about stepping outside your comfort zone and seeing new things from an immigrants perspective. And while it’s not a full-on masterpiece. There are moments that’ll have an impact on you and will make you emotional once you leave the theater.

Just got back from my screening as well. I'll probably post more thoughts as they become more organized, but I also really enjoyed the film. Where I felt the trailers were marketing one film and the director statements were marketing another, the love story between Ember and Wade felt very naturally integrated with the main thread of Ember coming to terms with it meant to be a child of immigrants.

I also wasn't prepared for just how breathtaking some of the animation was. Like we got glimpses of some of the more kaleidoscopic set pieces in the trailers, but there were a lot of surprises left in store.

I kinda shared some of my conspiracy theories about Pixar films not getting as many points with critics these days, but I'll admit that news about it having some mixed reception at Cannes had me nervous. As did the somewhat bland end result of Peter Sohn's last film.

From the other side of it all, though, I can't really figure out what they were fixating on. Like, maybe not everyone will personally respond to it, but this was regular Pixar standard of writing and whatnot. I didn't read the actual responses (again, I very seldom read early reactions) but I also feel like if there were actual story points that were legitimately underperforming, I would be able to parse them out more easily and at least guess at what they were taking issue with, which I can't. "The Good Dinosaur" had easily identified story issues. "Elemental" had a much stronger footing.

And now I am left wondering whether film critics are actually developing a bias against Pixar animation ...

Anyways, this movie gets the thumbs up from me.

Elemental got an "A" CinemaScore, higher than the "B" CinemaScore that The Flash got.

Looks like Elemental could pull an upset #1 next weekend in its second weekend.

Once again, Disney Marketing did not do a film justice. This was amazing. I loved this so much. Wade and his family made me so happy. I loved the relationships, the love story and the familial relationships. And the film is visually stunning. Some truly beautiful moments.

The Up short was really funny.

$29.5M 3-day opening actually. And there’s a chance it’ll be $30M in the actuals when they come out tomorrow or Tuesday.
