Thank you for the update info bruno_wbt.

I also think that it´s a shame that they dont have the original demos in front of the new recordings in the Lost Chords.
But I also understand that since this is so old, there can be some damage to the demos, if they have them in whole at all in the archives. If they put them on the CD in that state, maybe people would shout about less quality than usual, so in this case I give them right in their descision.

After some thought, I think its rather odd that they don´t add Jiminy Crickett´s songs from FUN AND FANCY FREE on this CD, since we get songs from the I´M NO FOOL SERIES. Those songs should have been a nice adding, that could have compensated for the missing original demos in The Lost Chord section. And they are not on CD before, I think!

Just some random thoughts.

I'm a wee bit behind on these - I still need to pick up Mary Poppins, The Lion King, and Fantasia - but considering that the first disc of this is just the same soundtrack we've had for years without vocals on Little Wooden Head, and I'm not really thrilled about the second disc, I may just pass this one up. I've got the UK import from several years ago that has the cover art from the 1993 Black Diamond VHS release, and that'll do for me. I'm also baffled that the song "Honest John" was left off, even though it was on the Platinum DVD/Blu.

I'm looking forward to some of the releases coming up this year, and I hope they continue into next year, if only because then we'll be sure to get one for Beauty And The Beast's 25th Anniversary, and I've always wanted an OST like this for my favorite Disney movie.

So far, I've gotten Sleeping Beauty and TLM, and I'm very happy with them...for the most part. I love the packaging, and for TLM, I love that we finally get a complete soundtrack. The editing problems don't bother me, even though I wish the one for the finale hadn't gotten past quality control and the one in POYW had been made more seamless. But I digress. My main nitpicks are what was left out of each one - TLM not only has some more demos, but I'd have loved for Pat's early vocal take of Poor Unfortunate Souls from the Platinum/Diamond editions to be included. As for SB, I was disappointed that only two of the demos and deleted songs from the Platinum Edition were included, especially since none of them resurfaced on the Diamond Edition BD. I'm still happy to have these - although there wasn't much reason for me to upgrade SB since I had the 1996 CD, SB's a major fave so I was happy to get this one. As for TLM, I own the 1989 CD but this was a no-brainer. Complete or near-complete film OST vs. the unfortunate truncated version that basically followed the general formula for animated movie OSTs that lasted for years? Yup, I'll upgrade.

As for the ones I don't have yet, I have things I wish had happened but they won't keep me from buying them eventually. I don't see why disc 2 of the 40th anniversary edition had to be recycled too when that third disc could have held the original LP version of the soundtrack, which I believe has yet to be officially released on CD, plus any early work in progress songs from those story meetings. I've never quite found myself listening to that disc a second time like I have the beautifully remastered soundtrack disc. For TLK, the most glaring omission, and it's been left off the Platinum and Diamond Edition releases AND this CD, is the early version of Can You Feel The Love Tonight which was on the deluxe laserdisc and a snippet of it even appeared in a trailer that was included on several 1994 VHS releases, including The Fox And The Hound. I still want both releases, however. Mary Poppins is a fave so I'm happy to replace my 40th anniversary 2-CD set with this one, and I don't have any release of TLK on CD, so having a complete or near-complete soundtrack of the movie will be great.

Fantasia seems to be the only one I have no quibbles with. While Peter And The Wolf feels random, I like the idea that it has some of those storyteller albums, plus both the 1940 and 1982 soundtracks in one set AND Claire de Lune. I don't own any CD of Fantasia, so if I'm gonna buy one, it should be the best.

I may get to the rest of those scheduled eventually, but other than Pocahontas and The Aristocats, I see the others as "I'll get to them eventually," with Cinderella possibly being top priority on that list.

I really hope they extend this series over a few more years. I'd like to see anniversary editions for Alice, B&TB, Bedknobs And Broomsticks, Fox & The Hound, 101 Dalmatians, Hunchback, and Dumbo next year, plus ones for Snow White, Aladdin, Bambi, The Jungle Book, The Rescuers, Pete's Dragon, and Hercules in 2017. 2018 could bring Mulan, Oliver & Company, Robin Hood, and Peter Pan.

Given that The Little Mermaid didn't include "Silence is Golden" and that Sleeping Beauty didn't include "Holiday," it comes as no surprise now that Pinocchio doesn't include the "Honest John" deleted song that appeared on the Platinum. I wonder if there's some internal rights issues that only allowed those songs to make appearances on DVD/Blu-Ray, but not on audio CD.

Also, I'm surprised they didn't include a bonus "Jiminy Cricket" track for "I'm A Happy Go Lucky Fellow," a song written for Pinocchio but ultimately used in Fun and Fancy Free.

The cynic in me believes Disney only releases part of what's in their vaults so that they can rerelease these soundtracks someday with "newly discovered bonus features" instead of putting everything they've got in order to make a "complete" edition of a particular film's audio treasures. There is also so much ancillary audio material pertaining to each film (alternate takes/storyteller album material/non soundtrack recordings of scores/cut songs/demos/song covers by other artists/theme park versions of film songs, etc.) that could be released to give each film the deluxe treatment it deserves. Frankly, I don't think Disney gives a rat's ass about its "legacy" today especially if there's little $$$ to be made.
I really admire how Turner released its classic MGM and other studios soundtracks on CD. Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, the Rooney/Garland box set, Singin' in the Rain, Astaire & Rogers films, and many others were true collectors' items.

More like "are" true collector's items - most of them are out of print now, at least the best versions, and fetch hefty prices online at times. I'm very lucky to have gotten the 2-CD Oz set when it was in print, and I was lucky a few years back to find the 2-CD GWTW set for $20 used - it's usually $40-$50+ used.

I notice that Barnes & Noble has a stand for these releases. The Lion King and Sleeping Beauty are available for $20, while Fantasia is an extra $10, and right now, B&N has a buy 1, get 1 half-off sale for their CDs, as well as DVDs and Blus.

More like "are"
I think we got this backwards here. :P

It is a shame these albums are just those little steps from really being "complete," but I agree with carolinakid that they most likely do that on purpose for the sake of future products. They do the same with their film releases, imo. For me personally, I can still justify the purchases though since I don't own CD versions of most of the soundtracks. (That, and I can usually find most of the missing things in other ways.) There's a (slim) possibility "Little Wooden Head" might have the vocals, just unlisted. They have had little editing mistakes before.

Any news on Toy Story?
I don't know what to expect of this one, since most of the score is already out there and I don't think there are this much of demos to make it worhty.

Stitch Kingdom has just reported from Disney Music Emporium that Toy Story has been delayed, if not cancelled from the line.

Maybe that was not such a big surprise after all....
I mean, since the disappointment with the recent Pinocchio release (with such a silly little inclusion of bonuses) the news spread fast that there is so little of new or updated bonus material on these releases, so maybe Walt Disney Records reconsider the line a little.
I personally, don´t think Toy Story was really proper for the line anyhow, so I hope that they take that title away and add another one, more worth it all - where they can add more bonuses.
Or...the line is simply going too downhill in the selling department...but I hope not....I´m still looking forward to Aristocats and Cinderella, which earlier had Lost Chords released as download-files only, and which I now hope can be included on a real disc.
I hope not the whole line are in danger..... :x

I sure hope a certain deleted song and its reprise are included on the Pocahontas CD. :)

Why is Lady and the Tramp being released through Intrada? I wonder if it will still get a case similar to the others in the Legacy Collection? :?

I'm not disappointed to see Toy Story go; I like the films, but not for their music. I wish Pocahontas was still ahead of Cinderella, since I'm more excited for it. It feels like it wasn't too long ago I bought Cinderella's Lost Chords, so I hope there's more content otherwise I'll literally be buying for the artwork. Disneyland will probably join MP and Fantasia in the "will get when I can afford" category.

I received Pinocchio in the mail just yesterday, coincidentally. I definitely understand the complaints, but for me it's nice to have the soundtrack for the first time and with such a nice case, too.

I hope this shuffling isn't a sign the line is doing poorly. I hope they don't discontinue it, I bought all the releases last year. I'm trying to spend less this year, so I haven't picked up Fantasia or Pinocchio but I intend to along with the other titles. I didn't own any Disney soundtracks before (save for BATB) so this line has been a great opportunity to fill in the gaps with some of the studio's best.

I have a feeling that that's it for the line.

I think it's over after the announced releases.

I think it's too early to jump to doom and gloom conclusions for the line. I'm sure it's not selling spectacularly, but I hardly doubt they ever really expected it to. I wouldn't be surprised if they're just switching things around to release things at times when they feel it is more strategically appropriate, to try and shoot for the best sales possible. If more of them were getting pushed back, then I'd agree that it could mean bad news - but some of them are being pushed *up*, so they're just switching things around. Maybe searching for the best way to release these, trying exclusives, etc.

That said - I think that if you're interested in these, now is the time to pick them up. They're doing this line right, it deserves success.

I mean, CDs are hardly hot sellers nowadays, so I don't know if Disney was expecting these to do gangbusters for them.

I do think that the next time I go to one of the parks and find these, I'll buy one or two. I actually almost bought the Lion King release while I was getting breakfast in the Writer's Shop at DHS this Sunday. Instead, I decided to save my money, but eh, I can afford it.
