We were talking about the last releases of each studio. Madagascar 3 is a 2012 movie, while all the examples of bad/ average Disney Classics you listed are at least 6 years old. That's an unfair comparison since the overall quality of the Disney animated features has increased drastically over the last couple of years (since Lasseter is in charge).

Your post did imply that audiences went to watch The Croods because of its quality.
Dreamworks' quality has been on an upswing for the most part, which is why I was not surprised by its success. Of course, RotG did badly, so no, it's not always an indicator of quality (although I would point out that people have in the past used financial success to say
Tangled is an inarguably "good" film. Just saying.).
Most people liked Tangled and Pixar films as well. Just go by your own opinion all the time, no need to defer to public opinion, financial success or critical reception to support your point when it suits you.
Considering Scamander was using Madagascar 3 as an example of a bad film because it is generally disliked, I did the same for Treasure Planet. I think of films in all 3 different ways--what I personally like, what the audiences obviously prefer, and what the online and/or critical opinion of the film is. That's hardly "when it suits [me]."
@Scamander: "Past few years" doesn't = just 2012 (which, btw, I found RotG a good film, personally). MTR and Chicken Little are not that long ago.

Ok, but then let's please not forget Shark Tale, Shrek 3+4, Over the Hedge, Flushed Away and Monsters vs. Aliens.
I like Treasure Planet btw. It's imho one of the better DACs of the last decade and definitely the best animated action-adventure film by Disney.

Or
Dinosaur/
Atlantis/TP&TF either.
I don't know much of anything about
Monsters vs. Aliens though. It seemed to have done around/above
Bolt, critically.

Monsters versus Aliens was received much worse than Bolt. 72 percent versus 88 percent on RT.
The Princess and the Frog was also much better received than those Dreamworks films Scamander mentioned.

I'm sure Dreamworks has more critically "bad" and "good" films since 2000, considering they've had a larger output than Disney.

Wreck-It Ralph -- (foreign: $281,800,00) $471,176,830
The Croods -- (foreign: $308,000,000) $471,025,000
The Croods has been out for only 6 weeks, while WIR has been out for 25 weeks! Hasn't been a good month for WDAS, Wreck-It Ralph has been outgrossed by the latest Dreamworks film in only a month in release, firing of long time 2D animators & another Frozen leak that they had to cover up. WDAS, while they are improving, still have a looong way to go to match Pixar/Dreamworks.
Completely ignoring the failure of Rise of the Guardians, the Dreamworks lay-offs and the fact that they have to share a schedule with Blue Sky Animation Studios now.
You're deluding yourself if you believe things are all rosy at DWAS. They're not. The success of The Croods is a sigh of relief rather than 'business as usual'... And right now, Croods is still not a lock for outgrossing Ralph at the domestic Box Office.
And why do you continue to bring up the lack of Frozen ads as something negative? Has Avatar taught us nothing?
If Guardians was a failure as you say, then so was Chicken Little, Robinsons & Bolt. Each of those films grossed just over $300mil worldwide. Plus, I didn't say anything about things being better at Dreamworks/BlueSky, i'm debating why their films along with Pixar continually outgross WDAS films on a yearly basis? Did you here what Fox chairman Jim Gianopulos pointed out at CinemaCon, the two most successful animated franchises of all-time, "Ice Age" and "Shrek," now reside under the same roof. Also the lack of Frozen ads is not negative as you say, it's the "leaks" & WDAS trying to cover them up that's negative! 2 major leaks in 3 months. The "fake" poster in early February & the Chris Buck trailer about a week ago. Disney has not offically released anything regarding Frozen since last December. May is here, I guarantee another Frozen leak will happen this month. Hopefully the day Disney officially releases something for Frozen is sooner rather than later.

You really do care too much about financial performance.

If this wasn't true, you would see more 2D animated films now.

Financial performance obviously is important, since it's the main reason Disney is only getting behind CG films from here on out. For that reason, it's interesting that even their CG output is almost nonstop outperformed by their competitors' CG films.

It's easy to explain:
-Disney's output from 2003-2007 - quality below average -> consumers loosing trust in Disney -> brand damage
-Bolt suffered because of the remaining brand damage and an overall not original story
-The last 4-5 years, people realized that the quality of the recent DACs has increased
-BÄM, Tangled -> Huge Success
-Wreck-it Ralph -> Shitty marketing in mainland Europe and other key markets -> disappointing worldwide box office results (though domestically it was a success)

The Croods worldwide boxoffice now stands at $517,943,000! Not only did it fly pass Wreck-It Ralph but is only about $20million away from passing Pixar's Brave's gross of $538,788,207

Matched both Brave & WIR entire boxoffice intake in less than 2 months! That's how you market/sell a film

I think that is a bit impossible, since he is not an Arcade game character. In the movie, we primarily saw characters who live in the arcade games, and Kingdom Hearts is a console game.
However. In that screenshot posted a couple pages back, there is a red character who reminds me of the old Mario, from when he fought against Donkey Kong Sr.
I had no idea Sora was in there! :O
The references in Wreck it Ralph aren't arcade-exclusive, remember that the sequel will probably feature console gaming.
Here's a list with cameos from the film.
http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Wreck-It_R ... _of_Cameos
A lot of the are from consoles (isn't Link from Legend of Zelda console only?)
It was tiny in a single shot, possibly not even him but of similar coloring.
Characters are geneerally arcade, but the references dont stop there. "Aerith lives" on one of the station walls.
As for the quality of dreamworks vs disney, i liked Rotg, shrek 4, Madagascar 3, and I liked MTR, Atlantis, Treasure Planet, and Bolt.
I loved Tangled and Patf and Pixar films, bar the last two.
And I LOVED WIR.
And my youtube app wont load the teat video.

error.

You know something? Part of me wonders what the movie would be like if part of it were CGI (mainly the real world and universe of the new games, such as Hero's Duty and Sugar Rush) while the other universes of the games were hand-drawn (ie: Pac-Man, Tapper's, Fix-It Felix). You know, for the sake of retro-ness.
I'm even wondering if the movie is getting brushed under the rug lately.

That could be because WIR isn't apart of a Disney franchise: Pixar/Princess/Marvel
Plus it's worldwide BO gross was $119mil less than Tangled. That's why I was hoping it would win the oscar for best animated film, something no WDAS film has done since Tarzan, but that went to Pixar again. Still i'm glad WIR isn't being overused, unlike most Disney franchises. I really enjoyed following this film months leading up to it's release, unlike this year's Frozen, which so far has been a nightmare! Also WIR will be in Disney Infinity, which means Disney hasen't complety forgotten it.

I know one guy from DeviantART expressed his concerns because he felt Bolt was being brushed under the rug. Honestly, I don't blame him.
