Agreed. I'm sorry. Again, I LOVE Brave, but if Brave wins the Oscar and beats the STRONGER nominees, I'm going to call foul play because I thought Frankenweenie, WIR, or Rise of the Guardians would have win.

No point for the award in 2013, Monsters U already won. I see now why Jeffrey Katzenberg was promoting Guardians for award attention last year. With Pixar's fix, you got to do ALL you can to try & compete! DIsney learned a long time ago about Pixar: If you can't beat'em, Buy'em!

@DisneyEra: That's very true. He shouldn't waste his time/money doing it, considering nothing's going to change; Pixar will continue getting the awards whether they deserve them or not.
PatrickvD wrote:But I think the rosy days are over for DWA. Rise of the Guardians indicates Dreamworks might not be able to keep their crew for much longer either.
Really? One film tells you that?
Original films don't do well at the international Box Office anymore. Brave, Guardians, Ralph all underperformed. The days of a sure-fire $500 million dollar hit like Shrek, Panda or Madagascar are over. Their next sequel isn't until spring 2014 and their stock has plummeted. It'll be very interesting to see if they can continue to have this great environment they've created.
Considering Guardians didn't do well in the US, I'd hardly use that as a barometer to tell if Dreamworks is unable to make an original film popular overseas.

It's just an awards show guys. So the voters have a difference in opinion, that's alright. For all we argue about these sort of things, they are pretty meaningless.

I'm not at all surprised that Pixar would win an award over better films.

Dreamworks has 3 original films due this year. The Croods will drop in March & will be the only major animated release until Blue Sky's Epic in late May. And has How to trailn your Dragon & The Lorax proved in previous years: March is a DAMN good month to release an animated film. Even better than November!

Oh we don't deny that voters do have opinions but in the case of the relationship between the award shows and Pixar, I have this to say: There is a difference between giving an award to a movie because of how good it is and giving it to a movie because "it was done by the same studio who made those other movies."

Perhaps they genuinely thought that Brave was the best animated movie of the year.

No, Because it was "PIXAR's" Brave. If Brave was done by Disney or Dreamworks, would it have still won? Not likely.

Sure, sure.

In the past three pages, people have accused DW of buying nominations and awards, but when it's Pixar--no, no, they genuinely deserved it (even though their film is generally regarded as the weakest of the nominees). Oh, please.

 As I said in a previous post, I see now why Jeffrey Katzenberg was trying to promote Guardians for awards. Going against Pixar during award season, you got to do everything you can just to have a chance.
The Golden Globes have been giving awards for best Animated Film since 2006. Pixar has won every year execpt for 2011, when Cars 2 lost to Tintin.

Actually, a thought occurred to me. The first Cars won Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature but it lost to Happy Feet at the Oscars. So maybe there's hoping that some other feature will win. But...what do I know?

The last few pages have been full of comments complaining about Pixar's victory. I'm really the only one arguing that perhaps the Globes thought they genuinely deserved it and I have never said anything about Dreamworks and buying awards.

I was thinking that some at Pixar thought that Wreck It Ralph probably should have won.I mean John Lassetor actually was a producer for the movie so I think he would have been hoping that either Brave or WIR won.

I agree with you. Brave was a very well-received film, after all, so it's not out of the question that the HFPA preferred it over the others. Wreck-It Ralph is my favourite animated film of the year, but I liked Brave a lot, too.

To be honest, I'm more insulted that Mark Andrews was the one accepting the award and not Brenda Chapman.

As far as Oscar Night having different results from the Globes, it's really looking like Paranorman might be the biggest non-Pixar contender seeing as it's racked up a pretty sizable collection of awards already.

Well, yeah, but.... :(

Ratatouille, WALL-E, Up and Toy Story 3 won both awards for animated features at the Golden Globes AND Oscars. So.... How do we know it's not going to happen again this year?

The past half-page. Much more anti-Dreamworks was going on, so no.

Brave was not badly received, but it was not nearly as well-received as most others that were nominated. To me, the idea that they "genuinely" felt anything towards Brave is a joke.
