I really enjoyed Funk! It was better than Theatricality, for sure. Even though Lea didn't get a song, there was much less Kurt (which makes me happy because I hated where that was going). The songs were pretty good and I feel much happier than I did after watching Funk than I did after watching Theatricality. I wish that Fox hadn't switched the episodes, though. I heard that some footage was cut from both Funk and Theatricality. Hopefully, on the Blu-ray/DVD, they put the episodes in the original order with the cut footage reinserted (though that probably won't happen, but I can dream). I can't wait for Regionals! Oh, and I hope that Quinn didn't hurt Beth with all the dancing that she was doing tonight. The centrifical force may have ruptured Beth's skull (and that would be bad).

From Fox's press release:
  • GLEE: The Complete First Season Blu-ray and DVD is fully loaded with exclusive bonus materials and extended episodes, a sing-along karaoke, a behind-the-scenes look at "The Power of Madonna" episode, Glee Makeovers, never-before-seen "Sue's Corners" and a dance tutorial titled "Staying in Step with Glee."
I think they switched "Theatricality" and "Funk" in order to promote "Theatricality" during May sweeps. It'll likely be in production order on the DVD (other shows that had their broadcast order messed up, but fixed on DVD include "Homicide: Life on the Street" and "Undeclared", off the top of my head). Hopefully with the extended episodes we'll see the additions of some of the deleted songs.

Honestly, I prefered "Theatricality" over "Funk" but the season finale is going to be amazing I'm sure.

"Funk" left me totally underwhelmed.

The Jessie/Rachel break-up thing didn't make too much sense to me. Shouldn't there have been an actual scene or something? I dunno... whatever.

Terri was completely useless this episode. If they are going down a path of her falling for Finn cause he reminders her of 16-year-old Will I'll gag. It's more contrived than the whole fake pregnancy. I really wish she'd get hit by a bus or something...

Hated the music this week. VA's "Another One Bites the Dust" was the only decent vocal this week. The justification in singing 'Loser" was really vauge... even though Puck got to sing it he sang it with Finn who I just don't like the voice of. Quinn once again put on a boring show (I hate her solos more than Finn's). Ugh, guess I'm not funky enough.

The Will/Sue thing was too hard for me to swallow. Sue had a lot of good jokes this week and I loved Will breaking the trophy, but the romance thing was just ridiculous.

Ah well, can't love em all can I?

"Journey" should be better, though I can see one plot device involving Regionals and Quinn's baby a mile away.

I also preferred "Theatricality" to "Funk" and compared to "Dream On", "Funk" really wasn't that impressive, but it still had it moments.

Looking forward to the season finale. It would be interesting if they lost at Regionals.

It's not like she would be brining them down by not being there, though... :p

Although Puck may.

By the way, Theatricality was MUCH better than Funk. Funk was too... boring? lol

"Funk" was awkward in places, though I think it has more to do with it being shuffled with "Theatricality" than the episode on its own. Narrative-wise, shifting "Theatricality" ahead of "Funk" changes the dynamics within the characters. In "Theatricality" we see them energized and determined to be better, thus why they spy on Vocal Adrenaline (they had no reason to before, but "Funk" gives them that competitive spirit). Having "Funk" follow it and seeing the quick downturn seems jarring. In addition, since Jesse's not in "Theatricality", and they don't question why he's not there, the sudden break-up and return to Vocal Adrenaline in "Funk" seems odd. So when judging "Funk", I tried to consider how it would affect the season if it were ahead of "Theatricality" as it should have been. And it makes a helluva lot more sense to be before "Theatricality" than after it.

Still, even though "Funk" works better before "Theatricality", it's a rather average episode. The Will/Sue stuff was more awkward than Puck/Mercedes, and "Loser" was another fantasy sequence that I could do without. I want to see how the Terri/Finn friendship develops, though they need to do a lot more to make her a character worth watching.

I've actually suspected they would lose ever since they won at...the first one (my memory... ). I don't know, it just seems too easy, happily ever after. And I don't think they won't to make the show end up that way.

Anyway, Funk was the first episode I was bored by. The Sue/Will stuff was hilarious though. Though the pacing was horrible (suddenly Jesse and Rachel had problems...?). And it makes complete sense now that you've suggested that "Theatricality" and "Funk" were probably switched. I know when "Theatricality" came on last week, I was like "Another Kurt-centric episode?! Are there no other characters on this show?!!!" I would've been spaced out better with "Funk" before it. Plus, there was no recognition of the Rachel mother storyline with the New Directions director. I wouldn't think that would've been slid right under the rug. Besides, it would've been better that she discovered their director was her mother right before the finale. I have a feeling she'll manipulate Rachel somehow, so that she won't be at the top of her game (and we know she's the only character that matters as far as the competitions go).

Oh, and Quinn/real-person-who-plays-her sounded horrible on those high notes. I had always said that I wanted to hear her sing more. Now I don't.

It's Faithfully, performed at Regionals (you know, the actual clip!). I just couldn't resist myself! Lea's voice makes the clouds part and heaven shine down on all of us. She is one spectacular lady! Oh, and Cory was good, too. Though he did sound a little weak at the very beginning (that's just my opinion). I've been watching it since last night and I really can't believe that it's been released. Watch it if you don't care because it is simply awesome. :D :pink: :D

I'm guessing she's replaced Emmy Rossum on your elevator list?

You still remember that?! Wow, I've been on here longer than I thought. Though Emmy was fantastic in The Phantom of the Opera, she hasn't done any other musical/public singing (that I'm aware of) in awhile (of course I haven't checked; terrible me!). I do get to see Lea Michele sing (usually) every single week and that makes me happy. I'm not sure if she's replaced Emmy, but she's definitely up there, neck and neck even. Now, if they got Emmy on Glee, I would probably have a heart attack...

Glee was pretty incredible tonight. It was very magical.

SPOILERS

I kinda figured that New Directions would lose but I wouldn't think that Vocal Adrenaline would win. Though it would be pretty cruel that Aural Intensity would just randomly show up and beat both New Directions and Vocal Adrenaline. I really liked how the birthing of Beth scene was incorporated with Bohemian Rhapsody. I thought that that was pretty creative. I also liked the Medley and I'm really happy that they took out the "badness" of Don't Stop Believin'. To Sir, With Love was also really nice (though I'm still confused as to why Quinn didn't sing and Santana did). Over the Rainbow, though different, was also a great song for Mr. Schue to sing to his glee club kids. It was very emotional (well, for the glee club and company--I didn't cry. Though I was happy, so I guess I was emotional). But, anywho, I was also really happy that Sue turned a leaf and actually got New Directions another year--even though they have to start all over again (but they will definitely place next year and go to State then Nationals). Overall, this was a great episode--probably one of the better of the back 9. Overall, I'm satisified with the back 9, even though there were some things that I wish didn't exactly happen, but there's nothing I can do about that. I can't wait for Season 2 and the Blu-ray of Season 1! I'm also really happy that they reairing the first season throughout the summer so I can have the experience of watching them "live" again. Season 2 is going to be awesome! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

What a night...

I'm glad New Directions didn't win and Vocal Adrenaline did, although I sort of predicted it, anyway. And I have a feeling VA won't even be big competition next year with both Shelby and Jesse gone.

I loved what they did with Bohemian Rhapsody and Quinn's birth scene. Fantastic!

Also, whilst I haven't seen the first half of season one, I wonder, if perhaps they've developed the character of Sue too much? I thought she was supposed to be this major hardass in the first half, but from what I've seen she's gotten progressively softer. I mean, that's great for the antagonist, but it should be a slow progression rather than the rapid one they've put the character through. They just need to make sure Sue retains her edge.

But then again, they brought her back from the YouTube "Physical" video (not the 2nd one with Olivia Newton-John) so I'd say they can bring her back from voting New Directions for first place.

So Shelby's adopts Quinn's baby. Well, technically the adoption process is much longer than that. But perhaps this will leave Idina open for guest appearances...?

And personally, I didn't care for "Over the Rainbow". I can't explain it... It was a good choice of song for that part of the show, however no cover of that song is ever going to do justice to the Judy Garland original, so at least for me and others, it's going to disappoint. I guess nitpicking, though...

Anyway, I'm also excited about Fox's Glee reruns, because as I've already mentioned, I didn't see the first half of season one so this will be my first opportunity to see them.

And I will so totally be buying the Complete Season One BD set and maybe the CDs...

Oh, and of course I'll be tuning in for season two!

CANNOT WAIT!!!

Season finale was fantastic. I had a few disappointments, but nothing too big. Issues I had:

The lack of Brittany zingers. A whole summer without funny new Brittany quotes. Also I really I wanted her to sing something by herself on the show (she does sing a couple lines on the CD version of "Don't Stop Believing, in fact everyone does, which is why I love it so much), but oh well. With her Regular status next season we're bound to get more Brittany.

The suspension of disbelief required to believe than Quinn made it to the hospital and gave birth to the baby during VA's set. Ah well, it was shot well.

Them not even placing. I didn't think they would win (My guess was Aural Intensity would win with New Directions coming in second), but I was hoping they'd at least beat VA and Rachel would get to laugh (and myabe throw an egg) in Jessie's face.

Very happy that Quinn and Puck didn't keep Beth. Shelby getting her was kinda strange (and happened really fast), but I'm happy we won't have a baby in the cast next season. Babies ruin good tv shows.

The music tonight was outstanding, though choppy. If you really want to hear it in all it's glory buy the Journey to Regionals CD.

Time to write up my 25 Favourite Songs of the Season list I promised for my facebook page....

GAH! Can it be September yet?

I loved the season finale a lot, but my favorite moment was Sue (not by title mentioning) referenced "Song of the South". MADE. MY. NIGHT!

Finale was so good and I'm glad they didn't win as it gives purpose for another season. I'm annoyed like everyone else that I have to wait until September to see it.

Favorite song was definitely "To Sir With Love".

AH! that was my favorite moment too lol!

Overall I think it was a good finale. I figured they wouldn't win due to the fact that if they did win they'd be making it to nationals, but this was the last episode... so yeah, no surprise there really. I didn't think that they'd not place at all though. I expected them to get second at least.

I don't think Sue's character is too developed really. If anything, Sue is the most complex character in the series. She overall wants the best for the students, but beyond that she wants the best for HER students. I feel like next season they could play on the huge rivalry between the clubs that is bound to happen. That's something I can personally relate to with my experiences in show choir versus my high school football team. Both were pretty successful and very popular, and although my show choir director and the football coach respected each other... they secretly hated each other lol.

I also share Widdi's disappointment in that lack of Brittany in this episode. She's such a funny character and definitely one of my favorites.

I was also expecting Curt to get some sort of solo at regionals, that was disappointing too.

Overall though, I'm happy and can't wait till next season!!!!!!

The finale was an awesome episode, thankfully since the last one basically sucked.

The whole birth scene with Quinn at the same time as Rachel watching Jesse sing with Vocal Adrenaline was filmed and edited very nicely.

And the ending with Idina was shocking!

I guess I'm in the minority that I found the finale pretty lackluster. It was all so saccharine and overdone. And I wish they'd made the music as good as it was at Sectionals (am I wrong--could be--or were all the songs in this episode autotuned? I don't know, I just thought they would sound better on the finale).

I hate to repeat what a lot of people have said (not here), but the second half of the season has been somewhat of a downgrade. I have enjoyed it from episode to episode, but the overall arc was horribly done. The finale was anticlimatic because there was no buildup. It just seemed to be a lot of "Hey, NPH, and there's Chenoweth, and that's Menzel, and--ooh--we love Madonna, and Sue doing ONJ's "Physical"? Awesome!" Also, many characters were introduced and not utilized properly (Jesses, Idina's character, Sue's 'nemesis') while many of the characters which were heavy in the first half seemed to completely disappear (Emma, the Coach, Quinn, Terri, etc.--although that last one was a relief).

Anyway, I think this might be a result of them achieving stardom so quickly, not knowing if the show would be popular, and also receiving so much criticism for the first half of the season (which likely influenced how they finished the rest of it). I think the lack of consistency will be fixed next season. They'll also be able to have their arcs completely planned out next time. I'm definitely not jumping ship from a show this entertaining--even if it has a few holes.

(I know it seems like I'm always negative about things. I'm not, it's just the good things are so obvious that it feels redundant to say "That was good," etc. all the time. :P )
