I agree........lets just be patient. I want to know the titles that will be released in the next wave as much as anyone but come on.....lets not resort to nagging! That would be ..... well..... a little creepy. Lets just be patient and enjoy the anticipation.

To comparision Warners annonced Chuck Jones Tom and Jerry for sale 23 June, in the end of Feburary start of March, so it is just ca 4 months so latest date to anonces somting would be in August, if 4 months are the minimum to get stuff out.

We're almost at the end of March. Any news about the rest of wave IX yet?

I just did a Google search to see if there was any news out there regarding wave 9, but nothing yet. I hope its still alive. I'm just wondering about the release date now, since the DVD of Snow White got pushed into November, I wonder if wave 9 will come out around the 11th of Nov like last year.

Once again, you fail to comprehend ... We've said over the last few posts that we do not expect to hear much before the summer months, perhaps as late as August as has been traditional with this series. We are currently only half way thru April.

Here's some news about Wave IX that can hopefully placate Barbossa until an official announcement:

-They will be two-disc DVD sets

-They will be produced in limited quantities

-They will include certificates of authenticity

-They will be packaged in tins

-They will feature introductions by Leonard Maltin

-They will be released in 2009

Has anyone heard any inside information or want to venture a semi-educated guess as to how Blu-Ray will be incorporated into Treasures?

With re-releases of old feature animations coming out on Blu-Ray would they possibly release both DVD and Blu-Ray, or, since they are numbered limited editions, will they may go another year or two until doing a clean break to 100% Blu-Ray when Disney thinks Blu-Ray players are common enough in homes?

I'm wondering if many of these old TV shows would even benefit from Blu-Ray since the quality isn't that great to begin with, but I suppose if they were shot in 35mm film, the resolution is still better than DVD.

I'm wondering if maybe in the future they will re-release old treasures on Blu-Ray and possibly just combine all three DVD discs to just one double Blu-Ray set? Probably not as they'd make more money selling three Blu-Ray sets than one and would avoid criticism that the compression was so large that the quality was no different than DVD if they tried to cram 6 DVD's onto 2 Blu-Rays.

I just can't imagine them never re-releasing them on Blu-Ray as these DVD tins in a few years will be like having material on VHS 8 years ago. It will go to the waste bin, replaced by a better format. Some can argue they will still have collectible value, but if that would be true then I think Disney VHS Platinum Editions would be selling on E-bay right now for $100 each instead of $3 each. Granted Treasures are much less limited production, they can still reproduce the same old junk (lithographs, buttons, etc.) to include with the Blu-Ray versions.

I bet when the re-release the material though, they will call it something other than Treasures as to not step on the toes of everyone with 30 tins sitting on their shelves.

I don't see the Treasures coming out on Blu-ray for a long time. It's a niche of a niche currently.

Walt Disney Treasures, especially the animated titles, are only niche by choice of the Walt Disney Company who choose not to market the material to the mainstream in terms of advertising or distribution. This series has never been sold the the mass market by design. They would prefer this stuff to die out so they can use reinvestment cash toward contemporary consumer lifestyle franchises. Most baby boomers who would care don't even know this series exists.

"Dr Syn" sold out it's artificially low run of 40,000 copies in a month with absolutely no chance that the general public would be aware of its existence. There is still demand for that title out there.

It doesn't really matter whatever the reason - the fact is virtually every Treasure's wave has had a lower print run than the last. It's not going to change now, and while Blu-ray is the secondary media choice over DVD, I can't see Disney supporting Treasures on Blu-ray - it's too much expense for too little payback.

I don't see a conspiracy though. Disney could easily not release the Treasures at all. In fact, I still doubt we'll see any this year. I know Zorro was "announced" but it could still come out in another form - after all Destino and Oswald was "announced" for continuing Legacy sets.

Well, point-in-fact, they can't be any more popular if there are no more copies to sell.

I'm not arguing with you (but to be fair, many Treasures tins have hung around on sites like Amazon for 1 or 2 years - hardly super popular).

But you're right. It's madness Disney can't sell flagship characters better. It's madness that internationally the Treasures are generally ignored (The Complete Goofy is only coming out in the UK THIS YEAR). It's madness that they're released around Xmas, but with little promotion (the last wave or so didn't even warrant a sneak-peek slot on any DVD as far as I recall - and they have sixty-gazillion of them on each DVD).

But like I say, Disney aren't going to suddenly up the print run for 2009 and Disney aren't likely to even consider making Blu-rays at this time.

To be fair, the last few sets have been TV-centric, and I think 40-50k copies of Annette and The Hardy Boys is about right. These Mickey Mouse Club serials and Wonderful World of Disney shows are inside pool even for Disney fans. 99% of the rest of the DVD buying market have never heard of them. Seriously, asking someone to blind buy at premium two disc prices a 50-year-old black and white TV serial aimed at young audiences -- that's asking a lot. It should be no surprise to anyone that as the series became more and more TV-focused, the print runs fell lower and lower, too.

Zorro will be popular, a second set of rarities containing the full version of "It's Tough to Be a Bird" would also move well. I can only hope that the People and Places series will come this wave and possibly next. Then you've got rare live-action shorts like "Ice Breakers of the North Atlantic" and "Dad Can I Borrow the Car?"

But I think the focus of the series should always include one "blockbuster" set and then two of the more "inside pool" sets, as the one helps move the other two. Maltin seems hell-bent on getting the MMC serials he grew up with released onto DVD, and that's fine, but attention should be paid on including something that appeals to a more wide audience. The series has suffered of late, I think, because of a lack of a blockbuster title that would excite Disney fans and help sell the other two. Having said that, it is clear Disney dropped the ball on "Dr. Syn" - they clearly misjudged the popularity of that character.

I just think that the Donalds vol 3 and vol 4 should have got more tins probably best known titles in wave 7 and 8.

That's interesting, since those are already available through DMC & DMR. And look at the price tags. Yes, I know they're TV season sets, and that price tag isn't outrageous for those, but for Treasures?!? Really? What a strange wave. Could this be the end for the Treasures? Or are they just spending time restoring the educational shorts and a Ludwig Von Drake set? One can hope...

First time I won't be buying any Treasures this year if Zorro is all they're putting out.
