Davros Box Set = £100!
http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/3451843/ ... 9d94b2cf5d
8 Discs - Could it be?
Genesis of the Daleks (2)
Destiny of the Daleks (2)
Resurrection of the Daleks (1)
Revelation of the Daleks (1)
Rememberance of the Daleks (1)
Bonus Disc? (1)
Seems too expensive for me. I guess I'll have to fold and just get the stand-alone Destiny release.

This year's "Children in Need" special (to be aired in November) will be...
A multi-Doctor mini-episode. Classic Who meets new Who as David Tennant the 10th Doctor meets Peter Davison the 5th Doctor.
If you remember back, the 1st Doctor Who "Children in Need" was a small in-continuity prologue to The Christmas Invasion which introduced the 10th Doctor to Rose and the viewers. Last year there was no mini-episode, but the Doctor Who production team arranged for a ground breaking Doctor Who Concert in which Murray Gold's outstanding music was played live in a huge concert hall - and broadcast over Christmas on the BBC's digital BBCi service. (Hopefully this will be presented in full on the 3rd series DVD boxset). This year, it's back to the mini-episode.
While it's not known if this multi-Doctor episode will be canon, I think given Russell T. Davies' comments regarding the first "Children in Need" special, this will not be a spoof or farce making fun of the programme.

Even I, a very, very big Davros fan, am hesitant to get such an expensive box set. It's been confirmed that Destiny of the Daleks will consist of only one disc, so that actually means there are 2 discs with yet unknown material - I wonder what?

My favorite Doctor meets my favorite Doctor! Yay!
Of course, I'll have to wait for someone to post it online since I'm sure the US of A doesn't air the UK's Children in Need special.
As for the Davros 8-disc set, maybe one of the two bonus discs will include the 90-minute version of Genesis of the Daleks, and the other disc will contain Abducted by the Daleks.

From
www.doctorwhonews.com
The Royal Shakespeare Company have announced their 2008 line-up, which features David Tennant in two roles.
From July 24th until November 15th 2008, Tennant will be starring in the title role in Hamlet, alongside Patrick Stewart playing Claudius. Fans of the new series will also be excited to note that from October 2nd until November 15th 2008, Tennant will be playing Berowne in Love's Labour's Lost. Love's Labour's Lost was a major plot point in Series 3 episode The Shakespeare Code.
If this is true, and if next years shooting schedule mirrors those of the series to date, this means that the 2008 series (filming now) will be David's last.

-Freema Agyeman Tour of the Studio

Doctor Who is certainly the most powerful brand.
A couple of disappointments with the Doctor Who release - No Concert and I was hoping that this year each episode would have two commentaries (new plus the online ones). They got a lot of stick last year for not including the online content, so I was sort of hoping they would this year. No Infinite Quest animation, but that's getting a special extras packed release on its own.
Torchwood. Damn it, but I think I will rebuy. The promise of 13 commentaries is just too good - especially as I assume Barrowboy will be on a fair percentage of them. Say what you want, but the Doctor Who commentaries have mostly been on the right side of entertaining, and I expect Torchwood's to be the same.
I always thought the featurettes on the "normal" releases (which are repeated here) were from Torchwood Declassified, but I guess not. The extra disc will be the complete Torchwood Declassifed series, which was like Doctor Who Confidential (but these won't be cut down, the runtime was always around 10 minutes).

Doctor Who wins again! (As does Stephen Moffat)
The results of the 2007 Hugo Awards have been announced at Nippon 2007, the 65th World Science Fiction Convention, in Yokohama, Japan. The Hugo for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form went to The Girl in the Fireplace by Steven Moffat.
This is Moffat's second Hugo win, following from last year's win for The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. Other Doctor Who nominees in the category this year included Army of Ghosts/Doomsday by Russell T Davies and School Reunion by Toby Whithouse.
And, I hear Moffat is writing the 2 Doctors special for this year's Children In Need telethon.

Yeah, but it still makes no sense that it's one more disc but $20 less.

I doubt that would even show up in R1, so I'll have to make do with my extra-features-less downloaded episode burned to DVD.

Which ones were on the "normal" releases, and what was the disc breakdown for the first Torchwood release (which, as I understand it, was in two volumes instead of one season set)?
And I'm

over Moffat and Who's win for "The Girl in the Fireplace". I was watching it earlier today and just relishing the whole thing. It's still my favorite episode/story of the entire new series, with "Human Nature" a close second, though that probably has more to do with it being the most recent "new" episode I've seen. I was really pissed that there wasn't any Doctor Who (or Flash Gordon) this past Friday (in favor of a Stargate marathon...), so I have to wait until this coming Friday for part 2 of the story.

I'll dig out my discs tonight and give a listing. There were 3 sets of 2 discs.

Well, it looks like Tennant is staying, as is Davies, but they are taking a half-year break in 2008 - for the year after we'll only get specials (Xmas, Easter, August bank holiday?)
I guess both will be back on board, full-time for the 2010 series. (It's fifth)
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult/a75040 ... -2010.html
Tennant and Tate
Doctor Who will remain on air until at least 2010, the BBC has announced.
The fourth series - currently being filmed in Cardiff - will air in Spring 2008, following this year's Christmas special, which guest stars Kylie Minogue as a waitress on board the Titanic.
Another Christmas special is planned for 2008, but there will be no full series in 2009. Instead three specials are planned for broadcast throughout 2009, with both David Tennant and lead writer Russell T Davies confirmed for both. A full-length, fifth series will air in 2010.
"Doctor Who is one of the BBC's best loved and most successful dramas," said Jane Tranter, controller of BBC Fiction. "Its journey over the past three series has been one of the most ambitious and exciting that we have had, and I'm delighted to be able to confirm not only three exciting specials for 2009, but a fifth series in 2010."

Thanks for the Torchwood disc breakdown, netty!
And the news about 2009 being a specials-only year is intriguing. I wonder which season it would fall under (in terms of record-keeping, like how The Five Doctors is considered part of Season 20, even if it was aired some weeks before Season 21).
I was about to suggest that the third special could be Fourth of July, then I remembered it'd have to be a UK holiday! BTW, what's a "bank holiday"? Is it like our Labor Day?

I don't really know what a Bank Holiday is as such. We get 5 a year I think (I'll see what Wikipedia says when I finish typing this). Boxing Day, Good Friday, 2 in May and 1 in August.
The main difference I can see is apart from those of religious significance around Christmas and Easter (and arguably May Day's too which has it's roots way back in the old Pagan religion) the actual days have no significance (or indeed set date - they're always on the Monday closest). Where as in the US all holidays are named after someone or something and are used to celebrate history.
That said, they may as well name August Bank Holiday "Diana Day" the amount of wall-to-wall coverage about the anniversay of her death there was this year.
Wikipedia says this:
A bank holiday is a public holiday in the United Kingdom and also in the Republic of Ireland. Although there is no legal right to time off on these days, the majority of the population not employed in essential services (e.g. utilities, fire, ambulance, police, health-care workers) receive them as holidays; those employed in essential services usually receive extra pay for working on these days. Bank holidays are so called because they are days upon which banks are shut and therefore (traditionally) no other businesses could operate. Legislation allows certain payments to be deferred to the next working day.
You know, now I've had time to think about it, my biggest worry about the "specials only" plan for 2009 is... How will the DVDs be released? They can't really do Vanillas and then a big box set can they? If they do, does it mean we'll have even more supplements on the boxset?
I'm not that fussed about having a series in 2009, because we'll still have Torchwood and The Sarah-Jane Adventures (fingers crossed) as well as potentially the other mysterious BBC3 spin-off (Sally Sparrow? Elton?)

Sarah Jane Adventures Press Release
The new series The Sarah Jane Adventures sees the return of some familiar alien enemies from Doctor Who as the Slitheen are back and out for revenge.
Coming to CBBC on BBC One and CBBC at the end of September 2007, The Sarah Jane Adventures stars one of Doctor Who's most famous former companions – investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith.
The series is from the same people behind Doctor Who including multi-award winning writer Russell T Davies.
Having travelled the universe with The Doctor, Sarah Jane is used to dealing with alien encounters.
But when her young friends Maria, Luke and Clyde join her they soon become embroiled in a mysterious world of chases, danger, and monsters from outer space, discovering that life on Earth can be an adventure too.
In Revenge Of Yhe Slitheen, the first two-part story from the new series, Maria, Luke and Clyde realise that all is not as it seems on their first day at their new school.
The food keeps going off, there's a funny smell and the new technology block is hiding some dark secrets. They soon find out that the Slitheen have disguised themselves as teachers as part of their deadly plan which threatens the future of Earth.
Will Sarah Jane and the gang be able to stop them all before it's too late?
Executive Producer Russell T Davies says: "This is a wonderful opportunity, to use all our Doctor Who resources here in Cardiff for the making of a brand new drama for CBBC.
"We hope brand new viewers join us for ten full-blooded episodes of excitement and danger, headlined by a truly excellent cast."
Sarah Jane Smith is played by Elisabeth Sladen who also starred as Sarah Jane in the Seventies Doctor Who series as a companion to the third and fourth Doctors.
Maria Jackson, Sarah Jane's neighbour and sidekick, is played by Yasmin Paige. Luke Smith, Sarah Jane's adopted son who was created by aliens, is played by Thomas Knight, and Daniel Anthony plays the streetwise Clyde.
Elisabeth Sladen says: "It's great to be back enjoying Sarah Jane with some fantastic new adventures. There's still so much more to find out about her after all these years.
"I hope that viewers have as much fun watching the series as I did making it."
The new ten-part series of The Sarah Jane Adventures features five stories each told over two episodes.
Guest stars in future episodes include Jane Asher, Phyllida Law and Floella Benjamin.
Revenge Of The Slitheen is written by Gareth Roberts who also writes for Doctor Who. The Executive Producers are Russell T Davies, Julie Gardnerand Phil Collinson. The series producer is Matthew Bouch.
The series follows a special episode Invasion Of The Bane broadcast at New Year.
End of September! Only a few weeks to go! And more Slitheen! Blimey! They're a large family (large in both senses of the word).
I hear the Graske will be in an story too, but that's not confirmed. (But it probably is likely as Garath Roberts created the Graske, and they have the costume lying about to be used)

'Torchwood' receives rapturous US response
The BBC's sci-fi drama Torchwood has garnered rave reviews in the US ahead of its debut this weekend.
TV Guide branded the Doctor Who spin-off "cheeky... and often startlingly adult," with Variety adding that it "has the fixings of a thinking-man's sci-fi series that doesn't take itself too seriously".
The Los Angeles Times gushed about the "dark and splendid" show's "overtones of Men in Black and Buffy the Vampire Slayer", with the Hollywood Reporter review stating that it is "so good and unsettling and creepy" .
However, one detractor was the Newark Star-Ledger's Alan Sepinwall, who dubbed the John Barrowman series "a pornographic parody of The X-Files".
The first season of Torchwood will launch on BBC America this Saturday, while the second season will be screened on BBC Two in early 2008.
