Alan Tudyk is always funny, even when making only noises like here, but I hope future installments of #MoanaMondays are a bit more substantial than this one.

But for the Revival, what feature post Tangled has been a financial & critical disappointment? The only film I can think of honestly is 2012's Wreck-It Ralph. Couldn't hit the 200 million mark or the 500 mark domestic & worldwide. Didn't sell much merchandise & made less than Pixar Brave & lost the Oscar after it was the favorite. But it got great critical reviews, with some even mistaking it as a Pixar feature & will be the first WDAS feature to get a sequel since The Rescuers down under released in theaters "not counting 2002's Return to Neverland". Both Frozen & Zootopia made over a Billion dollars worldwide & BH6 was 2014's higgest grossing animated feature worldwide & an Oscar winner.

So we will see what Moana will do this Holiday season, unless it does Brave-like numbers "$540 million total worldwide" this will be another monster hit for WDAS & the Revival era. And with that, nothing will change until the letdown happens.

So the '90s can be criticized for being formulaic and the Revival films can't because...they made money? So did the '90s features? So what? Money does not make a film immune from all criticism.

You right. Frozen is the most criticized animated feature of the modern era. BH6 was criticized for it's Westernizing of Japanese Culture "even though the film was a big hit in Japan" & WiR was criticized for having real video-game characters on some of it's posters but were just cameos in the film. But these criticisms are not enough for Disney Animation to change it's "Buddy Road-Trip" formula. But with all the racist allegations towards Moana's Maui, that could cause Moana to underperform at the box office & lead to the Revival's first Let Down, Similar to the Renaissance Pocahontas, which also had racist allegations against it.

I don't see Moana underperforming. It's the next princess film after the much acclaimed Frozen, and people always look forward to the next princess. Not to mention people were ecstatic the first time they heard of her, back in 2012. It stars a polynesian heroine which is good for diversity and I bet people would be interested to see polynesian culture in a Disney film (at least in America. I'm not 100% sure if this will be appealing in countries/cultures outside the US and the Polynesia tbh). And after the hit that was Zootopia, i'd reckon the audiences want more Disney.
Maybe it won't do Frozen numbers, but I doubt it'll underperform.

However, things don't look so hot with Gigantic- no princess, no romance, no cool action scenes to bring in the "boy" audiences (yeah yeh i know but Disney's marketing and all), and it looks to be randomly changing another old story again like Jack and the Beanstalk, which isn't that popular a story to begin with. Besides, I don't think Spain is that popular a country in the US/outside Europe for stories/movies to take place in. Might not be engaging or "exotic" as other settings like video game land or future Japan or whatever.

Gigantic has the little girl giant who will be good for selling dolls and costumes, but I'm not very fond of what we've seen for Gigantic so far so I wouldn't mind if it flops. It reminds me way too much of Tangled.

But yeah for me aside from the setting nothing else seems interesting. The little girl storyline seems too childish and it looks like a bad Tangled/How to Train Your Dragon ripoff.

The original synopsis actually sounded like it had too much stuff going on. And I don't think the current plot sounds anything like Tangled or How To Drain Your Dragon. For one thing, it's another movie where there will be no romance and it's focused on a platonic relationship between an adult and child character.

I can see Gigantic doing Tangled/Brave like Box Office in the domestic market, around $200+ million & $550-$600 million worldwide. It's in the international markets where it should shine, as The Jack & the Beanstalk fairy-tale is well know, even more than The Snow Queen. Other than Disney's Fun & Fancy Free, no other major animation studio has done a legit Jack/Beanstalk feature "not counting 1974's ジャックと豆の木 Jakku to Mame no Ki". I also believe Spain & it's culture will not be offended by any costumes of Jack & Inma, And why can't the feature be set in Spain? We've seen London in Peter Pan & France in Beauty & the Beast & The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. Gigantic's Spain should have a lot to show especially during the Age of Exploration. And as for no action scenes the feature will have 120Ft tall Storm Giants! I can image the scene when they chase Jack down the Beanstalk! And also the music from the Lopez couple. Inma's song My Little Man, they will be lots of rants "especially on these boards" how inferior it is to the works of the late Howard Ashman & Alan Menken, but should be enjoyable to the overall pubic.

I can also see a connection with Tangled's characters. As Rapunzel is teased to be the cousin of Anna & Elsa maybe Eugene & Jack were old childhood friends

That is pretty radical, pretty much every flagship movie they release is going have a costume for people to look like their main characters.

Shrugs, the song was just meh. It sounded like a generic popsong, as it could've been a mellower version of When Will My Life Begin. I hope the other songs are better.

Yup. That sounds like a Lin-Manuel Miranda ballad alright. The pacing of the lyrics definitely gives that away.

I'm probably biased because I'm one of those people who won't shut up about how good Hamilton is, but I think the song shows promise, largely in part because of how good the singing is. It sounds more like something lifted directly off of Broadway than a "generic pop song". It also sounds like it's the mere beginning of something bigger, like the first verse in Let it Go, and listening to a snippet of a song never does the full song justice. After all, the part that the doll sings doesn't sound like the song's chorus based on how it's arranged and how it ends (then again, I could very well be judging it wrong).

The Brazilian trailer shows Moana clearly manipulating water. So, how can the ocean be a sentient entity, Moana be able to control it, and it being a dangerous natural element to her all at once? It doesn't make any sense.

I think it's the editing which makes it seem like she's controlling the water. If you pay attention, in the shot where she puts her hand in the water it's night and in the other shots it's daytime, so the shots don't belong to the same scene. As for why the ocean can be dangerous to her sometimes, I don't understand it either, but I hope they have an explanation for that in the film.
