Well, next Christmas would be 2007, so it's possible we will have to wait, ha. Anyway, yeah, this is the set I'm most psyched for too!

I plan to buy the True Life volumes, plus the forthcoming ones.

Now, I wonder what will come next....

I could honestly see "Song of the South" made available through this series.

And what other of Walt's works -- worthy of the "Legacy" notion -- could be included?

Would "So Dear to My Heart" be released here? (Why has this never been released on a Region 1 disc?)

And what materials will remain suitable as Walt Disney Treasures? They will still need to produce a wave to complete the Donald Duck library. Then what, The Complete Mickey Mouse Club Series volumes on BlueRay?

I want all of these too and have managed to keep up with the Disney Treasures collection so far, and hope to continue. I agree about Song of the South and So Dear to My Heart. Here is something I just posted in a related thread about my wishes for future sets:

I wish/hope that we would get a release of some of the newer shorts in proper format. Stuff like "John Henry," "Little Match Girl," "Grievance of a Starmaker" (which I only just found out was on DVD already, but a DVD I otherwise don't care to get), "Lorenzo," and stuff like that. Perhaps the Destino release will have some of this stuff (preferably the stuff I don't have yet). I also wish a new DVD would come out with Mickey's "Runaway Brain" on it, because it is out of synch on my Mickey Mouse in Living Color 2 DVD set. I've read from other folks with the same complaint on Amazon.com.

I'm also hoping either Disney Treasures or Disney Legacy will give us some of the 80's/90's TV stuff, like "Fluppy Dogs," "The Wuzzles," the Love Bug series, Sport Goofy in "Soccermania," "Totally Minnie," "Mickey's 60th Birthday," and stuff like that. The long hoped for Educational shorts set would also be a dream come true, with Scrooge McDuck and Money, the Jiminy Cricket and What Should I Do shorts, Pooh Discovers the Seasons, and more. And, of course, a Walt Disney WORLD set and more on Disneyland, with the EPCOT opening celebration hosted by Danny Kaye, the 80's Anniversary Special with such skits as Ernest visiting Disneyland as a kid with his dad and Woody from Cheers visiting the Haunted Mansion as a kid, Disneyland Showtime with the Osmonds and Kurt Russell, the 70's Mickey Mouse Club at Walt Disney World, and so much more! Oh, lastly (for now), I'd love to see a set (or several) featuring the anthology shows with Ludwig Von Drake! A lot might feel unnecessary to some, because they sometimes just feature Disney classics like "Mickey and the Beanstalk," but all the hosting stuff with Ludwig makes it a completely different and hilarious experience! Plus, there are some shows that are totally original, like "Carnival Time," where Ludwig teams with Jose Carioca and Donald to explore Mardi Gras in the 60s! Oh, and somewhere or other they have got to release Moby Duck in "Pacifically Peeking!" And some uncut versions of the anthology films that have gotten hack job releases in the past! Most notably "Melody Time" and "Make Mine Music!" And, despite what any statements have declared, I still hold out hope for "Song of the South." I fee they could totally get away with releasing the film quietly in a historical line like this. There are much more controversial films out there. Jeez, make us watch an hour long apology from Leonard Maltin or Roy Disney beforehand if you must! Even if it's one we can't skip or forward through!

I think a Walt Disney World set would fit perfectly in this one. Although what was built in Florida is far far from what Walt had wanted, it still is a continuation of his legacy.

Well, it was very much his concept to begin with. He conceived of the idea of 'plusing' Disneyland, and doing something that he couldn't do with the limited land in Anaheim and the cluster of 'mom and pop' hotels that had opened up around the park. Legend has it that Walt saw a cowboy wandering through Tomorrowland, spoiling the illusion. As a result, he thought 'we could do better'. Hence - Walt Disney World.

As we've seen from the Walt Disney Treasures - Tomorrowland, Walt's original vision saw something more like a planned community there in Florida, what he originally saw as EPCOT. Of course, EPOCT is now something completely different, but Walt's "legacy" in this case was what has been built there. It is why it is called WALT Disney World, and not just 'Disney World'.

Up until now, the parks and their history have been largely neglected in these sets. Sure, we've had one full set dedicated to Disneyland in the original Treasures waves, but there are now five resorts around the world. People forget - Disney was in perpetual financial grief until the parks opened.

So dizfan - that was a really long way of saying "Yes! Great idea!" :)

Actually, it was the other way around. A Tomorrowland spaceman went over to chat with his friend at Frontierland, and it spoiled the illusion and started the whole "remain in your land if you're in that land's costume" requirement that we still have to uphold today.

The biggest benefit of WDW in terms of that land rule is that thanks to the better backstage pathways and passages, one hardly ever has to "cross lands" in the wrong costume, though most of us at ODF do it whenever we have to pull and close a wagon and the only way back to the garage is topside through hte parks.

This is a long shot, but now that this "Secrets..." disc is now (supposedly) two discs, what do you think the chances are for Disney to add the 1990 Disney Channel special, "The Disneyland Story" to it? It was hosted by Harry Anderson (of Night Court - an '80s TV show for you youngins) and I'm not embarassed to say it's my all time favorite special about Disneyland. The clever animated clips inserted into the documentary, the tribute to Walt Disney with Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" playing, and the ironic "look into the future" of several Disneyland attractions (NONE of which have been developed) make that a really unique and highly entertaining documentary that will never be duplicated (I don't even mind the fact that the entire "theme" for the show is Back to the Future! - the music and the fact that the DL train becomes a "time machine" was all Back to the Future-esque, and not shy about it, neither).

Don't get me wrong, i'm TOTALLY excited about "Secrets...", but that doc' is held in a very special place for me.

Am I alone, here? ;-) Anyone else remember that special and/or love it as much (or nearly) as me?

I remember that special, but not in great detail. In my memory, I thought it was a doc on Walt Disney, not Disneyland. Oh well. Mainly, I remember Harry Anderson on the train and cuts to clips of Steamboat Willie and things like that. There were many wonderful programs made by Disney in the 80s when the anthology show was there, and I really wish they would come to DVD. This would be a fine addition, though I'd be even more excited to get shows like the Disneyland Birthday with sketches of Charles Fleischer guiding the Jungle Cruise and Ernest P. Worrell(sp?) visiting Disneyland as a kid with his dad, and Woody from Cheers telling the gang about his childhood experience on the Haunted Mansion with a ghostly little girl. And, of course, NBC gave us "The Muppets At Walt Disney World," which I would LOVE to see on DVD, plus "Totally Minnie" and "Mickey's 60th Birthday," which included new animation of Roger Rabbit with Mickey and the gang. If I could get all those on DVD, plus Fluppy Dogs, Return of the Shaggy Dog, and a few others from ABC, I'd be a very happy camper. Of course, there's other stuff from the anthology series I'd like as well, both older and newer.

Hey, they did it for TLK 1.5 ;)

That is very true.... Dont get me wrong, I like the Lion King 1.5. However You would think if that got a 2-disc then so should have other movies such as Fox and the Hound and Robin Hood rather than what we have now or what we will be getting tomorrow for Robin Hood. Although at least its more than what the gold collection has....

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere (aside from my one comment), but this release may be back in the cards. I got the 4th volume of the True Life Adventures yesterday, and in the packaging, on the "These titles coming soon" card, was the "Secrets of. . . " disc, as part of the Disney Legacy series now.

Also, on the cardboard spindle that held the DVDs, they had logos from other titles in the series - and "Secrets of" was included.

Now - this is nothing conclusive of course, but it gives us hope that the project hasnt been completly torpedoed yet.

This is very true, but live-action films also helped a great deal. I think they didn't get out of debt until 1961. Walt discovered he could make live-action films very fast and very cheap. This meant that he could quickly release the live-action films and at least some of them would be successful. It involved a lot less risk than the animated films. I think Disneyland is what really gave Walt and Roy financial peace of mind though, so I think your statement is very correct.

1961 was a really good year for Disney. They had several hit films:
1) 101 Dalmatians
2) Absent-Minded Professor
3) Parent Trap
4) Babes in Toyland

Immediately before '61 he had the huge hit: Swiss Family Robinson.

Finally! This DVD will be mine at last. I find the shift from the Legacy Collection to the Treasures pretty surprising, but doesn't bother me in the least (I've never been too wild about how the Legacies were packaged, anyhow). Hopefully material won't be lost since the original press release, only gained. The original disc was supposed to be single, so I can only assume that with it being a 2-disc set, now, they've brought in more goodies (ride-throughs? One can dream).

According to Amazon.com, this set will include the Disneyland episode featuring the Golden Horseshoe Revue show with Wally Boag, Ed Wynn, Annette, and Betty Taylor. Having that episode on dvd is a treasure in itself for me. It's one of my favorites.

Now, if they would only release Disneyland Showtime with the Osmonds, Kurt Russel, and EJ Peaker, I'd be in heaven....or the 25th Anniversary episode with Danny Kaye...or the Epcot Opening Ceremony with Danny Kaye also...or the wonderfully corny WDW episode called Welcome to the World with Lucy Arnez, Tommy Tune, and Lyle Waggoner.
