They did? Oh, darn. My Internet's being really difficult today, so I can't watch the teaser right now, but the pictures posted so far look fine. Did they have any of Erivo's vocals on WYWUaS in the trailer? I agree that it looks much better than Mulan and also better than Dumbo, although I didn't hate Dumbo so much as I thought it was boring.Nandor wrote:Damnit, they CGI'd Figaro
Other than that, this looks better than Dumbo, Mulan or Lady and the Tramp.

The teaser trailer and key art for the film, starring Tom Hanks, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, Cynthia Erivo, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Keegan-Michael Key, Lorraine Bracco, and Luke Evans, are available now. In addition to Pinocchio, Disney+ will announce more Disney+ Day premieres from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic in the coming months.
Source: https://thewaltdisneycompany.com/disney ... isney-day/Academy Award® winner Robert Zemeckis directs this live action retelling of the beloved tale of a wooden puppet who embarks on a thrilling adventure to become a real boy. Hanks stars as Geppetto, the wood carver who builds and treats Pinocchio (Ainsworth) as if he were his own son. Gordon-Levitt is Jiminy Cricket, who serves as Pinocchio’s guide as well as his “conscience”; Erivo is the Blue Fairy; Key is “Honest” John; Bracco is Sofia the Seagull, a new character; and Evans is The Coachman. Also in the cast are Kyanne Lamaya as Fabiana (and her marionette Sabina), Giuseppe Battiston as Señor Stromboli, and Lewin Lloyd as Lampwick.
Zemeckis, Derek Hogue, Andrew Miano, Chris Weitz, and Paul Weitz are the film’s producers, with Jackie Levine, Jack Rapke, Alexandra Derbyshire, and Jeremy Johns serving as executive producers.

At first I thought it was a real cat, but now I see it's CGI.Nandor wrote:Damnit, they CGI'd Figaro
Honest John and Gideon look horrible. Couldn't they have made their designs a bit more caricatured? Jiminy Cricket also looks quite worse than the original, but at least his design seems a bit less realistic. I like how Cynthia Erivo looks, though.Farerb wrote:The CGI is really bad. Look at this:
The children look a bit naughty to me, but I agree with you that this version will most likely be less dark than the original. It's also noteworthy that now there are girls too among the children that go to Pleasure Island. Could the image below be from a musical number?Farerb wrote:I'm guessing this will remove the more darker elements from the original. From the teaser it seems that the children won't be bad children, there definitely won't be any smoking or drinking, and they probably won't turn into donkeys and if they do, they'll definitely turn back. Monstro won't be as intimidating, will probably look dumb. This is going to be a castrated, pale imitation of the original.

Yes, a brief snippet of the song is featured in the trailer.Disney's Divinity wrote:Did they have any of Erivo's vocals on WYWUaS in the trailer?
What a horrible poster. Why is Pinocchio on Pride Rock admiring everything the light touches?Farerb wrote:Poster.
It's true, the CG isn't great, but even theatrical movies don't get good CG nowadays. I'm not sure why is that exactly. Is it the increasing demand? The tight schedule? The lack of quality control? Whatever it is, even Marvel movies and Disney Studios movies meant for theaters have dodgy CG.Farerb wrote:The CGI is really bad. Looks like they really didn't care to give it a budget that they'd normally give theatrical movies.
Cynthia Erivo has a naturally masculine physique, but they could have softened her with the right hairstyle, makeup, and wardrobe. Anyway, at least she can sing, so When You Wish Upon a Star won't get butchered.Jules wrote:She still looks like a guy in drag!
Out of the CG characters, Jiminy definitely looks the worst. In that still in particular, he looks quite off-puting. Even Honest John looks better than him. In any case, I found the trailer overall to be OK. I expected much worse, to be honest. Obviously, the movie will be toned down and sanitized and of course, nowhere near as good as the original, but that's to be expected by now. Disney doesn't make art anymore; only easily digestible content. At least, this isn't as dumb as Sneakerella or as disrespectful as Chip 'n Dale. With modern Disney, you count that as a win.Farerb wrote:WTF
What I thought was strange was them not including Aladdin, given that those three are their most successful remakes to date. By the way, I hate the new title treatment at the end of the trailer. The new logo is too plain and generic. The previous one had much more character.DisneyFan09 wrote:It`s remarkable, but unsurprising how it`s been marketed as from the creators of the live action remakes of Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, due to how this movie will be released directly on streaming.
This is another controversy waiting to happen. Wait 'til Twitter gets a hold of this.D82 wrote:Isn't this a bit like blackface? Well, maybe Stromboli is not Romani in this version; the actor they've cast in the role is Italian, but it seems they've made his skin and hair look darker.
Girls can be so naughty they are turned into donkeys too. #EqualityD82 wrote:The children look a bit naughty to me, but I agree with you that this version will most likely be less dark than the original. It looks that way. We know there are going to be new songs, so the sequence where they travel to Pleasure Island seems like a reasonable place to have a new musical number.D82 wrote:Could the image below be from a musical number?
Cynthia Erivo, who plays the Blue Fairy.bruno_wbt wrote:Who sings the new version of "When You Wish Upon a Star"?
No, I hadn't noticed it. That's cool.bruno_wbt wrote:Have you noticed that every Geppetto's Cuckoo Clock is based on a Disney movie? I spotted Snow White; Aurora and the Spinning Wheel; Donald Duck; Zazu, Simba and Rafiki; Jessica and Roger Rabbit, etc.
I forgot to comment on the poster. I agree; what a boring poster.Sotiris wrote:What a horrible poster. Even just showcasing Pinocchio's feathered cap or something would have been more elegant and atmospheric than this. It boggles the mind how can they always mess up such simple things.
I agree, the trailer itself wasn't bad.Sotiris wrote:In any case, I found the trailer overall to be OK. I expected much worse, to be honest.
I noticed that too. It's a shame, but who knows, maybe it's not the final one.Sotiris wrote:The new logo is too plain and generic. The previous one had much more character.
Yeah, it's interesting he's not given a proper look in the trailer, but it's the only character on the poster.DisneyFan09 wrote:The only thing that I didn`t like was how Pinocchio himself wasn`t given a closer look. The movie is about him, after all.
Great, another anachronistic, nonsensical way for Disney to showcase their IP. Nothing's classier than that!bruno_wbt wrote:Have you noticed that every Geppetto's Cuckoo Clock is based on a Disney movie? It felt like something they did on purpose to get twitter riled up. Is it just me?Jules wrote:BLUE FAIRY!!?

Interesting idea, but Pagans didn't wear togas, did they? Wasn't that only Greeks and Roman's? Also, in the original Pinocchio novel, she is a blue-haired lady who dresses like a lady would in Pinocchio'a time, at least from what I remember. It may have never mentioned her dress. But it is doubtful she dressed Pagan or Greek or Roman in ths original story. She would have stood out too much and the book probably would have mentioned it.Disney's Divinity wrote:I'd have preferred if the Blue Fairy's dress hadn't been toga-like, but otherwise, both images look fine to me? I guess the toga look was part of making the Blue Fairy look more pagan here as in the story (and the way fairies were traditionally thought of) than the more angel-like take of the Walt film, but I think she looks pretty. Her expression definitely has the same cold, slightly unsettling feeling the Blue Fairy had in the animated film (at least for me).
I'm not that into the MCU to care, but I did notice that there are many who said the CGI is bad in their recent films. Yeah I actually remember thinking that the end of Shang Chi looked extremely cartoonish.Sotiris wrote:It's true, the CG isn't great, but even theatrical movies don't get good CG nowadays.
