If this is true, maybe Mushu just makes a cameo in the movie in his object form. I don't think he'll have an important role in the film, otherwise his voice actor would've been announced. As for the music, it's probably just a cover of one of the original songs for the end credits.

I was going to see this regardless, but both of these bits of news are good news if true, imo. The plot and characters don't have to be exactly the same for the songs to work.
I think Mushu is more popular from the animated film than people give him credit for; I've always loved the character, anyway, even though I'm not that big of an Eddie Murphy fan really. If they can CGI the stupid mice in Cinderella, all the ugly fairy creatures in Maleficent, the servants in B&tB, etc., they can include Mushu and Cri-Kee in some capacity, even if it's a minuscule appearance.

So Yao is in the movie after all. Odd that they kept these three characters over other more popular ones.

My guess is they're trying to hew more closely to the original where they can in response to the backlash over all the changes. Which is a positive, imo.

Apparently, Cri-Kee is going to be in the movie.

Oh, no! Not Kevin Hart!
The live action Mulan film has wrapped production and is now in the editing process. A trailer is set to premiere sometime in April, according to multiple sources. We dropped an exclusive months back that confirmed that Mushu will indeed be in the film; however, no one has been selected for the role. We have learned exclusively from multiple sources that Disney is reportedly looking at Kevin Hart for the role and is their top choice. Disney is still Looking at other actors but they are slowly narrowing it down. At one point, they wanted Eddie Murphy to reprise his role in the film but has since turned it down; no word as to why. While we haven’t been able to confirm any of this, we’ve decided to share it as a rumor and nothing more.

Eww, I despise Kevin Hart. I wish Eddie Murphy would reprise the role. Honestly, I'm surprised Disney is keeping Mushu in after all the flack the character got in China for speaking "ebonic."

Mushu is one of the things I dislike about Mulan, he is so out of place like Timon and Pumbaa and the gargoyles.

Wow, they actually asked Eddie Murphy again! I can't believe he'd turn it down. Seriously, what else does he have going on these days? He hasn't really been on top with anything for a while, has he? I get the impression he kind of sneers at Disney for its "family friendly" brand, because he was difficult and/or disinterested while creating the original film itself. That may have been the appeal of Shrek / Dreamworks for him.
I would be fine with Kevin Hart. I know about his recent scandal, but he's not the worst person out there. Besides, Eddie Murphy himself has said plenty of awful things on top of various slurs in his time--so have many comedians. That's no longer okay in the present--and that's a good thing--but I'm not going to hold things that were common among everyone in the past like that against them forever and a day. Hart could do a much better job apologizing, but there are also much bigger fish to fry these days in the world of Drumpf. Just saying. Besides, Kevin Hart is hilarious, imo. He would be great as Mushu.

Putting his homophobia and misogyny aside, I find Kevin Hart incredibly obnoxious and not even a tiny bit funny so him being Mushu is not good news to me.

Same. He's a disgusting human being and I was so happy he was booted off the Oscars. If he ends up in the film, I definitely will not be watching just like I avoided Christopher Robin because of Ewan McGregor.

That's fine. I'll still be happy if he gets the role because I've always found him funny.

Murphy is apparently in semi-retirement and has said he's mostly content just raising his family, with movies no longer a top priority for him. Although he will be starring in "Coming to America 2" soon, so there must be something there that piqued his interest beyond a nice paycheque.

I knew he must not need money at this point in his career, but voice acting seems like it would be an easy gain with minimal effort. Oh, well.

Skyler Shuler: Keep getting asked, so I’m addressing it. Disney contacted me telling me to delete our “Kevin Hart For Mushu” rumor on The DisInsider. I will say this, I hear he is very much in the mix along with other actors and my source on this is has always been solid. Guess we wait.
Q: Full curiosity: how can they tell you to delete something on your website, especially if it’s rumor and not, say, a picture of an internal document?
Skyler Shuler: The studio doesn’t want it ran and they asked. I did out of respect. That said they know I’m onto something.
