Re KoT - I seriously doubt they'll use the same art for the DVD. It will probably get a totally new cover like is standard on big releases; usually, only budget line catalog titles use the original VHS cover art for the DVD.

KoT is actulally an improvement over RoJ in terms of story, character and music, although the animation is just as if not more below par than RoJ. Take that as you will. Still, it's worth seeing and I'll probably get the DVD.

I'd expect both it and Jafar to hit DVD in early 2005 at the absolute latest, though I wouldn't be suprised to see Disney announce them for November or December this year to piggyback directly on the success of the original DVD. Unlike Lion King, they do not have a new movie in production to stagger the releases for, and the Al sequels are not as strong as TLK's, so I doubt they'd be able to hold their own as well as TLK1.5 and TLK2 do. As such, I'm expecting something more along the lines of BATB cheapquel SEs as opposed to TLK sequel SEs--that is, single disc, remastered transfer, a few extras. But I think that suits them.

Though, I do have to admit that I would be really interested in seeing the franchise be revisited with a fourth movie now that the overall quality of the cheapie productions has improved (see TLK 1.5.) I don't think a 1.5 would work, but an Aladdin IV would be great, if they could come up with a solid storyline, reunite the original cast, and give it some quality animation (again a la 1.5.) Maybe they will if the DVD is a success? I do realize that the Arabian Nights reprise at the end of KoT has a sort of finality to it, but then again so did Cinderella's happily ever after, and they broke that too, so what's the harm?

An Aladdin 1 1/2 would be horrible and suspected by the general public as a weak attempt to mooch off the success of Lion King 1 1/2. Anyhow, and Aladdin IV would be pretty neat, but finding the right story may be difficult, since the third one kind of ended it. The solution? Give them children and repeat the first movie! That seemed to be the pattern with "The Little Mermaid 2" and "Lady and the Tramp 2."

Oh God I hope not I am happy with Aladdin ending in its third movie. If Disney did that they would a get a very unpleasent letter from me .

Shouldn't we get to see the Mulan and Aladdin menus by at least July?

I hope Aladdin's menus are CGI like the previous Platinums (but based on the very brief look at them in the Aladdin DVD trailer, it seems not, unless those weren't the final menus).

I hope they have style like the Home On The Range menus. The Lion King menus were bad. I hope they arent anything like those. Ah well, we'll just have to wait and see. I do hope they release some images soon.

The Aladdin DVD trailer I saw (on The Lion King 1.5) was just a bunch of fullscreen movie clips nicely edited together with a fancy voiceover, no menu or bonus features peaks of any kind. Is there a second one yet? If so, what releases is it on, or where can I see it? AladdinDVD.com still only has the one from TLK 1.5.

The trailer I'm talking about is on The Haunted Mansion DVD. It features (very) brief looks at two of the menus and the Agrabah set-top game. It's basically like the trailer you just mentioned, but a few seconds added discussing the DVD itself. I'd take screencaps except that I don't have a DVD-Rom drive.

What? Is this a new film we know nothing about, sadly not as the following line confirms

So once again, Disney's UK PR have made a mistake.

I think the Extras sound a LOT better than on Lion King last year ans I'll hope that the Making of is long an in deph. (1h or longer)

I agree, I think this sounds like a very solid release. I was worried at first that the Art Review would replace a proper gallery, but now I can rest easy as galleries are included, as well (and trailers!). It seems the two commentaries will have the filmmakers on one track and the animators on the other, which is very intriguing. Bring on October!

I checked out the Return Of Jafar and Aladdin and The King Of Thieves DVD Thing and they said that it is a low chance that they will be released this year because they wern't as popular as Aladdin. And they said that Alladin And The King Of Theives DVD Release in Europe didn't pull over to well with the buying public.

Hmm, and "Aladdin and the Forty Thieves" is obviously a confusion. Here in Brazil "Aladdin and the King of Thieves" is called "Aladdin and the 40 Thieves".

Here is an updated list of extras from Disney's site, but there's nothing we haven't seen listed in the UK press-release that James posted.
One quick note: it seems the new recording of "Proud of Your Boy" is just going to be a music video, with no new animation at all.
