Reflections on Alice is only 13 minutes? Bah, that's what I was afraid of. I'll still be getting this at some point, but I'm no longer in much of a hurry to nab it.

Mason, you've got some explaining to do. :P

To answer the previous two posters...

I don't think this is a new restoration of Alice In Wonderland. Nothing on the package claims it to be, and it looks the same as the Masterpiece Edition to my untrained eye. That's not bad however, because it looks excellent.

"Reflections of Alice" being 13 1/2 minutes long is only disappointing because we were led to believe it was much longer by a previous poster. It's actually a very classy, tasteful, informative, and respectful mini-documentary that lives up to it's name. It consists of many historians, animators, and even Tony Baxter from Imagineering reflecting on Alice from it's origin as a book, early concepts at Walt Disney Studios in the 1930's, Mary Blair's influence on the finished film, and it's legacy as a classic story, a classic Disney movie, and in the theme parks. A great deal is crammed into the running time, but it doesn't feel overly rushed. As a fan of the Disney animated film, I felt it was awesome to hear so many people's thoughts on the movie.

In "Reflections of Alice" it was also interesting to hear the film acknowledged as being a classic for it's own unique reasons while not being in the same league as other legendary Disney animated movies. I appreciated "Reflections of Alice" immensely and, as a fan, I feel it was worth purchasing the new edition for it and for the deleted scene which includes lovely artwork. They are infinitely more meaningful than the sing-a-long songs that they replaced.

Walt's "Alice" seemed to be selling briskly at the Best Buy I went to today!

Hope they announce a Blu-Ray soon.

Did you watch it? You were off by 26 minutes, surely you're not that bad with time.

This re-release is still a skip for me! I have a feeling "The Great Mouse Detective" will be as well.

Yeah, at 13 minutes... Not so much. Will just wait until the eventual BD.

Well for me, seeing as it would probably 8+ years until a Great Mouse Detective BD release and I don't have it on DVD it's a must buy for me.

With the rumors as strong as they are for some sort of Alice BD release next year I'm holding out for that.

Too bad about the documentary... I'll still be buying it, since I don't have it on DVD.

I obviously didn't buy the old Masterpiece edition and... well, despite the lesser quality of the new cover art and the new disc art (lack thereof)... as long as none of the bonus features are lost, I'm getting this edition instead of the Masterpiece edition.

Did anyone make sure to check the photo galleries and make sure they're all there? I read a DVD review the other day or so on UD which mentioned that a newer version of some movie dropped photo galleries altogether or dropped some of the photos.

The gallery is exactly the same as the Masterpiece Edition's. The review you probably read was for either Sleeping Beauty's Platinum Edition or Snow White's Diamond Edition, both of which shorten the galleries a bit from the previous releases. The only things that have been dropped from Alice's ME are two sing-alongs.

So, needless to say, I went and bought this new Un-Anniversary release. I'm not going to do into detail because Luke's given me the go-ahead to do a formal review of this for the site. I will say this, though: the featurette, despite the brevity, is great, and the deleted scene's interesting. I'll talk about both in-depth in my review, which should be ready by midweek.

Thanks for all of that. And I can't wait for your review now that you've let us know it's coming.

Shockingly, the Sleeping Beauty and Snow White re-releases aren't an issue for me...

Because I own the original DVD releases! :pink:

Bought this today! I must say, I am pleased. Although, 'Reflections on Alice' could be longer, and we need disk art!
