The soundtrack is so good. The songs are absolutely fantastic ("Dig a Little Deeper", "When We're Human" and "Down in New Orleans" are the stand-outs for me).
The score is great, but does anybody else find it to be a tad familiar? The beginning of "The Frog Hunters" track sounds very similiar to Newman's score in Monsters, Inc. Anybody else find this?

I won't be getting the soundtrack until after the movie's out and I heard them all for the first time. I'm sure it must be great to have! Only two days until it comes out in New York City and LA! That means that they'll tell us their opinions right? So that way we can get an early glimpse on just how big it'll be.
By the way, I finally got an avatar!

I'll probably keep this one for a while until I feel like getting another.

Lookin' good!

I don't think I'll buy the soundtrack until I see the movie too.

Hey, look! I have an avatar, too!
And I can't wait to hear everyone's opinions about the movie when it opens! ^_^

Hooray! A fellow "Treasure Planet" avatar!
Anyway, I was talking to some of the kids on my quiz bowl team about TPatF today. I was a little distressed to hear one, a Disney fan no less, express concerns about thinking that this film is doomed to failure. Others, however, thought the ads looked delightful, and are planning to see it. So, it is interesting to hear what average, non-Disney obesessed teens are thinking about this!

The CD
The Princess and the Frog: Tiana and her Princess Friends has a longer version of
Down in New Orleans sung by Anika Noni Rose as Tiana. (2:26)

I think that's probably because Disney's advertising team is horrible. The only commercial I keep seeing is the one where it focuses on the frogs and Ray a lot. It's as bad as when the
Treasure Planet commercials would focus on the flatulent-speaking alien bit.
I'm sure there are some more inspiring clips to use for promoting the movie.
Anyway, I agree with
IagoZazu that I probably won't get the soundtrack until I've seen the movie. I want everything I see to be for the first time. That's the best way for me to enjoy these kinds of things.

I've slightly swayed from my intent of not listening before I see the film, but I did check out the soundtrack clips on Amazon. Anika's in fine voice and I did quite enjoy what little I heard, so my hopes are high.

All I am praying right now is that this turns out to be a blockbuster smash hit. I have heard that lack of advertisement can be hurtful in a movie's revenue.

It can actually work both ways. Sometimes's if the advertisements and posters are too widespread, people can become sick of a movie before it even arrives!
Disney walks a very fine line when it comes to promoting their films.

So... Thoughts on the soundtrack?
I wasn't blown away at first, but the more I listen to it the more I like it. It really has to grow on you. I wasn't pleased with the idea of Newman doing the music, but, like Patrick said, it's a nice departure from Menken's style. My favorite track is "Friends on the Other Side" which actually managed to creep me out and that never happened with any other villain song. I can't wait to hear it accompanied by the visuals. Another favorite of mine is "Ma Belle Evangeline". The only disappointment is "Almost There": great melody, but the lyrics are kind of... meh. There's nothing in the song that really sticks with you. I haven't been listening to the score portion of the soundtrack that much, so I won't comment on it.
Overall, a pretty good, if not great, album. If I had to compare the songs to other Disney tunes, I'd describe it as some sort of mix between Hercules' and Oliver & Company's music.

So far, my top favorite in the soundtrack would have to be "When We're Human".

I just got the CD in the mail this afternoon, and I'm just finishing up listening to the songs. I still adore "Never Knew I Needed". I just love that song so much. I like all the songs. I prefer "Down In New Orleans" when Tiana sings. "When We're Human" is great and fun, "Almost There" is wonderful, "Ma Belle Evangeline" is sweet, as I knew it'd be. "Friends on the Other Side" is a great villain song- I, too, still can't wait to see it on the big screen! I like all the songs, but those ones are the stand-outs, I guess.

Hey guys! This is my first post ever!!!
Anyways on to the soundtrack, I agree with you completely Mooky! I wasn't extremely happy with the soundtrack the first time I heard it. But as I listened to it more I began to like it and now I even exercise to it

! My favourite song on it would have to be Friends on the Other Side, but When we're Human and Dig a Little Deeper come in close seconds (they're a tie to me). And I really like Down in New Orleans (Finale). About "Almost There", I really didn't like it, compared to other leading lady solos. But when I watched a clip of the song, I began to like it more, so we'll when the movie comes out. The score isn't amazing, but it's good...like someone else said, it has a familiarity to it. Overall I really like the album. I can't wait to see the movie so I can see if these songs grow on me more.
Just a little note, I was reading some views other people had on other websites and supposedly many people were saying that the only reason that Tiana is black is because Obama came into office. I'm pretty sure that Obama came into office way after this movie was even conceived. I know that and I'm Canadian! I just wish people would just appreciate this movie more!
