They also didn't cave in to those who were protesting the 1-Disc DVD.

Anyway, I'm also glad (but not surprised) that the scene stayed in. And as usual, excellent review, Luke! I often wish UltimateDisney reviewed other movies in addition to Disney films, because the reviews here are superior to any other site I've seen. And despite my original plan to wait until the 2-Disc set, I'll probably end up getting this DVD shortly after it comes out, with the bonus disc that several stores are offering.

Great review Luke! I agree it's not the best Pixar film, but it's still great. Only 4 days until the DVD I can't wait.

Hehe, we could change the name to UltimateDVD.com and assign different studios to different people. I call dibs on Warner Brothers!

Still, I don't mind that other sites aren't as in-depth as UD is with reviews, mainly because when you compare a sites's review of a Disney film to the one we have at UD, you can tell what mindset the reviewer is in, and if it's not from UD, half the time it's either a "Disney is an evil money-grubbing corporation" or a "Disney's great for kids, and a nice walk down memory lane for teh rest of us". UD's got the best of both, as we at least acknowledge the company's faults without being overly critical, while at the same time giving a fair critique of the product without trying to push it in the consumer's face.

Pixar's Cars should have gotten a 2 Disc release since it made over $200 million at the theatres and also was a pretty good movie.

I can see it now in April 2007 Pixar's Cars will get a Collector's Edition....just like all the other Pixar films that have either CE or 2 Disc Editions.

Actualy Luke(in regards with your review), while I think you meant domestic gross only, "Ice Age: The Meltdown" actually made more than "Cars" worldwide. Just see for yourself.

Also I think crediting "Cars" as "The Walt Disney Company's 10th Highest Grossing Film" isn't something to be extremely proud of, especially if you put inflation into it, which drops Cars farther down the list.

Now I wouldn't say Cars was a failure, but it did disappoint to an extent as it wasn't the huge success it could've been. Now Cars may be successful, but it has actually made less than the majority of the Pixar films, even without including inflation. Which can create low expectatitons for their future projects.

As far as your opinion on the film, well, to each their own. I totally agree with you though that the scene "Our Town" feels similar to "When Somebody Loved Me" from Toy Story 2. But you forgot to mention how Lightning's story of him getting lost is almost exactly like Woody's in Toy Story 2 along with most of the details of it. Sally is the exact same character as Jessie as their the lead females who which the main character is somewhat interested in first, then both become enimies, then they start like each other once they get to know one another. Doc Hudson is the exact same character as Stinky Pete with the "surprises" at the end with his character, and they change at the end as well(although, Stinky Pete became the antagonist at the end, while Doc became the opposite but still), Mater was just Bullseye with more person qualities to him to make him and Lightning more similar to the rest of the Pixar buddies and...

Okay, in short, we disagree.

I just got back from Wal-Mart! I did some grocery shopping, then I headed to Electronics. There were quite a few people, mostly guys, waiting for the Cars DVD. I looked for it, but, they didn't have it out on display. I finally went and asked an associate, and he asked if I wanted Widescreen or Fullscreen. I told him I wanted Widescreen. He started to hand me the regular edition, and I asked if they had the 2-Disc set. He said, "Oh, those are in the back". He came back out, pulling a HUGE display of Cars DVD's, and handed me the Cars (Widescreen) DVD with Wal-Mart exclusive bonus disc.

I went to check out, and I told the lady I had a price match for Cars. She rang up the 2-Disc set, which came up as $19.96, then she took my Circuit City ad, keyed in the price of $13.99, and that was it! No trouble at all!

Okay, so last night was my very first time watching Cars and I have to say that overall I was really not impressed! Does anyone else feel this way? I feel that this was Disney/Pixars worst creation by far. Don't get me wrong I didn't hate this movie, but I didn't really love it either. It did have some really strong points that I liked: especially the opening scene, and Mater's character. I feel like on the whole though, the movie wasn't very great. I think my biggest concern with the movie is (and this is just my opinion) ...it didn't have a very strong story. Also (and many people make fun of me for this) I couldn't really buy the whole aspect of Cars talking and having human emotions. People often tease me and say "Oh so you can buy talking animals, but not talking Cars?" Well yes, for me it is easy to buy animal story lines because animals are living things that have emotions. I could rant more about this and explain in great detail my many issues with the film... but I could be here for days overanalyzing an animated movie. I guess I just didn't really care for it that much... bring on Ratatouille in Summer 2007!!

We are all entitled to our own opinion. I may not agree with yours, but, I understand that it's your opinion. I will agree that this is not Pixar's greatest film. I do feel that the story is pretty strong, just that it didn't translate as well as it could have. In fact, upon viewing the film on DVD, I was reminded about how strong the story, or jist of it, is. I think it is harder for people to relate to cars showing emotion, but, I feel Pixar did do as well as they could on this aspect.

At any rate, while this may not be Pixar's best film, it is still a good one. I have found myself enjoying it even more, upon repeated viewings. It's got a great deal of charm, and I am glad to have it in my collection.

you'd think they would have had a preview for ROBIN HOOD on this dvd. And where was the trailer and the teaser?

I'm happy to have my dvd, as is my nephew (who I purchased the DVD for). But I think they could have included a lot more features (a lot of us think that.)

I wish I could have gotten the bonus disc at walmart, though. Oh well, I got the pin @ Target.

I bet next spring they will release a 2 DISC DVD with tons of bonus features and the 20th anniversary special.........*sigh*
