I actually originally didn't have much interest in this, but now that I see how much content there is (a 90 minute documentary and some fairly extensive bonus materials) and how low the retail price is, I just may pick this up. The menus are certainly well-done. I wonder if we'll see something like this for Disney World in the future (next year's its 35th anniversary, which may not be as big a deal as Disneyland's 50th, but expect Disney to capitalize on this somehow).

I'd wager that you're right, Kelvin. Then again, the Happiest Celebration on Earth lasts from May 2005 - November 2006 at all Disney resorts, so I don't see how WDW can celebrate that and their 35th at the same time. Have they ever had two "themes/celebrations" going on at once? But then I also can't see them passing up a chance to celebrate an anniversary. Disneyland celebrated its 35th.
Then again, documentaries on WDW are bound to hit DVD at some point (in addition to what's being sold at the World right now), assuming this release is successful, and I'm pretty sure it will be. What better time to do it next year? Then they'd get to re-release them in time for th 40th.
Of course they have lots to celebrate in the nearing future:
2006 - WDW/Magic Kingdom 35th anniversary
2007 - Epcot 25th anniversary
2008 - Animal Kingdom 10th anniversary
2009 - Disney-MGM Studios 20th anniversary
2010 - Disneyland's 55th anniversary
2011 - WDW/Magic Kingdom 40th anniversary
...as you can see, it goes on and on

This DVD might range anywhere from $14 to $18 dollars. But after watching it, I know I am going to want to go to DISNEYLAND!! So that is another $60!!!

I didn't have much interest in this one at first either but know I am getting it. I can't wait. I also hope Disney will do something similar to this for Disneyworld.

2001 was its 30th and they really didn't make a big deal about it. There was merchandise and stuff. This was 5 years after its 25th and its 35th would just be a year after DisneyLAND's 50th, so they probably won't have anything, just merchandise and park maps saying the 35th Anniversary. Maybe a soundtrack set?

as the front says "Bad news! Buena Vista's Publicity department has yanked Secrets, Stories & Magic of the Happiest Place on Earth from their listings. It now appears that this much-anticipated new documentary-and-more DVD has been indefinitely delayed, as was originally reported by Amazon.com and Disney's customer hotline weeks ago. The three other discs coming in conjunction with Disneyland's 50th Anniversary are still due for July 12th release, but Secrets likely will not become available until later in the year." (for ones to lazy to go to the front)
I kindof thout this would happen.I just hope it DOES come out in the 50th of Disney parks.

This might be the worst Disney DVD news since we found out National Treasure didn't have a slip cover.
And to think- I was about to pre-order! I guess we can hope that the guy at BVHE Publicity, the guy on Disney's phone, and the (gal?) at Amazon were all acting on the same errant piece of information. Wishful thinking, I guess. This better come out sooner than later- and it better come out!

Thanks for your post. I know a new soundtrack set for WDW is already in the works, but I don't know when it's set to land. From what I understand, they'll have a hard time topping what's available now... hope to find that out for myself in a few weeks when I'm down there.

I was disappointed to hear the news. I want to get this DVD. I know it won't be one I'll watch over and over but it looks interesting and I'm sure if I ever get to go to a Disney theme park I'll have more interest so it'll be viewed quite a bit.
Disney, why?!
Disney seems to upset me once a year. Last year they were supposed to release the Miyazaki/Ghibli wave 2 on my birthday but they messed that up. Blehargh.

Why would they double dip like this?

Well, that would explain why "Disneyland: Secrets..." has been postponed, I'll bet. They decided to release the Sing-a-long individually, and now they need to redo the highly anticipated Disneyland DVD. *sigh*

I wouldn't normally expect Disney to go to such lengths to not double-dip, but in the absence of any other reason for it being delayed, you might be right here. It's at least a theory, which is more than what we had before.
EDIT: But then, they just released the menu shots, including the sing-alongs section.

I really hope they don't remove the sing-alongs. I was looking forward to that, but I'm not so anxious for it that I'm going to dish out extra money to get them on a separate disc. Perhaps the sing-alongs will remain, but Disney wants the public to buy the Sing-Along disc first for a while before they discover that the Disneyland disc has them? This really sucks. Just as I was getting interested in this release, they post pone it. I think I cursed it. Perhaps if I say I'm not interested, Disney will bring it back? Hey, it's worth a shot.

Optimistic Kram thinks that they are saying its not being released so they can have a "surprise" release on Disneyland's actual 50th Anniversary on June 17th, 2005.
Though when is Optimistic Kram ever right?

Cool! You're vacationing there too? Well, we don't go again until the end of July. Make sure to look for Escapay somewhere selling something or Jane McCoy at Indy Speedway. Well actually, she might be back at Fantasyland by then.
Also, concerning 50th merchandise, you should add your email to the laughingplace store's listings so you can get weekly e-mail updates (with full color photos!) of the latest DL and WDW merchandise. There are A LOT of stuff for the 50th celebration.

I hope this is one time that you ARE right; this is very disappointing, especially since I have it bundled together with a couple of other items that ordinarily I'd be able to get on time, but not now. The scary thing about this is they did the same thing last year with Dr. Syn: Alias the Scarecrow, and that has never been rescheduled. And they postponed it at around the same time as this last year.

A thought about the delay . . .

With the announcement of Roy rejoining the company in a way, perhaps this was pulled at his request so that he could be a part of it.
There is an interview section called "remembering walt" that would include family most likely. He would not want this to go out without him. Remember his role in the treasures before he left. This is pretty much a "treasure"
I hope i hope i hope!

Not sure how important it is to mention, and maybe it was just a last-minute editing glitch, but in this month's Eyes and Ears (cast-exclusive newsletter at WDW), they mentioned three new Disney DVDs to be available tomorrow, and rather than mention "The Best of Britney, Justin, and Christina", they mentioned the Secrets one. I'll check all the stores tomorrow before work to see if the Disneyland DVD maybe just be a park exclusive for now or something. But it still may just be an editing glitch, though I don't know how someone could miss that in printing.
