they won't sell much if they only sell t-shirts, coffee mugs and snow globes. How about stuffed animals? They need to realize there are ADULT Disney fans, too........and I like Pens, wallets, purses, the occasional stuffed animal (I got my Meeko at a Disney Store & my Percy dog at a Disney store.)

They also need to add more to the online store and not just D23 exclusive stuff.....

They will still have stuffed animals, but they deem those as "for kids." I think the decision to focus mainly on kids was based on the fact that when Disney Store had an even mix of kids and adult oriented merchandise, they weren't able to stay in business. Too much shelf space was devoted to adult merchandise that didn't sell. So it sort of makes sense to have it only be online.

Also, they add stuff to the online store almost daily, but most of it is in toys. They get a lot of stuff for adults online. Just look at the home decor section.

I think he meant that the only adult merchandise that will be sold are t-shirts, coffee mugs, and snow globes. Of course children's merchandise, including stuffed animals, will be sold.

From what I've heard, the new stores will be based around classic Disney characters. Supposedly, they have created an interactive Magic Mirror (like from Snow White) that will be at the back of the store. Merchandise will have a microchip in it so when you walk by, the mirror might say something to you about what you are holding in your hand. Sounds like a really cool shopping experience to me. I love the Apple Store, so merging Disney magic with Apple's unique shopping experience should make for one heck of store. I'm excited about the changes.
An interactive mirror, huh? That sounds interesting. :)

I also worked for the Disney Store here in Nova Scotia. Three long years, but interesting ones. My first year was decent, as Disney still owned us. Then, Children's Place came along and everything went downhill. We had no stock, everything was a mess. The best was the second summer I was there. We were closed for the CP remodel.

You only get minimum wage and forget raises. In the three years I was there, I was given two raises. One for a quarter, and one for 11 cents. No, really. 11 cents.

The discount is pretty much useless, unless you have young kids to buy for. There is never adult merchandise worth it,(especially now. Apparently, no stores did well with it, so Disney chucked it out the door not making money. Which our store hated, as we were one of the sellers for it), and it doesn't count on the DVDs, CD, etc.

I'm glad to hear the park passes are back though. They were an awesome perk! We lost them when the buy-out happened, but I left before Disney got the stores back so I didn't see them reinstated.

That is interesting that they are going back to Santa Monica. Back when I lived there they had one on the Promenade and then it closed down I want to say in 2001 without any warning. I wonder why they are going back?

The new design looks good. I admit after working there myself for the few months and what happen to e (see story above) I have not been to one since. The experience left me jaded. But, Disney didn't own it at the time and my manager was a jerk. I may give the new store a chance and check it out. It looks cool and the stores really need a face lift if you will. I'm kind of excited!

The whole thing is so corporate and sterile, it's not like the Disney Store of yesteryear that sold complete sticker book collections (you guys know what I'm talking about ;) and Disney Villains hardcover books; now it's all hannah montana crap and Disney Channel junk. It's barely the same brand, but they throw mouse ears in and call it a Disney store.
