I am still amazed that Nemo made as much money as it did and that people like it as much as they do. I'm not bad-mouthing the film or anything, but its got the most simplistic plot out of all the Pixar films. In fact, I was surprised that everyone here at the board liked it as much as they did. I liked the film, it was a lot of fun, funny, a good time. But I didn't think it was that earth-shattering to be making all of that money. Oh well, guess you just can't predict how the public will react to something.

I saw the film with my wife and 2 1/2 year-old daughter and thought it was a good film...not the best effort by Pixar, but a very good film none-the-less. In one of my first posts in these forums back in June I think I ranked it my 4th favorite Pixar film thus far.

It's an outstanding film by Pixar visually, but I thought the story was one if its lesser efforts. However, a "weaker" story by Pixar is still head-and-shoulders above what many other studios are capable of

Less than $7 million behind LOTR: TT, and it remained in the Top 15 over the Labor Day weekend.

Part of me is happy The Lion King has been bumped down, but another part of me is sad that a Pixar flick did it...

No. Negotiations are ongoing but I believe their contract runs thru Cars in 2005. Of course, they will either have a new contract w/ Disney or another studio by the time that film hits the theatres.

Thanks for the info Indiana! I'll be waiting for what will either be a great day for Disney or a day for Pixar to die!

Updated Nemo's numbers ... about $4,000,000 away from The Two Towers.

Also worth mentioning, Pirates of the Caribbean is now the 16th highest grossing film in US history. What an amazing year for Disney Studios!

This will be the first time ever that 1 studio has had 2 $300 million dollar hits in 1 year. An amazing year indeed.

Time for my monthly Nemo (and Pirates) update -- check the first page of this thread for the "official" numbers.

FN has moved within 1.7 milion of Lord of the Rings: Two Towers.
Meanwhile, PotC has become Disney's SECOND $300 million grosser in 2003.

Other tidbits:
FN was the 5th fastest to $300 million of all-time: 51 Days
PotC was the 8th fastest: 101 days
---Spiderman did it in 22 days, 2X faster then Titanic, which was 4th fastest

Pirates won't make it into the Top 10 overall, but I'd be willing to bet that it has about doubled it's expected gross. What an amazing story this film has been.

I'd like for Nemo to pass Two Towers, but that probably won't happen. Kinda amazing that Nemo's still playing in over 400 theaters. Seems like ages ago I saw it and the DVD is just two weeks away.

I'm sure it's in a ton of bargain theatres now...where you pay something like $2.50 for a matinee showing. Also we have a club here in Indy called Holiday Bar & Film Works that shows films for like $5 and you can order dinner and alcohol while viewing the movie.

FN is now only $161,000 away from passing The Two Towers...something I never would have imagined was possible.

The only thing is, I'm not sure how many theatres, if any, that Nemo is still playing on so it's hard to say if it has a chance to do it.

I actually know this! I was looking at this very info just a few hours earlier. It's still playing in 213 theaters and last weekend it made just over $100,000. Looks doable!

Disney/Pixar needs another animated movie phenomenon like Finding Nemo. I know they had live action Pirates success, and I loved those movies - but now they need a new ORIGINAL and CREATIVE movie for fans to fall in love with. I'm really excited for Alice in Wonderland and A Christmas Carol and The Princess and the Frog, but are they going to be phenomenons? The former two are remakes. Look at what's happened since the original post:

Shrek 2 shouldn't even be on that list. I know box office totals are not the say all end all judge of good movies, but the public is seriously swayed by box office reports on the radio/tv, etc. "Oh, that movie only made $8 mil. this weekend?" In my opinion the more Disney makes, hopefully the more money they'll pour into original ideas and better DVD releases.

Based on the cast and genre, <i>A Christmas Carol</i> should be huge... but I'm thinking if it's an authentic telling of the tale, then it might not be as huge as say something more colorful and gassy. It's strange how <i>Nemo</i>'s numbers seem so far out of reach for Pixar's latest and even more inconceivable for Disney's Feature Animation works.

As for <i>Alice</i> and <i>Princess and the Frog</i>, I don't expect either of them to be giant blockbusters, although they should definitely be profitable.

That's exactly it. They need to find a formula for success to reach that level again. Since when has it become "par" for Pixar movies to earn between $200-$240 million? They need to put their finger on exactly what it was about Nemo that appealed to so many people. Was it a combination of the star power and story line? Or was it because the movie was released during a time where there was less competition?

I hope A Christmas Carol is a huge success. I certainly can't wait for it, along with the others.

Don't get me wrong it truly is a great film....but not one of my personal Favorites...

Or make a make a TV series or a sequel of Finding Nemo and have Dory meet a new Flounder Fish named "Rosie"

No doubt, because Cars should have been right up there with Nemo. Of course, by now Pixar/Disney have totally made up the difference in merchandising alone probably.

Have any of you seen that they're coming out with new toys for the holiday season for Cars AGAIN this year??? It's astonishing.
