The first DVDs that I ever recieved were South Park: The Movie and Spider-Man back in Christmas 2002, but the first DVD that I personally bought with my own money was Meet the Parents. The first Disney DVD I bought was The Lion King and my first Region 1 DVD was Alice in Wonderland: Masterpiece Edition.

Actually, my first DVD purchase influenced my parents into getting a DVD player. We were kind of looking at one, and I knew Mom wanted to get it, so we went into Music World near my home of the time and I went looking for a movie on VHS, couldn't find it, but I did find it on DVD. As a result of me buying it, Mom made up her mind to get a DVD player.
I paid $35.99 for one of my all-time favorite sci-fi movies.....
Wing Commander (and now one can find the stupid thing everywhere (I couldn't find it anywhere at that point) and for $9.99

)

Swiss Family Robinson
I think my first non-Disney DVD was Charade (cheap-but-still-good Madacy release, though I wanna get the Criterion one someday).

The Fantasia Anthology.
I bought this before I even had a DVD player! Along with Lady and the Tramp, Pinocchio, The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmatians.

X-Men was my first DVD.
This was the first good one released after my parents bought a computer with a DVD-ROM drive, so I picked it up in the grocery store. I think it was also the last grocery store DVD purchase I made.

I know it is really sad but I honestly cannot remember which dvd was the first one I purchased. I think I bought Fox and the Hound pretty early on.

The first DVD I ever got was Star Trek: Insurrection.
When I got my old PS2, I bought my first self-purchased DVD, the original single-disc version of Star Trek: First Contact.

I got Sister Act 2 and The Mummy Returns together at the same time with a Media Play gift card. If I remember correctly, Sister Act 2 was nearly $30... it's now available for $7.99.
