Well it's definitely my favourite of all of Pixar's films. I'd say it's light years ahead of the rest!

I love A Bug's life. For the life of me, I can't understand why people would be so harsh with this one. In my opinion, it's as good as Nemo. It's cute and funny and it actually makes me care for bugs!

Great characters, great plot, great humor (not a single fart! take that Shrek)...

Bug's Life is definitely better than Nemo and slicker than the average of many CGI movies.

There's nothing wrong with A Bug's Life :P

Everytime i see these "A Bug's Life is not in the same cathegory as the others" all that comes to mind is that it was Pixar's only Scope ratio film, that came out early in the DVD lifetime and most people watched it in smallish 4:3 TVs letterboxed into tininess or in it's recomposed and more visually boring Full screen 4:3 version and somehow compared that feeling they got with the one they got with the less wide (but therefore bigger image on TVs) impressions of the 1.78ish other movies and that presentation influenced their first or early impressions? Also maybe Flick's light blue coloring might not been visully exciting especially on TV displays that dont show blue as colorful as they should and comes out as a weak pastel :P (maybe if he had some violet or darker highlights or "skin" detail patterns...) (NO Steve, don't do a Lucasian/IMAX Disney and rerender it with extra added detail and colorful patterns now :P)

but i could be wrong.

The bird and the grasshopers and lots of other stuff are to die for :P . Specially on a huge screen. Remmember UDies, the A Bug's Life image was designed to be seen in a screen nearly 40% larger than the Finding Nemo or the others, for example. Just like The Incredibles.

Oh and i still think is has one of the greatest Jobs/Apple/Pixar vs the World scenes ;)

Think Different

I find it extremely hard to rank the Pixar films. They are all of such a superb quality. I usually start these things by identifying the one that is the worst, but they all have such strong points that I can't even start. Six superb movies.

Previously discussed here during the release of Finding Nemo to theaters (and thus the re-release of the CE version of A Bug's Life on DVD):

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=95

I think the issues are still relivant, sadly.

Though the one bright spot of this is that the new "Pixaren't" cheapquel studio at Disney will probably sequelize all the other Pixar properties before going back to ABL, which means it will be a while yet till we see it get screwed up. Or (I pray, though I don't think it's very likely) just leave it be if they think it's not popular enough to get one. A recent expansion printed somewhere else of that Orlando Sentenial article talked about over 40 writers having pitched sequel ideas for Monsters and Nemo, in addition to a junked idea for TS3 being under consideration for TS4, but it didn't say anything about ABL2.

I believe this was the first Pixar film with outtakes during the credits. The outtakes are way, way funnier than those in TS2 and Monsters Inc (those were particularly lame, especially with Ross showing up everywhere - not funny) The Bug's Life outtakes still make me lough out loud - "do I... look stupid.. to you? - YES!!"

Its not there is anything wrong with a Bug's Life its a cute lil moive its not my favorite of the pixar films, but it does seem like one of the weakest of the Pixar filmas I cant quite put my finger on it. I think its because around the time it came out didnt Antz frm Dream Works comes out an itwas more popular than a Bug's life? I am not really sure I could be wrong but thats just what I am thinking.

Funny thing that just happened to me with my order of the Collector's Edition of this movie with deepdiscountdvd.com:

1)When I first ordered it was $15

2) I just checked my order and they charged me $13 for it

3) I searched for it to check the real price and found now it's been sold for $23

WEIRD!!!! 8)

PS

And I'm not even sure if it's the first release

I dont really think theres anything wrong with A Bugs Life, but its not my favourite out of the Pixar films but its still an amazing film with great animation, story and characters.
I brought the re-release of the collectors edition R1 because it was only £13.99 which was cheaper than prices i found for it over in the UK. Although now the UK have it for £9.99 grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

I still havent watched any of the bonus features on it yet though, actually that reminds me i'll watch them in abit! :D Also im going to take a look at what its like viewing the film in Fullscreen (evil) and see how much different it is from Widescreen. :P

I just watched the Bug's Life DVD this morning. It's a good film and I like the Seven Samurai feel to it. I would rank it the lowest of all the Pixar films I've seen. I still haven't seen Nemo & Toy Story 2 yet. I liked the other 3D ant movie from 1998 better than A Bugs Life. I like Antz because of the darker storyline and for the fact they showed ugly side of war.
