Great underrated fantasy animated adventure from Ralph Bakshi and Frank Farzetta set in the barbarian age where two kingdoms which one of fire and one of Ice are at war with each other no thanks to the evil Lord Neckron. His goons kidnap the beautiful and sexy Princess Teegra, for as a lone warrior named Larn and Darkwolf a Batman-esque barbarian avenger to help rescue her and battle Neckron and his demons.

It's a unique and dazzling animated movie with good animation and neat rotoscopic special effects that propels the movie, if you enjoy fantasy and animation especially "Conan", "Dark Crystal", "Willow", "Lord of the Rings", "Last Unicorn", "Secret of NIMH", and movies like that then see this movie! i remember watching this movie when i was 5 back in 1987 on video with my brothers, i thought it was cool.

I was watching in my AP Art class in High School, but never finished. It looks really realistic. How old is it? Do you think it'll ever be realesed on dvd? Is it on DVD?

You didn't have to edit your post, I didn't mind your reaction. So, do you recommend this dvd? How many times has it been re-issued for dvd? Which do you recommend( if re-issued various times? I hope you don't find my many questions annoying.

Thanks for the info. Do you own this release? I can't believe it's PG, I remember it being somewhat violent.

I will highly recommend this DVD. "Fire and Ice" is one very good movie. And the special edition that came out really has some great extras.

Another of the Ralph Bakshi films that people have forgotten about is 1981's "American Pop", it is another film that I highly recommend.

These two movies belong in the collections of anyone who likes good animation.

Not yet. TBH, I can't even remember what it's about, it's been quite a long time since I've seen it. It stares at me every time I go to a DVD place, and I always pass on it for other titles.

Just read a reviewers comments on the transfer. According to the reviewer the film is plague with some edge-enhancement. What a shame.

I didn't notice any. I think that the transfer is quite stunning, myself.

I LOVE American Pop (still need to upgrade form VHS), but have never seen Fire and Ice. I've been aware of it for a LONG time, but I know absolutely nothing about it.

The realistic look is due to the heavy use of rotoscoping. Bakshi was fond of that. He made some really interesting movies back in the day. He's working on another one now, check out his site:
