I think it is an absolutely wonderful movie! incredibly underrated, although a bit more adult than some others no songs or cartoony comic characters. It has it's funny moments but not as much as others.
I'll second that remark! A truely unique Disney feature! If you're a fan of action, adventure or sci-fi (edit: none of which I am, btw  )you'll definitely approve of this one!

i agree with a lot of these predictions, it just makes sence that disney would give some special editions out as anniversary editions, like pocahontas will be. here's a list of all the anniversarys of films that i could invision disney making special editions to.

2006
Hunchback of Nortre Dame: 10th Anniversary
Dumbo: 65th Anniversary
Fox and the Hound: 25th Anniversary
The Great Mouse Detective: 20th Anniversary

2007
Hercules: 10th Anniversary
The Rescuers: 20th Anniversary
Winnie the Pooh: 30th Anniversary

2008
Oliver & Company: 20th Anniversary

We have to remember that a Tarzan SE should be happening sometime soon also! could it be possible that disney will only release one anniversary edition and then a regular SE a year? That would leave a lot more options and then anniversary editions wouldn't seem to repititious. I would imagine that they would choose the most successful Anniversay movie of that year!

on a side not i could also see these movies as joint sets(like aladdin 2&3)

Make Mine Music & Melody Time
Saludos Amigos & The Three Caballeros
The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad & The Reluctant Dragon

i would love to see The Reluctant Dragon on dvd, i used to watch it on video when i was a kid all the time!

Both movies celebrate their 30th anniversary. If I'm not mistaken both were released in 1977 ;)

I think Brother Bear is about as definative as we are going to get on this format; though the content could probably have gone on one disc if it were not for the dual ratios, I don't think Disney would want to throw another one out there so soon, especially considering the really huge sales it has had. Remember, it was their second best seller of last year, only coming in behind The Lion King 1 1/2. It is a very solid set, too, though I went through all of its content in about two days, so there's definately more they COULD include. I'm really annoyed that it didn't get a proper audio commentary (Rutt and Tuke's nonwithstanding) from the directors/producer, etc.

I really want to see 2-disc releases of:
The Sword In The Stone
The Fox And The Hound
The Black Cauldron
The Rescuers
The Rescuers Down Under
Hercules
The Emperor's New Groove
(rerelease in same style as new SEs)
Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs (see above brackets)
The Three Cabelleros
Saludos Amigos
The Adventures of Ichabod And Mr. Toad
Fun And Fancy Free
Make Mine Music
Melody Time
(All of the Anothology films UNCENSORED of course)
Robin Hood
The Great Mouse Detective

I have a hard time considering the Collector's Edtions in the "already released" group, partially because they didn't generate a huge sales. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is when I officially start counting. I know they ARE 2-Disc sets, but not many people got them. They really weren't accessible to the general public to the pricey tags. Plus, it's specualted that Tarzan will be re-released as some time of Special Edition, with a slipcover! :D

Ever since I found out Pocahontas would be a 10th Anniversary Edition, I figured the same would go for Hercules and The Hunchback of Notra Dame. If you ask me, Disney is releasing too many of the contemporary classics. I say do some of the 80's. I haven't seen The Black Cauldron, but I could see myself buying it if it comes out as a 2-Disc Special Edition. I agree that The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh and Dumbo are also most likely to be re-released in a more definitive edition.

Now when I think about it, the might celebrate Treasure Planet's 5th anniversary in 2007 with a 2 disk re-release!

i'd like for disney to come out with a new collection instead of just labeling the 2-discs as SE. maybe something with a name like Magic Collection. Then this would be basically most of the movies that were Gold Collection, but made into a 2-disc format. in this collection i would have the following...

The Sword in the Stone
The Black Cauldron
The Rescuers Down Under
The Emperor's New Groove
Fun and Fancy Free
Robin Hood
The Great Mouse Detective
Atlantis
Treasure Planet
Brother Bear
Home on the Range
Fantasia 2000

if you go back to my older post i mention what i think should happen with the other disney movies that are not in the platinum editions.

Well, I don't think Brother Bear should be classed as a 2 disc release really. As the international releases have shown, it has very little content over a single disc release other than 2 aspect ratios for the film.

They could easily do a "better" Brother Bear 2 disc release.
In France, Brother Bear was rereleased as a "real" 2-Disc Set last December (after being released a so-called 3-Disc Exclusive Edition, which was bare bone with actually only the single disc that was released internationally).
In the new Collector's Edition, You had the same contents as the region 1's SE release, plus a exclusive-to-France Publicty section with trailers, and art/animation drawings.

Aren't you people forgeting about "Saludos Amigos" and "The Three Caballeros"? No, it's not because I love the movies (which I do), but it is because there was an Archive Edition laserdisc released sometime ago which had TONS of extras. So it would be easy for Disney to just port over that edition's bonus features to DVD. Both movies could easily fit on the first disc while all the bonus features reside on the second. The demand of an uncensored version of "Saludos Amigos" is also a good reason for re-releasing them, but this time with a full-blown restoration ("The Three Caballeros" really needs it!).
Jim Hill once stated that there were some rumors that Disney might ressurect the Archive Editions on DVD, and considering that "The Three Caballeros" (and "Saludos Amigos" to a certain degree) is popular among animation enthusiasts, this SA/3Caballeros combo might be a nice start.

Here is a list of all the bonus features on the Archive Edition of "Saludos Amigos/The Three Caballeros", courtesy of our friend Deathie Mouse :)

Now, that would make a heck of a DVD, wouldn't it?

I think all Disney classics are going to get re-released as special editions eventually, but that doesn't mean all of them are going to be 2-disc sets. The ones I believe have the most chances of getting the 2-disc treatment are: "Dumbo" (this one is almost confirmed), "Saludos Amigos" and "The Three Caballeros", "The Sword In The Stone", "The Fox and The Hound" (being the first film of the new Disney generation of artists), "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (another LD port), "Hercules" and maybe "Treasure Planet" and "Home on the Range" (both had material produced to fill in 2 discs, but were paired down to 1 disc).

I think that Dumbo, Hercules and The Hunchback of Notre Dame are the most likely candidates for 2 Disc sets and as people have elaborated on that, I won't go too deep into discussing those, so I'll post other possibilities.

I know that The Rescuers is not exactly a huge title, but I think that a 2 Disc Set may be coming for that. In my Region 1 Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland DVDs, there were promotions to do with the current release, so Disney could be trying to rid shelves of that DVD to introduce a Special Edition. I heard that the old Alice disc was used heavily in promotions (eg Buy 3 get 1 Free offers) before the Masterpiece Edition came out, so I'm sure that The Rescuers may be coming. The same applies to Robin Hood, as I've just checked and noticed that it's featured in many promotions, too.

The Aristocats is something that is probably going to get a 2 Disc Set, too. If you go into the Disney Store, you'll see buckets of merchandise linked to that movie and it's inevitable that Disney will cash in on this franchise with a 2 Disc [Insert gooey noun or adjective here] Edition. Heck, I'm surprised that Disney hasn't released a 2 Disc DVD of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh!

As for live action films, I won't be shocked if Pete's Dragon and Bedknobs and Broomsticks surface on DVD again as 2 Discers. They're pretty much the only classic live action titles without a Special Edition left in the Disney canon, so it seems likely that they'll get special treatment for their upcoming anniversaries.

To tell the truth, I think that most animated Disney films will see light as a 2 Disc Special Edition, actually. And I can imagine the obscure anthologies padding out a treasure set. As others have mentioned, the 2 Disc DVD Market is a big one for Disney at the moment, as I think they know that Disney fans across the globe will buy a 2 Disc Set of one of their films, even if the extra footage was mainly fluff.

That makes sence. It's also very easy to promote. It has cute and fluffy characters and a sequel. Packeging this release with a 3rd disk (like Toy Story I+II, Fantasia / 2000) could make this title more worthy of a purchase!
