Nice review, Luke. I find myself agreeing that the beginning, meteor storm, and final battle are absolutely stunning, but the trek across the wasteland was pretty dull and mediocre. The "jerkosaurus" line in particular always makes me cringe. If it wasn't for Della Reese's character, I would probably skip that section of the movie entirely. I would hit mute during part of it, but the score and sound effects are too well done for that approach to work.

This is the weakest of the four two-disc collector's editions of 2000 in my mind. There is some great material here, but the dialogue should have been either suitable for the entire age spectrum (i.e., not geared primarily at young viewers) or left out entirely.

No, that's not true, they are still counted. Here in the UK the DVDs have the number printed on the DVD cover, and Home on the Range has a 44 on it, so they must still be counting!

I owned the Dinosaur 2-disc set at one time. This was during a DVD-buying phase of mine where I was on a quest to own every theatrical Disney movie. Fortunately, I didn't get too far, or I would have made more purchases like this one. I ultimately ended up selling it back.

The DVD special features are exhaustive, and I guess I'd appreciate them more if the film were better. I remember the film as being exciting for the first ten minutes, until the characters starting talking. It was all downhill from there. After about one-third through the film was just really boring and kept dragging on. The characters are hard to pay attention to because they're just so static.

Looking at the stills in Luke's review was kinda interesting. I remember thinking that one bright spot in the film was the excellent animation, but now it just looks almost cheesy. I'm not sure what to think there.

Thanks for the kind feedback! It is a long review, indeed, but the fits of awe and longer-lasting frustration the film causes inspired me to write and I had trouble stopping! It is a really loaded set, and contains perhaps the finest use of Easter Eggs on DVD!

I'm glad people are reading it and all that writing wasn't in vain!

Most any film will make money over time. The disaster is on the creative/artistic level. I can't believe they ripped off every other dinosaur movie in the book, including LBT. And I can't believe the LBT people did not sue!

I have serious problems with this story. When I was growing up, we had like 3 different options for dinosaur toys (or figures): one was the Bag O'Dinos with the 1.5 inch multi-colored dinosaurs, the other was a larger set with 3 prehistoric creatures, these were metallic blue in color and about 5-6" in size. And lastly there were the battery operated tricerators (and another dino, maybe a T-rex, I don't remember).
Dinosaurs were cool, because they were scary, not CUTE! There were no "Barneys".
This story would have us believe that dinos appeal lies in their "safeness". That is just bull.

I finally got a copy of Dinosaur. I only paid $15.87cad. It wasn't all what I expected it to be. But still I liked it.

Dinosaur may not be the greatest movie but it's not the worst either. I'd say it was worth a watch

Dinosaur is probably the only animated Disney movie that ever really bored me (although there are lots of Disney movies I haven't seen). As much as I hate to praise non-Disney animated films, The Land Before Time was a way better dino movie.

I just read the review (well just the part dealing with the movie itself), and from what I remember about Dinosaur, you described it perfectly, Luke. I hovered my mouse over the pics, and the captions are pretty funny.

I saw it only once, didn't think it was that good... But that was a long time ago.
